This seems like a profoundly bad idea. Some people like pro football because it showcases the best of the best - elite players at every position. Some people like college football because it showcases school spirit, unbridled enthusiasm, and athletes as-yet unjaded by the cold realities of sport as a business.
This new league Cuban is pushing would combine the sub-standard athletes of the college level with all the cynicism and self-promotion of professional football. Sounds like a winner to me.
I love taking in a ballgame watching the River City Rascals (O'Fallon, MO) for the relatively inexpensive cost and the baseball atmosphere. The independent leagues fill a niche, and can be convenient family entertainment, even in the same metro area as the Cardinals.
If Cuban is looking to do the same thing with football, MAYBE it could work. Does he think he can compete with Friday HS football night? Is he hoping for his games to be televised? And, is he really "competing" with the NFL? I don't think so. This just sounds like Arena Football, except outside.
Does nobody remember the XFL?
