Now comes the weekly crapshoot. The Twins can be reasonably confident when they send the likes of Francisco Liriano, Brad Radke, or Johan Santana to the mound. But when it’s Carlos Silva, all bets are off. The Twins bullpen had to work hard on Saturday and Sunday, when the Twins starters Radke and Santana each had short starts. We might see more of Kyle Lohse on Monday night.

Meanwhile, the Twins get their second look at the rookie Rheinecker. They won their only game of the three game series with Texas prior to the all-star break against Rheinecker.

Season Series

The season series is tied three games each.

Put me down in the "Not a big fan of giving away Kyle Lohse for a 22-year old single-A pitcher" camp. I think we'll miss his mediocre performance out of the bullpen before year-end, and the prospect we got in return is pretty old for the level he's playing at. He's the same age as F-Bomb and Matt Garza, and he's still at low-A. I am Jack's complete lack of enthusiasm.

Oooo....good point. I did not realize this pitcher was a 22-year-old. I'm sure he'll be a solid middle reliever. Just not this year. :)

Just listen to Bert, it took a wicked hop.

I'm with you, SBG, that ball was flat-out misplayed by Blalock.

But at least the Dome scorer seems to be consistent with hit/errors at the hot corner. I mean, Blalock didn't turn it into a double or anything like my favorite former Twin did earlier in the year.

I have always liked Carlos Lee, even when he played for those dreadful, and easy-to-dislike White Sox teams. Saw him do a lot of interacting with the kids in the outfield during batting practice, joking around with them, using their gloves for fielding, and other goofy stuff like that.

Just one reason why he was #1 on the trade deadline wishlist for me.

Just popping in here quickly to say hi and bye... I'd stay longer but I'm actually on the way out the door and with the Vikings leading the Cowboys by two touchdowns, victory looks secure.

By the way, anyone who thinks Lohse will be missed is koo-koo for Cocoa Puffs... Guerrier can bring that same stuff, only much better. Kyle will not be missed, folks... addition by subtraction.

Finally, given the trajetory of each's batting average, how much longer until Morneau overtakes Mauer as the Twins' leading hitter? ;-)

When he was with the White Sox, I remember he often had trouble with the flyballs in the Metrodome, which is one reason I didn't think the Twins were ever really serious about getting him.

Hey, did Torii just take Lohse's roster spot today? I'm a little surprised that Rabe wasn't punished for his throwing lapses yesterday, but maybe the Lohse trade spared him a demotion?

The Twins don't tend to be a team that uses 12 pitchers, and someone had to realize that Eyre had something like 4.2 IP in July going into today. A backup catcher could throw the innings he was put into.

Kyle Lohse will not be on the short list of Terry Ryan’s greatest achievements. Lost in arbitration twice and ended up trading him for a 22-year old low A prospect.

I expected more from you, SBG. Seriously, did Lohse go on a kitten-killing rampage in Minnesota or what? I do not understand the vitriol aimed towards this man. Anyway, for what it's worth, Lohse was paid a grand total of $4.78M for the 4.5+ years of service he gave the Twins. In 908.3 IP, he was worth 19.9 WARP3. For that money, and that kind of durability in the back end of the rotation, that's pretty good. Certainly a lot better than the way you make it sound.

That was aimed at Terry Ryan, not Lohse. I wrote last winter that Ryan should split the difference on the Lohse deal and that Lohse had him dead to rights on his arbitration case. That was bad work by Ryan to lose that case. Lohse also had value last winter and could have been turned into something more than what he ended up fetching.

I don't really have any animosity towards Lohse. I defended him last year in his run-in with ScruFi. What I'm saying is that Ryan got beat in arbitration twice and held off on trading him until he had almost no value. Is that good management? No.
