I envision Moss doing a sort of Andy Rooney-type column (I mean from years ago, before Rooney apparently started having mental problems). He would just pick topics sort of at random and start giving us his "humble" opinions on them.
Yep. "Didja ever notice that..." "What ever happened to..."
Moss is the e.e.cummings of WGOM, marching to his own drummer.
I'll be able to join in to the 1st game of the doubleheader, but have to work a fundraiser tonight for HS band. Working food stand at sold-out Nickelback concert at the amphitheater. I'm gonna sleep well tonight...
I'm leaving at noon for St. Croix State Park, renting a cabin with the in-laws.
I'll miss five games (hopefully catch some on the radio).
Then, next week, I'm going to Chicago Wednesday night for work (seeing Dodgers at Cubs for fun), returning Thursday night, and Starting my "Big Actuarial Associateship Project." I have 96 hours to get this project done it. So, that takes me into Tuesday, when I'm seeing Animal Collective at First Ave in the PM.
My point? If you don't hear from me for a few weeks, It's not cos i've joined the circus.
*starts working on alternative rumors*
Whatever happened to the doubleheader? How come teams never play those anymore? In Moss' day, the slogan was "Let's play two!" Is it the p*ssy players who can't take it, or is it the greedy owners who want to play only night games?
I think the impetus came from the owners, but I'm sure the players don't mind.
Yesterday, my wife and I were in one of those dollar stores. Near the check-out counter there were a bunch of these ribbons that you're supposed to give little kids to build their self-esteem. They said things like "I'm a Star", "Great Kid!", and "I'm Special". I saw one that said, "I Try My Best." And I immediately thought of Nick Punto.
And even when they do play two, there are usually separate admissions.
In fact, the Twins scheduled a double header several years ago -- I attended both games (both were 10 inning affairs). The league frowned on that. They want 81 gates. That's the bottom line.
My all-time favorite "demotivator" poster is also apropos of Punto this year:

Had you seen the one on Will Young's page (and copied on AG.com today)??
that was quality. Will rocks.
*AMR seen lurking on Milan, Paris, London and NYC fashion strips*
Absolutely. http://www.despair.com has been a favorite of mine for a long time, and Will's use of it is classic.
I have 3 of their framed lithographs hanging in my office at work - Mediocrity, Motivation, and my all-time favorite - Potential.
In my humble abode, I have Procrastination in my workout room - how ironical; Underachievement in my bedroom - to start out each day in the proper frame of mind; Ambition in my living room, of course - right next to the Lazy-boy and plasma TV; and finally Pessimism in my office.
They need to make a screensaver with all those.
Moss should point out that Moss Jr. might be able to write an occasional feature within a couple years. He's starting KD this year but his baseball knowledge has grown exponentially this year. The other day he was breaking down players for the old man. He says, "Garrett Jones is not a good hitter. He's also not fast and he's not a good fielder."
Every time Punto is up, he says "Punto is not a very good hitter. Why is he on the team if he's not a good hitter, Dad?"
The inside dirt on the Bonser weight-loss program have been revealed by Gordo:
"Bonser scheduled to hurl for the Twins."
Bulimia it is!
I was at those game too!
nothing says 'funtimes' more than 13 hours at Metrodome!
Moss Jr. has asked a more insightful question than anyone in the Twin Cities media corps has all year.
Is he going to be hurling every day or will he be on a five day rotation?
binge and hurl, binge and hurl.
Cubs acquire Steve Trachsel from the O's
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2999417
I can't wait to taunt my cubby-fan friends!
The Cardinals acquire Russell Branyan from the Phillies for a player to be named later.
the O's got pitcher Rocky Cherry and infielder Scott Moore in return, should of mentioned that
Branyan is raking up the frequent flier miles this year!
Rick Ankiel hit a grand slam tonight
wow, I wonder how many votes he will get vote Comeback Player of the Year
Yes, but LENIII is the official beat writer of AG.com. so it's all good.
So is it cheap to pinch hit guys in the ninth inning of a no-hitter?
Mrs. Moss was wondering, too. Bell probably had it in mind all day anyway (that Sweeney would PH late in the game), since Sweeney had just been activated. Moss thinks it's OK.
A note on that gem by Baker: game score was a 93, good enough for 5th best pitched game in the AL this year.
Nickelback? Sir, my heart weeps for you and the horrors you've endured.
Were those the games against the A's with the dog show in the middle? I was a that doubleheader.
huh? Nickelback is one of the better concerts this summer, and one I actually could have sat through. Or are you talking about the horrors of 7 hrs in the back kitchen, dividing up pizzas, building cheeseburgers, and bussing chicken fingers and fries to the front window? I slept well (and long) last night.
I'm betting on Nickelback.
Yeah, it was like 85% the Nickelback. I've also done concessions at the Drake Relays, so I have some sympathy for you there too. But it was mostly the Nickelback.
A question I ask of potential friends is "Nickelback or Creed?" If the answer isn't a long pause followed by "Do I have to pick?" then we can't be friends.
In high school we went on a summer canoe trip down the Namekagon and St. Croix Rivers. We put in at Trego and got out around Danbury, I think. It was an awesome time.
No long pause. Nickelback (I don't think) does not suffer from a frontman with a huge "look at me" complex, so they get the easy nod. But it would be like asking someone, "Would you rather have a nickel, or a dime?"; the difference is only 5 cents. That said, I only know a couple Nickelback songs, which I enjoy, but they're still not my cup of tea.
If I said it was a Porcupine Tree concert (or Ozric Tentacles, or Djam Karet, or anyone else I currently enjoy listening to), it wouldn't even elicit a response, I'm sure.
I dunno if this made the rounds already, but Neshek reads the WGOM (Under August 25th post). I'm going to ask him to play BKAC.
Get him to correct the spelling of our site also, if you are asking.
'Nother nice outing underway by Bakedbeaneater Bucholtz against the O. 8-innings and although not Light Rail (3BBs), not bad.
Bucholtz has plenty of run support here. Be a pig. Don't be a hog.
Rookie Ellsbury 2RBI double. In th' zone.
Bucholtz retires Roberts for the 1st out of the 9th.
2-down as Crisp flies out. 8 2/3rds hitless.
Bucholtz K ends it (9 K's total). No hitter. Nice job pally.
Didja ever notice that they only say a pitcher "throws" a no-hitter but "pitches" a perfect game? Why is that?
How come no one ever "throws" a perfect game or "pitches" a no-hitter? Is it because a thrower can get a no-hitter but it takes a pitcher to pitch a perfect game??
Keeping up with the ex-Twins:
Cleveland has purchased the contract of Luis Rivas
The Dodgers have purchased the contract of Chad Moeller
Milwaukee has transferred Corey Koskie to the sixty-day disabled list.
Why wouldn't Koskie have been on the 60-day DL all season long??
And you can 'toss' a victory, and 'hand over' a win.
I think you can "hurl" a no-hitter too. No-hitters are frat boyish. Perfect games must be crafted.
If I said it was a Porcupine Tree concert (or Ozric Tentacles, or Djam Karet, or anyone else I currently enjoy listening to), it wouldn’t even elicit a response, I’m sure.
the only response it would elicit from me would be "Who?"
sigh. I'm soo old.
Nickelback is the Michael Bolton of rock music.
More Keeping up with the ex-Twins:
The Yankees have activated Doug Mientkiewicz from the sixty-day disabled list.
And you always "uncork" a wild pitch.
