Butch and Mrs. Butch Visit

Lucy and I were very excited to have my parents, Butch and Mrs. Butch, visit this weekend. This is the first time that they have visited us since we got married. We put a lot of work into our apartment and wanted them to see it. They really liked our apartment -- Lucy has done a very nice job decorating.

I mentioned a while back that Mike from the Banjo Brothers had given me a Guard Dog Watch. I mentioned that Butch and my brother, The Mayor would love my new watch. Mike graciously sent me a couple of watches for Butch and The Mayor. This weekend, I gave Butch his new Guard Dog Watch. Let's just say he was pretty excited. He really liked that watch. He mentioned right away that when he's driving his Harley-Davidson, he'll be using his new Guard Dog Watch. He can just flip the watch open on his leg and look down for a quick check of the time. He loved the big face on it. Butch is semi-retired, but he still does some welding about 15 hours a week for a local entrepreneur. He can't wear a wrist watch because he'd get seriously burned if he ever got a spark on it, but he'll have his new watch on when he's striking an arc. Plus, he's wearing it on his belt right now. Butch was really excited about his new watch. He said he'd keep both and not give the Mayor one. I'll make sure that the Mayor gets one, too, though. Thanks a lot Mike. You've got a great product there.

It was a lot of fun going to the game with my parents. I have mentioned before that my lovely mother, Mrs. Butch, does not read this page. She proved it in spades today when she asked on the way to the game if I knew any of the current Twins players. I said, personally? She said, no just their names. Yes, mom, I write about them every single day. I think my mother loves me, but I'm not sure. (Just kidding, of course.)

It was pretty hot day, and my parents were happy to go inside and get out of the weather. Butch said that he didn't see what was wrong with the Metrodome. He said that if they had "concession revenues, luxury box revenues, and two more women's bathrooms" this place would be just fine. I'm not inclined to agree, but I have to admit that the old man can turn a phrase when he wants to.

About halfway through, both Lucy and Mrs. Butch were napping. But, as the game got close, Mrs. Butch made some fairly astute comments, which indicated that she was actually paying attention. When the game was over, she said it was the most exciting Twins game she had seen. And Lucy called her mother to tell her that she was a good luck charm. A successful and entertaining outing.

I have to mention, too, that when the Twins played the Kirby Puckett remembrance during the seventh inning stretch, I teared up. I couldn't believe that it got to me, but it did.

Can you mention to Mike that your good buddy Moss would love your watch too??

  • I may have to get up to a game just to see that Puck remembrance.

(Oh, and how I'd love to get some Banjo Brother gear for our new bikes. Wink )

  • SBG

That's why I've added the links, fellas. Smile

  • Moss,

As a long-standing member of the SBG cabal - your frequent, and biting commentary as well as your friendship with the editor of this site has virtually guaranteed you a watch for testing. Kindly e-mail me your preferred delivery locale and I will make sure a Guarddog Watch finds its way there. As for Mr. Hess, he too will join the ranks of the banjo brotherhood as soon as he gets those bikes in the stable.

Wow! Moss is literally bowled over! (Note -- see Aaron's post from the other day re: "literally".) Moss really wasn't fishing for a handout. But Moss would love to be a tester and a walking advertisement for your product if you are serious! SBG will have to forward your email address to Moss or vice versa.

BTW, SBG can tell you that Moss is all bark and no bite. Anything posted here is purely for amusement and entertainment.

This is true. Moss is a heckuva good guy.

  • For the record, I'm also on dreamhost and am also under siege. The hosting was cheap, but I do get an awful lot of spam. SBG - if you would pass along my e-mail to Moss, I'll finish the deal.

I'd love to get some action shots of Butch on the Harley. I think that'd give us some "street cred." Let me know if he's up for it. I'll toss in a t-shirt for the modeling work.

  • SBG

I'll get some shots for you.

  • Thanks for getting in touch with me, Banjo/Mike. As I told you, I was completely kidding and certainly not looking for a handout. But I'm not gonna bite the hand, either.
