Best of luck with the house, SBG! May your neighbors be quiet and friendly (or have kids of matching ages).
btw, do we have a new goal for Punto's VORP, now that he's smashed the -20 barrier?
I'm going with a limbo dance -- how low can you go?
fyi, I edited this Cup 'o Coffee so as the date didn't repeat yesterday. You've got a lot on your mind today.
Be sure to get one of those 105% interest-only mortgages with the low introductory rate on the first five minutes. I hear those are really good.
If you want to see pictures of giant hail stones, go to mitchellrepublic.com and click on the photo gallery that says "Dante hail photos". Dante is a small town in South Dakota.
is this a case of (an upper circle of) hell freezing over??
Regarding the Rangers' day: even though they scored 39 runs over 18 innings, they also struck out 19 times.
That's 49 K in the 36 innings beginning Sunday in MN.
Also, What is up with Edwin Jackson of the Rays? He was awful for so long to begin this season (1-9, ERA of 7.23 at July 8).
Since then, he's had one bad start (3.1 IP, 6ER), one okay start (6IP, 4ER), and 5 great starts (6IP, 0-2ER each), and one CGSO. I only care about him because he was born in Neu-Ulm, Germany, while I'm from New Ulm, MN.
As I recall, Jackson was a big-time prospect in the Dodgers organization for several years - one of their "untouchables". But then he got traded to Tampa Bay and hasn't really done much since then. It's good to see that maybe he's finally turned the corner.
It seems like Jackson has been around for a long time, but he's only 23 years old. He may have simply learned how to pitch.
Tigers/Indians attempting to out-Twins each other. No score to the 9th. I guess I am hoping for a 25 inning game burning through the pen, followed by a Tigers win.
Isn't the big-league record 26 innings? Might as well go for it.
ESPN reports that the Cubs get OF Craig Monroe AND CASH from the Tigers for a PTBNL.
Some of you have probably heard this by now, but the Twins activated Brian Buscher and put Tommy Watkins on the disabled list. I still find it interesting that, in the late innings of yesterday's game, the radio announcers were discussing how there might be a convenient "injury" that allowed the Twins to make room for Buscher, and then on the postgame show Gardy announced that Watkins was hurt. There's no way to prove anything, of course.
Whats to stop the Twins from just sending Watkins down? Why would they need to fake an injury?
Fair point. It certainly could all just be a happy coincidence (not so happy for Watkins, of course).
It seems like Watkins was brought up in the first place partly because he's such a popular guy in the org. All you ever hear about him is how much everyone likes him and how much fun it is to have him in the clubhouse. Who knows, maybe he was DL'd so he could still hang out with the team. Or maybe it is a real injury, and the timing is just a coincidence. After all, if you wanted someone to fake an injury right now, why tap the guy hitting .357 and living the dream? Why not tell Punto or Elrod it's time for a break?
I have always wondered what would happen if a gal (or guy) says no to a marriage proposal at a baseball game over teh Jumbotron

SBG,
How did the house buying go? Any last minute panic?
Nope. Everything went as smooth as silk. We'll see how the moving goes, but we have a sane plan, so I'm expecting minimal catastrophe.
So, when are you moving? I'd be happy to come by and help.
Oh, darn, I'm busy that day. Sorry.
