Platoon Disadvantage…

Posted by ubelmann on Tuesday, July 31st, 2007 at 9:48 pm

Today against KC pitching (all left-handed):

12 PA, 11 AB, 1 H, 1 BB, 0 SO, 0 R, 0 RBI -- Twins' LHB
21 PA, 20 AB, 7 H, 1 BB, 1 SO, 5 R, 4 RBI -- Twins' RHB

Jason Kubel can't hit against left-handed hitters because platoon advantage matters, but then we cram all of our left-handed hitters into the top of the lineup? Pick a side.

Well, ubes, you pegged it earlier tonight. The bottom of the lineup was going to do the scoring.

Jason Tyner, your new all-purpose leadoff hitter.

If you are looking for logic from Gardy, you seek what cannot be found.

I can't say I blame him. I'm frustrated, and I'm just a fan. At this point in time, I see no good reason why Johan Santana should take a discount to stay in Minnesota.

Ye-ouch. The problem isn't the trade deadline deal, though. It's the ridiculous roster that they broke camp with. Joe C. writes this column, and yet he defended the decision to go to war with both Ponson and Ortiz.

Well, it's better for Christensen to change his position than it would be for him to stubbornly hold a flawed position.

Christensen is just reporting though - it's not really an opinion piece. I'd be skeptical that his opinion changed. It's the heat of the moment, but there's not much to like about Santana's opinion. And I wonder if by the "just happy to be here" line - that's how his pitching mates feel just because they've finally broken through.

The problem isn’t the trade deadline deal, though. It’s the ridiculous roster that they broke camp with.

I feel like regardless of the roster, or in addition to those problems, it seems like either injuries or performance issues require adjustments. And they just are not doing that well, either.

And in hindsight, the whole Koski thing fell apart over the length of contract due to how often he was injured and yet, they show all this patience with Rondell. A miniscule amount of offense to go with the pitching would have gone a long way.

I really thought this would be a year where they would make a bold move.
