2007 Game 39: Minnesota Twins at Cleveland

Posted by ubelmann on Wednesday, May 16th, 2007 at 5:10 pm

Carlos Silva vs. Captain Cheeseburger Sabathia

Is it a bad time to mention that Carlos Silva's xFIP is 4.79, and that he's currently sporting an unsustainable 5.9% HR/F and an unsustainable 82.4% LOB%?

Meanwhile, Sabathia's been pitching like an ace. 10.1 K/G against 1.7 BB/G? Yikes. He's a bit of a flyball pitcher, but it's not like that's been holding back Johan.

I'd feel a lot better about Silva's chances if this was an eating contest.

That would be a match-up for the ages.

Nice to see Heintz getting the start. Give Redmond a break against those tough lefties... wait, he his lefties better??? Can that be right? Heintz may very well have a platoon split as well, but it seems like an odd time to take Redmond out.

ubelmann
ubelmann replied on May 16th, 2007 at 6:25 pm

Redmond's right-handed. He's got fairly normal platoon splits.

But this certainly doesn't make a lot of sense for the night to break Heintz into the lineup. Gardy has been riding Naked BP pretty hard lately.

Diggity Dino replied on May 16th, 2007 at 6:32 pm

I know he does... just a tongue-in-cheek comment about Twins' hitters. My only thought is that Redmond's days off while a regular shouldn't coincide with facing a LHP.

Wow, the game is over already. The Twins aren't exactly making me sorry for missing these games to go play softball. (Still alive in the playoffs, not that anyone cares.)

The Twins are digging themselves quite a hole. Still lots of intradivision games left, but they've got a lot of work to do.

I'll have to catch DePaula's appearance on the replay. Kinda wanted to see him out there, but I'm glad to see that both of his ball-in-play outs were ground outs, so I don't look like too much of a liar saying he was a groundball pitcher. :)
