Now comes the weekly crapshoot. The Twins can be reasonably confident when they send the likes of Francisco Liriano, Brad Radke, or Johan Santana to the mound. But when it’s Carlos Silva, all bets are off. The Twins bullpen had to work hard on Saturday and Sunday, when the Twins starters Radke and Santana each had short starts. We might see more of Kyle Lohse on Monday night.
Meanwhile, the Twins get their second look at the rookie Rheinecker. They won their only game of the three game series with Texas prior to the all-star break against Rheinecker.
Season Series
The season series is tied three games each.

Kyle who?
Put me down in the "Not a big fan of giving away Kyle Lohse for a 22-year old single-A pitcher" camp. I think we'll miss his mediocre performance out of the bullpen before year-end, and the prospect we got in return is pretty old for the level he's playing at. He's the same age as F-Bomb and Matt Garza, and he's still at low-A. I am Jack's complete lack of enthusiasm.
By the way, that Texas pitcher reminds me of somebody . . . I just can't figure out who.
Oooo....good point. I did not realize this pitcher was a 22-year-old. I'm sure he'll be a solid middle reliever. Just not this year.
Obviously, this was written last night and scheduled to be posted this afternoon.
Substitute "Groundskeeper Willie" for Kyle Lohse? D'oh!
Gardenhire to the hospital tonight. Wasn't feeling well today.
hes probably having anxiety about silva facing the rangers.
Silva looks good in first. The manager is reviving, no doubt.
Carlos Lee Isn't Very Good
Holy shit. It's the eighth inning from yesterday all over again.
Texas leaguers for Texans.
Carlos Lee Really Isn't Very Good
Bad news, Cuddyer caught off third. Good news: he stays in it until Morneau and Hunter advance.
The Bizarro Dome...
good to see the time off didnt effect torii at all.
Did Lee play here as a Brewer? Or was he a DH?
Yeah, baby.
Rabe can't throw the ball from left field, but he can hit it into the seats! What a blast that was!
I was _just_ going to say, "Why don't they DH million-dollar-man Redmond?"
Wow!
If Renyt hits a home run, just call the game.
lee definitely played out there when he was a white sox
So do we take Silva out now? Playing with matches...
What is with AAA players coming up to the Twins and kicking ass? Its crazy. Go Twins.
Hide Rabe's glove! Good to see him get a big hit after his atrocious day in the field yesterday.
I thought Tyner beat that one out.
You know, after that inning, maybe the picture above is accurate.
What is with AAA players coming up to the Twins and kicking ass?
I was just thinking about that and recalled the last preseason game when the AAA team kicked the crap out of the Twins. Why? Because they were better.
Wow, an honest-to-God ground ball-filled inning from Silva.
Silva with another nice inning in the second.
Evil-neighbor-pre-game-show-Ryan mused about Lohse movin on. "It's really the best thing for Kyle..."
I got to thinking, it's really not about one team winning everything - MLB is one big family.
Kyle Lohse will not be on the short list of Terry Ryan's greatest achievements. Lost in arbitration twice and ended up trading him for a 22-year old low A prospect.
The Rangers look absolutely atrocious in the field tonight.
Excuse me, but how is that not an error at third on Cuddyer's ball?
Your dink hit Parade.
What's the over-under on the number of pitches Hunter sees? 2?
Just listen to Bert, it took a wicked hop.
I'm with you, SBG, that ball was flat-out misplayed by Blalock.
But at least the Dome scorer seems to be consistent with hit/errors at the hot corner. I mean, Blalock didn't turn it into a double or anything like my favorite former Twin did earlier in the year.
Brian, Torii had the under.
All this leadership talk by Dick & Bert is making me sick.
Face of the Franchise. You can't teach leadership.
How come MLB Gameday has pictures of these rookies, but not ESPN Gamecast??
that's what Rabe gets for hitting it in the air.
Anyone else think Terry Ryan sounds frustrated?
Hey, SBG! Love the RSS feeds on the left side. But don't you think the excerpts are running a little long in spots? Any way to shorten them up? It would make the page flow nicer.
I'm just saying. Your work is never done.
I am working a huge RSS data base. I finally found something that might work. I don't intend to leave them where they are. That was just an experiment.
From the MLB Gameday pitch box, looks like Silva is doing a good job of keeping his pitches down in the zone tonight. How's he look on TV?
During the games I spend a lot of time working on other stuff on the site. I finally found a good aggregator, but it's not working the way that I would hope. Once I figure it out, it will be a nice feature here at SBG.
Terry Ryan very complimentary of Krivskey. Hee hee!
Darn, wish Young could have extended the inning so we could hear more from Terry Ryan.
careful, Whiffers! 2nd time through the order for Silva. Danger, Will Robinson!
How about Mathews running over to take that ball away from Carlos Lee?
LOL! Lee gets another ball hit to him and the crowd lets out a roar. When he catches it, he holds his glove in the air! Great stuff.
I have always liked Carlos Lee, even when he played for those dreadful, and easy-to-dislike White Sox teams. Saw him do a lot of interacting with the kids in the outfield during batting practice, joking around with them, using their gloves for fielding, and other goofy stuff like that.
Just one reason why he was #1 on the trade deadline wishlist for me.
Is it just me, or are Silva's pitches starting to come up just a tad? I'm beginning to get nervous, even with a big lead.
We haven't seen Punto dive into first for a long time.
Pan to Scrufi.
Sitting in his rec room, hoping the flu medication he took two hours ago doesn't disagree with the Tequila-poppers w/ Stroh's chaser, he flips thru th' channels:
"Lessee. Asia Market Watch. Ugh. Startrek-TNG. God I hate when Deanna's mom shows up. Hee Haw. Y'now, Grandpa Jones is quite the banjo player..."
8-0 is enough lead for me not to worry.
Y’now, Grandpa Jones is quite the banjo player…
And that Minnie Pearl is a hoot!
Can Justin Morneau win the batting title?????
Forget that: 8th in BA, 4th in HR, and 2 in RBI.
Welcome back, face of the franchise.
INconCEIVABLE. A 7-pitch AB for FOTF!
Do you realize that the Twins have yet to give up a K in this game?
Until now.
I'm psychic.
You are always just one beat off, BrianS! Of course, Rabe reached on his strikeout.
Groundskeeper Willie might get a chance to pick up his glove again by the end of this game.
(giggles). Rangers suck.
apologies to any Rangers fan who might be tuning in.
What about an MVP?
gotta go perform parentage. here's hoping that I'm not the Jackal's lucky charm.
It is very nice to see Bartlett getting a lot of fielding practice out there today instead of the outfielders (or the fans) for a change.
Well, it'd be nice to see Silva go seven or eight innings.
Dick: Can you believe that the Tigers sent Chris Shelton down. Blah, blah, blah, clubhouse chemistry, blah, blah, blah.
Bert: Jim Leyland is there to win ball games not make friends.
All the little guy does it get hit after hit. Un-frickin-believable.
Just popping in here quickly to say hi and bye... I'd stay longer but I'm actually on the way out the door and with the Vikings leading the Cowboys by two touchdowns, victory looks secure.
By the way, anyone who thinks Lohse will be missed is koo-koo for Cocoa Puffs... Guerrier can bring that same stuff, only much better. Kyle will not be missed, folks... addition by subtraction.
Finally, given the trajetory of each's batting average, how much longer until Morneau overtakes Mauer as the Twins' leading hitter?
It's a mixed up muddled up shook up world except for Lohse.
L-0-H-S-E Loh-sheh.
Nanna nah nah, nah nah, nah!!
It's a Groundskeeper Willie sighting!
The president of the Terry Tiffee fand club very happy to see the Tiff-meister off the bench.
All the little guy does it get hit after hit. Un-frickin-believable.
Little Nicky is just under 50 PA's away from the leaderboard.
Little Nicky is just under 50 PA’s away from the leaderboard.
He could get there by the end of the season.
Wow! Happiness is returning from daughter's swim meet to find the Twins up 15-1!! If I'd have told you that after this game the Twins would be only a couple runs back of the Rangers' season Runs Scored, would you believe it??
btw, SBG, time to start an All-Time Twins triples list
Nelson Cruz apparently is a Tony Batista fan--he's continuing the back pocket out tradition.
And with authority.
So, with the HR that Groundskeeper Willie gave up, is it now a Save situation?
Nelson Cruz does some yard work on Groundskeeper Willie.

Hurry up and get Nathan warming!
When he was with the White Sox, I remember he often had trouble with the flyballs in the Metrodome, which is one reason I didn't think the Twins were ever really serious about getting him.
Hey, did Torii just take Lohse's roster spot today? I'm a little surprised that Rabe wasn't punished for his throwing lapses yesterday, but maybe the Lohse trade spared him a demotion?

The Twins don't tend to be a team that uses 12 pitchers, and someone had to realize that Eyre had something like 4.2 IP in July going into today. A backup catcher could throw the innings he was put into.
Kyle Lohse will not be on the short list of Terry Ryan’s greatest achievements. Lost in arbitration twice and ended up trading him for a 22-year old low A prospect.
I expected more from you, SBG. Seriously, did Lohse go on a kitten-killing rampage in Minnesota or what? I do not understand the vitriol aimed towards this man. Anyway, for what it's worth, Lohse was paid a grand total of $4.78M for the 4.5+ years of service he gave the Twins. In 908.3 IP, he was worth 19.9 WARP3. For that money, and that kind of durability in the back end of the rotation, that's pretty good. Certainly a lot better than the way you make it sound.

That was aimed at Terry Ryan, not Lohse. I wrote last winter that Ryan should split the difference on the Lohse deal and that Lohse had him dead to rights on his arbitration case. That was bad work by Ryan to lose that case. Lohse also had value last winter and could have been turned into something more than what he ended up fetching.
I don't really have any animosity towards Lohse. I defended him last year in his run-in with ScruFi. What I'm saying is that Ryan got beat in arbitration twice and held off on trading him until he had almost no value. Is that good management? No.
kitten killing?
I won't tell Lucy about that comment, R_R.
