Keeping up with the ex-Twins: I was gone a few days, so I don't know if someone already mentioned this, but the Dodgers acquired Chad Moeller from Cincinnati for Cash Considerations.
Cash Considerations? Never heard of him. But I'll bet he has a higher VORP than Nick Punto.
True. But so do you and I.
In high school we had to take some standardized pre-calc test junior year and it was one of those ones where it was worse to be wrong then not answer a question. Our teacher (who had this terrible habit of filling up the last few minutes of class by pulling out the guitar and singing like Neil Young) pointed out that even a dead monkey could score, say, 30 points on this test. He encouraged us to try to "beat the dead monkey" (which of course caused us endless amusement). Anyway, point being, my theory is that Punto just needs to try a little harder to beat the dead monkey.
It's foolproof.
Actually, rather than try harder, Punto needs to not answer a few questions. He is getting far too many wrong, and that is hurting the overall performance of the class.
That's the beauty of the dead monkey - it means many things to many people.
Neil, did you get the "if the question doesn't make sense, always pick A" memo? Sheenie says they throw out questions if over half the people get it wrong, so they told her to always pick A if she was clueless.
Will: two things. First, demolition derbies ROCK. Second, your server really, really sucks.
Scooter Rizutto is dead. From the article:
I never got to hear him do play-by-play, except for his bit in Paradise by the Dashboard Light. Now that is a classic play call.
Wow! RIP, Scooter. Looks like we HAVE to run the WW scorecard tonight.
Scary. That's all I can say. Stole WW from NBB.
I finally passed 'Anonymous' on the commenter totem pole, I feel like a real citizen of th' Nation now!
The White Sox are playing better lately. Will they pass us in the standings again? Will the Royals? What exactly is rock bottom for this team?
How many times have we scored three or fewer runs since the all-star break? The team can't get that much worse.... can it?
19 times (4-15).
It's hard to stomach just how bad the Twins have been since the A-S break, particularly given how bad the Tigers and Indians have been. Over each team's last 30 games, respectively, Detroit is 12-18, Cleveland is 13-17 and Minnesota, 13-17.
meanwhile, the Yanquis have gone 23-7.
According to baseball-reference, the Twins are 5-7 against Det; 4-8 against Cle; 2-5 against NYY; 1-2 against BOS; 3-6 against LAAAAAA; 3-1 against SEA. that's a cumulative 18-29 against the contenders (22-35 if you include Toronto).
could there be any clearer evidence that this team needs an offensive upgrade?
could there be any clearer evidence that this team needs an offensive upgrade?
The existence of Rondell White, Jason Tyner, Nick Punto, Luis Rodriguez, and Tommy Watkins on the current 25-man roster srikes me as the most clear evidence that the team needs an offensive upgrade.
Yikes. 20% of our roster is now dead weight. I hadn't realized it was that bad. Except, you know, every time I watch a game.
You forgot Ortiz, Rincon and Cali. That's 8 out of 25, for a grand total of 32%.
So I've been away awhile. Can anyone tell me, Who's Now?
Can't wait to see the new big bat in the lineup. I heard Minnesota made a huge blockbuster trade on 7/31. Something involving a FOTF, even!
Tommy Watkins, Hunter's buddy, was brought up from AAA. Just like trading for him!
I'm sure he's in Boston's sights even as we speak.
Ah, you slipped that Garnett reference right past me. Well, now, you and I no longer have much to talk about.
You won't be following KG's fortunes with the Celtics? Well, we both still have infant daughters as a common bond.
I was kidding! Of course, I'll be watching KG! You know that... how's the daughter doing? BabySBG rolled over for the first time yesterday at 3 1/2 months.
plus, E-6 and I are waiting on you to program September's playlist, FW!
Wow, she'll be fully mobile almost before you know it. Kate is crawling and can walk along the edges of furniture now. Get ready. "Your life is about to completely change" all over again.
At the same time, we're settling into a new home & city, so I'm kept very busy. We'll see how much I'm able to contribute around here this month and next.
BabySBG has been wonderful. She's been posting on her blog regularly, if you remember where it is at.
He's at it again: Rondelle White has a -6.6 VORP in just 51 PAs. Projected out over a full season (~600 PA), he'd be at -79.2. Stop. The. Insanity.
Keeping up with the ex-Twins: The Cubs have transferred Henry Blanco to the 60-day disabled list.
Boy, do the Twins miss him.
Miss him like a rash.
Can he play LF?
More proof that there is evil in the world. In my simulation of the 2007 universe, the Twins have a league-average offense, at least.
Any quick way to find BKAC's? Twas going to show NBBW E-6' gallery. Takes forever to follow links back...
E-6: NBBW liked your gallery. Just curious - are any of these for sale? She particularly like Flatiron, and Flatiron (at Dawn).
When's th' BKAC-meister Andrew going to post his own?
Yeah, he may also want to edit "BeenAroundAWhile Guy"s BKAC to "New Guy" since it's settled back at that nick again and on the map that way.
Also, I think SBG should map out the graphic so the names on the map link to their respective BKAC page. No, I kid, SBG!!
seriously. little flags like in Google Maps. Get 'er done, SBG!
No - I think that's a great idea, Rhu_Ru!. C'mon Stick - you love innovation.
Yeah, I don't know how to do that.
on the home page, under "Links to Popular Features" is this link
M. Gracias mi amigo!

We still dont need him
As did Morgan Ensberg.
