Game 160: She-Cago White Sox at Minnesota Twins

Posted by SBG on Friday, September 29th, 2006 at 4:14 pm

Your best buddy SBG will be at the game. Prior to the game, I'll be meeting up with SBGer Geoff, who's in town from Utah for the game.

I wonder that the odds are that I'll see an A.J. bat flip. Heh.

Good news, if the Twins play the Yanks in the ALDS, then I'm definitely going to Game One. The only hang-up I have right now is how to get from DC to Frederick, MD to meet up with a Yankee fan offering me a ride, but I'm sure I'll overcome that.

You could take the MARC train.

WillYoung replied on September 29th, 2006 at 5:23 pm

Only runs in that direction during the afternoon and we're planning on leaving Frederick around 11a to get to the Stadium nice and early.

Wait a minute, can't a pirate just pillage himself the requisite transport? Is that not one of the prerogatives of piracy?

The name was the important thing for inspiring the necessary fear. You see, no one would surrender to the Dread Pirate Will.

I'm not above superstition. This sounds like a good development to me.

For my part, I'm saving my softball cap (currently on an 8-0 run in softball) in case the Twins face an elimination game. Then the cap comes out.

From Page 2's David Schoenfield.

Who would you rather have on the mound, Mariano Rivera or Joe Nathan?
Nathan has been baseball's best closer this year: 7-0, 36 for 38 in saves, a lights-out .157 opponents' batting average and 93 K's in 67 innings. Rivera still is great, but he's not as dominant as Nathan, plus he's got a sore elbow.

Nathan is the reason the Twins will beat the Yankees (my man Joe Mauer beats Rivera with a ninth-inning double in Game 4), win the American League and then beat the Astros in the World Series (my man Joe Mauer goes 3-for-4 with a home run off Clemens in Game 7, as Santana outduels the Rocket for eight innings, Nathan fans Berkman to end it, and the Twins win 1-0).

It's great to see Twitchy McXanax get some well-deserved props.

At least Boof did what he could to make that a solo HR by Dye.

miltonj replied on September 29th, 2006 at 7:18 pm

The Tyner DH thing has always been ridiculous. I just hope Gardy doesn't continue this asinine trend into the playoffs. You can't seriously start Jason Tyner at DH against the Yanks.

I put that HR almost all on Dye. The pitch was breaking down in the zone and it didn't look hanging at all to me. Nice piece of hitting by Dye.

This is getting pretty sad. I realize Garcia had two great games this year, but take away those starts and he has an ERA around 5, has given up 32 homers, and minus those innings, has given up 221 hits in 194 innings. We should be beating him around.

Perkins is looking pretty nasty. A few strikeouts, getting out lefties. The Twins should dump Silva and keep this guy on the postseason roster.

brianS

Put Perkins on the postseason roster already. Seriously. Now. I demand it.

One thing Gardy has shown a propensity for is putting a rookie callup on the postseason roster when he's been hot. I think Perkins might have a good shot.
