Pepper! with Cheesehead Craig
Posted by SBG on Thursday, February 24th, 2005 at 10:19 pm
Yes, fans, it's the Friday installment of SBG! That can only mean two things. One, it's just ONE DAY from the new Saturday Feature. And Two, it's time for Pepper!
This week's edition has a new wrinkle. The first nine questions are predefined topics and a limit of 50 words. The last topic is a "WILD CARD". Each player gets 50 words on any topic. Let's see how that goes.
This week's guest might be best known to you as Shane from Greet Machine's next door neighbor, Cheesehead Craig. And true enough that's who he is. But, he's also started his own blog, Oracle of Cheese, where he professes his love for all things Wisconsin, including a certain small town football team just off the shores of a bay on Lake Michigan. Despite this handicap, he seems to be a somewhat reasonable fellow.
CC lives here in the great state of Minnesota, brought here by his wife, who apparently has been trying to knock some sense into him. After seven years here in the promised land, he still hasn't come to his senses. Rather, he continues to root for those foreigner teams to the East.
Seriously, Craig has been a great supporter of this site and SBG is happy to have him here for a game of Pepper! He did a very good job and definitely stayed true to his Wisconsin roots in his answers! Good work. Thanks Craig, for playing. And go over and check out his site! Also, Craig says he's looking for a softball team this summer in case you are looking for a player.
And now, let's play Pepper!
Topic # 1 -- Vikings Fans
CC: Been treated great by the majority of them. They have a bad rap of bandwagoners, but ownership has treated them very poorly. Need an outdoor stadium. One favor: quit blaming refs for every loss!
SBG: Gluttons for punishment. Im at a loss to explain it. Rational human beings would have long ago given up. Not Vikings fans. They keep on believing. SBG gets sucked in all the time. Start thinking hey, maybe. Then reality kicks in.
Topic # 2 -- Bud Selig, Brewers Owner
CC: Brought baseball back to Milwaukee. Ill always be grateful for that. Did a decent job as owner and worked hard to get Miller Park built (man I love that place). Problem was, when he became the Commish, he turned the Crew over to his daughter, who is an idiot.
SBG: Twelve consecutive losing seasons. Two playoff appearances in 35 years. (One in an expanded playoffs because of 1981 strike.) No playoff appearances since 1982. Fired his daughter, sort of. But, he got a stadium.
Topic # 3 -- Bud Selig, Commissioner
CC: Doing a good job. Interleague play is great. No work stoppage. (Ed. Note: Craig should be a lawyer. Bud was only "acting" commish during 1994 strike, not commissioner. But SBG will give points for the first resolution to a contract situation without a strike in over 30 years under Bud, the commissioner.) Trying to get the drugs under control, but thats tough. If he can get a hard cap and better revenue sharing, will be greatest Commish ever. We wont know how he really was until hes gone though.
SBG: Generally reviled, especially in Minnesota. Is a terrible liar, can't hide it at all. But, instituted interleague play and wild card playoffs, both good ideas. When SBG is watching Barry this summer, hell thank Bud. Make no mistake, he aint been great, but he's not that bad. A better commissioner than owner.
Topic # 4 -- U of W
CC: Greatest university there is, the only one I applied to. Ill always be a proud alum. Kick ass marching band, one of the better college football atmospheres. Whod thought Jump Around would be so much fun? Badger basketball has become a national powerhouse.
SBG: Both SBGs mentor and boss went to UW. Youll hear no bad words about UW here.
Topic # 5 -- Oracle of Cheese
CC: Dismayed by a complete lack of WI sports blogs out there, I chose to start one. I have other stuff on there such as Mr. Crankbutt, Grog, and the Fab Five. My first time ever doing this, and Im having a blast. This blog will change your life.
SBG: Craigs website. Promises to be a good Packer/Brewer site. Hes got a nice start. But, is Minnesota really a wasteland?
Topic # 6 -- Packers without Favre
CC: Will be a sad day when he leaves. Craig Nall will be the replacement IMO. He wont be Brett, but hes pretty good. I see the Packers going defense post-Favre. Not nearly in as big of trouble as people think. Very emotional topic.
SBG: The day is coming. One of these days, itll happen. St. Brett will retire. And the Packers will go back to the dark days. Remember how it was before Favre? Not pretty. Not pretty at all.
Topic # 7 -- Randy Moss
CC: Cant believe he got traded. Single biggest difference maker in the game. Potential to be the greatest WR of all time. Happy hes gone as I was tired of him burning the Packers on a regular basis.
SBG: On the other hand, that Brett-is-gone-type day is here for the Vikings. Drew says sarcastically T-Wolves should trade KG for Vlade Divac and a second round pick. Makes about as much sense.
Topic # 8 -- Greet Machine's Stadium Coverage
CC: The Don Quixote-like quest of my neighbor. I admire him tremendously for this however. Great passion for the topic and speaks quite intelligently. There is not a more knowledgeable person on the subject. Needs better graphics on his site.
SBG: If only I could concentrate on one topic like that. Id cure polio. Id send a man to the moon. Id figure out how to solve a Rubiks cube. Yes, all these things have been done, but not by me. Seriously, hes an expert on this topic.
Topic # 9 -- Minnesota Sports Scene
CC: Its great. All 4 major sports represented here and a major college, so no shortage of news. Metrodome horrible. Look forward to a Twins game or two with SBG, Shane, and any other Twins bloggers out there ($1 hot dog night of course).
SBG: Its all about the Twins. The Vikings shot themselves in the foot. The T-Wolves are wandering in wilderness. The Wild may never play again. The Gophs have not have much to cheer about in revenue generating sports. Its all about the Twins. Thats all right by SBG.
Topic # 10 -- Wild Card (Author's Choice)
CC: Alias and Lost are the best shows on TV. Tyra Banks is gorgeous. Ray was an outstanding movie, hope Jamie Foxx wins an award. Brewers will finish above .500 and will win the season series against the Twins again.
SBG: Imagine you could say anything you wanted to anyone in the world without repercussion. The only catch? You have 50 words to speak and then be forever mute. Complete sentences? No. Poetry? Maybe. Who would you talk to? What would you say? Would you fear using the 50th word?
All right! Thanks Craig! SBG will actually be sad to see number 4 go when the time comes (even if he starts to vomit when Madden talks about him). Craig's Wisconsin perspective is welcome any time here at SBG. Be sure to join SBG, CC, and Shane at a future Twins game (details to be announced on this page at a later date). Another successful game of Pepper!

Thanks for having me SBG! This truly was fun. Reading previous versions of Pepper! it seemed that 50 words was not going to be a problem. Wow, was I wrong. Can't wait to see what is posted tomorrow for the mystery topic.
Yes, nice work guys! And great idea to get together for a Twins game. That would be a blast.
And SBG, are you saying I should focus more on curing polio or cancer? Boy, if I could I would. But sadly, I am an idiot with a one track mind. If a Twins stadium was ever built in Minnesota I seriously don't know what I'd do with all my extra time.
Actually, I might have been overstating my own abilities. The Rubik's cube is probably the only thing on that list within my grasp.
Rubik's Cubes are pretty easy once you know the pattern. My friend taught me in under a week. Now I can't not do one. It like riding a bike once you figure out how.
Yo SBG -- Can I go along to the game? I have the time now and I don't eat much,(cheap keeper) but do like cold beer. Was at your sisters place and didn't get home until today. (Explains why I am one day behind)
Of course, Butch. You are always welcome.
