Random Thoughts

With Baker getting pushed back and Santana starting on Friday, I'm left a dilemma.  Do I run 360 degrees with only four pitchers, or do I include two Santana starts in one 360 Degrees report?  Oh, the difficulty of it all!  Well, I've decided to wait and include two Santana starts and keep 360 Degrees an every five game feature.

Lohse was pitching for his job on Wednesday and apparently, he kept his job.  For now.

Even though the Twins are playing a little better, winning six of their last ten games, they are still 8.5 games behind the ChiSox.  Let's see.  Is there anything they can do to reel them in a little?  How about beating them this weekend?  That would work.  One thing that has happened is that the Twins have reeled the Clevelanders in a little.

Even with that big 15-5 win over the Rangers, the Twins have scored 40 fewer runs than they have allowed.  Their expected record at this point is 13-21, meaning that the Twins are lucky.  Or is it good?  Because they are 6-2 in one run games, the best winning percentage in the American League.  You decide.

Two more people that I knew back in SBGville died young this week.  Joe "Mophead" B. was killed in a motorcycle accident at the age of 39, leaving behind a wife and three kids.  Jim H. died suddenly yesterday at 53.  I knew Mophead from when he was 5 years old or something.  I think my uncle Henk West hung that nickname on him, which he probably didn't hear for the last 20 years or so at least.  Jim H. was a good guy.  My Dad Butch drove him to school on the school bus and I taught his kid religion.  I was stunned to hear about his death.  Both Mophead and Jim came from really big families (Joe was one of 8 and Jim one of 12 kids) and I know so many people that are affected by the loss of these two young men.

Lucy and I celebrate our first wedding anniversary on Sunday.  It's been a very good year, the frustrating hair cuts/colors notwithstanding.  In the last year, we got married, moved, she changed jobs, I changed jobs, we added a cat, and a nephew.  We are going to Winona this weekend to celebrate Mother's Day with (Mr. &) Mrs. Van Pelt as well as our anniversary.

That's all for now.  A big weekend coming up for the Twins.

What happens to the Twins' Pythagorean if you throw out the three or four lopsided wins? (Of course, to balance you'd have to throw out the lopsided losses, eh?) Anyway, the run differential would be substantial without the 15-5 and a couple other games thrown in there.

Well, it seems to me that the Twins got beat 33-1 in a three game series a while back. So, throw that series out along with the three games in which the Twins won by scoring double digits and you have an expected record of voila! 13-21.

Congrats on a year of marital bliss!

Two Santana starts in the next 360 Degrees should skew the results to the positive side (I hope).
