SBG Nation Provides Your Daily Source for Half-Baked Crap

Please Allow Me to Introduce Myself

Posted by BabySBG on Thursday, September 21st, 2006 at 7:27 pm

Thump-thump. Thump-thump. Thump-thump. Thump-thump.

My mother heard that sound this morning.

Thump-thump. Thump-thump. Thump-thump. Thump-thump.

The sound that will change everything for SBG. He’s been thinking a lot about the Twins this summer, but not as much as you might think. Because one thing has been on his mind more than anything else.

Thump-thump. Thump-thump. Thump-thump. Thump-thump.

SBG and Lucy are each 41 years old. They wanted me, but they were afraid I would never arrive. Now, they know I’ll be there.

Thump-thump. Thump-thump. Thump-thump. Thump-thump.

That’s the sound of my heart. Right now, I’m growing and changing and developing. I’ll be coming into the world right around the start of the 2007 season. Daddy claims I’ll be a Twins fan whether I’m a boy or a girl. I’m not telling him yet what I am, but I think he’s right.

Thump-thump. Thump-thump. Thump-thump. Thump-thump.

I made Daddy cry today. He wasn’t there and didn’t hear my heart beating. But just hearing Mommy tell him about it made him start to tear up.

Thump-thump. Thump-thump. Thump-thump. Thump-thump.

My name is Baby SBG. And I am going to change my Daddy’s life forever.

awesome news. I have number 2 on the way in January.

My 3 year old proudly wears his Twins cap down here in Cubs/Sox country much to the chagrin of the Sox fans. (I don't think the Cubs fans know who the Twins are).

Congrats SBG!

Can't figure out if using the opening line to "Sympathy for the Devil" is a good or bad thing at this point. "Get off of My Cloud" might have been my pick.

SBG
SBG replied on September 21st, 2006 at 9:15 pm

It's better than the opening line to Ruby Tuesday.

Maybe the Stones aren't the best band to announce Baby SBG to the world. May I suggest instead the Beach Boys "Be My Baby". (Yeah, I know Brian Wilson was probably singing to a girl--or more likely--a sack of cheeseburgers, a handful of valium, or maybe even his sandbox.) It's a lovely song that (sort of) fits this wonderful occasion. Congrats!

The night we met I knew I needed you so
And if I had the chance I'd never let you go
So won't you say you love me
I'll make you so proud of me
We'll make 'em turn their heads
Every place we go
So won't you please
(Be my be my baby) Be my little baby
(I want it only say) Say you'll be my darling
(Be my be my baby) Be my baby now
(I want it only say) Ooh, ohh, ohh, oh
I'll make you happy, baby
Just wait and see
For every kiss you give me
I'll give you three
Oh, since the day I saw you
I have been waiting for you
You know I will adore you
Till eternity
So won't you please
(Be my be my baby) Be my little baby
(I want it only say) Say you'll be my darling
(Be my be my baby) Be my baby now
(I want it only say) Ooh, ohh, ohh, ohh, oh
So come on and please
(Be my be my baby) Be my little baby

Lucy approved the article and the title, for what it's worth. But, yeah, quoting "Lucifer"? Oh well, I'm a Stones guy and you'd expect nothing less if you knew me.

Music geek corner:

The Beach Boys were covering that song (to express Brian Wilson's admiration for Phil Spector). It was originally recorded by the Ronettes, with Ronnie Spector on lead vocals.

To continue the music geek corner:

If anyone is a big Beach Boys fan like I am, be sure to check out the Pet Sounds 40th Anniversary podcast series on iTunes. It is very cool to hear Brian Wilson and the other living Beach Boys give their insight to an all-time great album.

frightwig replied on September 22nd, 2006 at 5:37 pm

Thanks for the tip, Whiffers. Has Mike Love finally admitted that Brian was onto something with that album?

E-6 replied on September 22nd, 2006 at 8:40 am

Love the Ronettes version. (Damn the internet for giving me false information...) How about "Don't Worry, Baby"?

Actually if Lucy signed off on the Stones, She's a Rainbow.
SBGY, you realize you'll be required to become Mother's Little Helper. (And I don't mean a pill.)

I neglected to mention earlier, the kid writes well. Just like his dad.

SBG
SBG replied on September 22nd, 2006 at 8:45 am

The kid deliberately starts sentences with the word "And". I wonder where s/he got that.

SBG
SBG replied on September 22nd, 2006 at 8:47 am

And was dreadfully sampled by Eddie Money.

SBG
SBG replied on September 22nd, 2006 at 8:48 am

Or maybe it was that Eddie got her to sing on "Take Me Home Tonight". I don't recall.

frightwig
frightwig replied on September 22nd, 2006 at 5:30 pm

I remember Ronnie being in the video, and I seem to recall seeing her join Eddie on the Letterman show. I assume she got into the studio to sing her line for him, but I'm not sure now.

Btw, when I got into the car this morning and flipped the radio to 92.5, what were they playing but the Stones song of the moment (and my favorite by the band). "Pleased to meet you, hope you guess my name...." No kidding. Must be something in the air.

Thanks to everyone for your good wishes. I can not begin to express how excited we both are. Lucy met me for lunch today and some of the women in the office were embarassing me by telling her how much I talked about the baby.
