• From the If You Repeat it Often Enough, It Becomes the Truth Department: I heard the following on ESPN radio tonight (don't know who said it). Joe Mauer won the Gold Glove this year.

• BabySBG is halfway here. I'm telling you that she'll be a Twins fan. And a Daddy's girl.

• Marc Stein of ESPN wrote a column advocating a KG trade. It's that time of the year, I guess. I'm officially out of hope for the Wolves in the current incarnation. I would love to see KG end his career here, but that will happen sadly -- this team can't possibly compete in its current incarnation. But, any trade that involves KG must also involve at least one more of the bad contracts -- preferrably Marko Jaric -- for a decent player or an expiring contract. KG is still one of the great players in the league and he has to be worth taking on a bad contract to get him.

• Johan Santana received one first place vote. I'd like to know who voted for him as first place. Now, there's a guy who gets it.

What'll you have?

Congratulations on the future Baby SBG. The best part about having a baby is laying on the couch, baby sleeping on your chest, and watching the Twins game. There's really no wife in the world that will tell you to get off your lazy ass and mow the lawn with a baby sleeping on your chest. It's like a get-out-of-jail-free card!

Put aside the religious disputes for the moment about whether the MVP should go to the best player or the player who plays with the right teammates, gets enough opportunities to drive in game-winning RBI, drives in those game-winning RBI, does so at the end of the season. What I don't understand is how you can separate Mauer and Jeter that much. They had very similar rate-wise season, play up-the-middle positions, and the edge Jeter has in playing time, Mauer has in defensive value. Voting Jeter 2nd and Mauer 7th is completely inconsistent from where I sit.

And Frank Thomas ahead of Joe Mauer? Here's a guy who finished 26 runs behind Mauer in VORP and has zero defensive value. Even a guy like Manny Ramirez, who just kills his team when he's running around in the outfield, has more defensive value than Frank Thomas, if for no other reason than he allows the Red Sox to hit an even less valuable defender at DH. And Mauer's one of the best defenders at one of the most important defensive positions in the game! That doesn't count? To add to his zero defensive value, Thomas has negative baserunning value as quite possibly the worst baserunner in the league.

SBG, if this is the guy that gets it, the other ballots might make my head explode.

Ah hell, I thought he would get it. Actually, Mauer at seven notwithstanding, it's not that bad of a ballot. At least he didn't have AJ plugged in at # 10. :)

Th problem is that, with his high on-base average, Mauer clearly spent too much time clogging up the bases.

Is this the first post referencing that baby SBG is a girl? Am I wrong?

In any case, congrats on the forthcoming daughter. A pink Twins' jersey is soon to follow, I'm sure.

Good eye. I wanted to make sure the family didn't read that fact on the site. Yes, that was the first reference to BabySBG's gender here.

Congrats, then, SBG. I've got two younger sisters (one is 20, the other is 9) who I wouldn't trade for the resurrected Walter Johnson joining the Twins' rotation. I'm sure you feel the same way about your little one.

I'm just happy that the SBabyG is one or the other :-) I've got one of each. Both great in their own ways.

Don't get me wrong, boys are great, too. I've got three brothers in addition to the two sisters. Among other things, it's been fun to watch them all learn to love baseball.

Traveling back from "banjo-ville" in the state's arrowhead I listed to a fair amont of ESPN Radio on the way home from about 9:00pm on. The gold glove error was repeated ad nauseum for over two-hours along with faux outrage over the selection of Morneau over Jeter and, Morneau's own teammates Mauer and Santana. The embarrasing drivel coming out of Doug Gotleib's (sp?) mouth and his broadcast partner's mouth regarding the MVP award would have been enough for me to turn off the radio - except for the fact they had so little knowlege of the Twins it was amusing just to listen to the innacuracies. I realize these guys out of necessity necessity need to be a mile wide and an inch deep, but it was equally embarrassing that no one, at least when I was listing either, e-mailed or called in to call them on the carpet.
