BKAC News Update

1) The field is getting pretty thin for BKAC. After next week, I'm down to only 1 or 2 entrants. If you want to play, now is a better time than ever.

2) Neshek referenced the WGOM (albeit somewhat incorrectly) on his August 25th post. I'd like to get him to play BKAC. If anyone knows how to get in touch with him, let me know ASAP.

Any correspondence for BKAC should be directed to sbg-bkac [at] hotmail[dot]com

And I'd also like to thank everyone who has taken the time to participate thus far.

Rhubarb_Runner replied on September 2, 2007 at 1:02:04 pm

Same applies to the SBC Library -- get your book submitted to sbglibrary [at] hotmail [dot] com

We've had a couple good ones lately (thanks, Will)

brianS replied on September 2, 2007 at 3:23:37 pm

Andrew: ask Seth. He might know.

StatFreak101 replied on September 2, 2007 at 12:31:22 pm

7. Jones, 1B
8. Rodriguez, 3B
9. Punto, 2B

What a bottom third of the order for the Twins today.

StatFreak101 replied on September 2, 2007 at 12:34:34 pm

This segment on AM 1500 with Terry Ryan is an absolute joke...and a huge contradiction by Terry Ryan.

Andrew replied on September 2, 2007 at 12:38:33 pm

Is the game on FSN today? I don't want to have find pants and go all the way downstairs if it's not.

Kris replied on September 2, 2007 at 1:09:56 pm

I'm watching on WFTC.

Rhubarb_Runner replied on September 2, 2007 at 1:19:16 pm

Punto, the foul-ball ballhog

Kris replied on September 2, 2007 at 1:24:31 pm

Ugh. It's not a swing-and-a-miss and run.

Andrew replied on September 2, 2007 at 1:26:10 pm

On GameDay, it looked like that pitch was in a really good spot for Buck to throw from.

It's a good thing you were here, Rhu-Ru. I was going to do that 'til I realized I had no clue how the library was organized to find such items.

Andrew replied on September 2, 2007 at 1:36:27 pm

You know what? Someone should make a post at the end of the game log that is just a series of pictures, so people can just scroll to the end and have the entire story.

Rhubarb_Runner replied on September 2, 2007 at 1:49:57 pm

Ha! Gameday summary, for the illiterate. Just what brianS needs! (I kid!)

Actually, that would be fun. I think we need to accumulate/organize our graphics a little more for that, but that would be a fun project. Maybe for the offseason.

Andrew replied on September 2, 2007 at 2:17:42 pm

Ooh! We could recreate select games during the offseason using the collected pictures. I nominate Johan's 17 Ks and Baker's recent masterpiece for first dibs.

brianS replied on September 2, 2007 at 3:20:12 pm

Whaa?

I'll have you know that I can read several thousand words per minute (when presented in picture format)!!!

brianS replied on September 2, 2007 at 3:21:23 pm

We have that already: the "Twins win" and mushroom cloud graphics ;-)

brianS replied on September 2, 2007 at 3:22:10 pm

Organized????

Rhubarb_Runner replied on September 2, 2007 at 1:32:01 pm

Bonzer not fooling anyone this inning

Kris replied on September 2, 2007 at 1:34:57 pm

Royals out-piranhaing the Twins.

Rhubarb_Runner replied on September 2, 2007 at 1:42:30 pm

Boof taking Labor Day off a day early, it appears. I might get that nap in today yet.

Andrew replied on September 2, 2007 at 1:43:48 pm

Nothing like 5 ER in 1 2/3 innings to mes. up your ERA>

Kris replied on September 2, 2007 at 1:43:53 pm

Time to finish watching that movie we started last night...

brianS replied on September 2, 2007 at 3:17:52 pm

rather appropriately, I have Kicking and Screaming waiting in the wings.

Are we done with the Tyner as leadoff experiment yet again?

Rhubarb_Runner replied on September 2, 2007 at 2:10:22 pm

I'm guessing...no.

Rhubarb_Runner replied on September 2, 2007 at 2:09:36 pm

Nick Punto - Bunter of Dune?

brianS replied on September 2, 2007 at 3:13:15 pm

well, the li'l Herbert/Anderson books suck too, so, yea.

Rhubarb_Runner replied on September 2, 2007 at 2:14:40 pm

Man, Jim Joyce's strike calls are sure audible. When he calls it, he means it.

StatFreak101 replied on September 2, 2007 at 2:39:31 pm

Are they done with Luis Rodriguez yet too?

Rhubarb_Runner replied on September 2, 2007 at 2:43:35 pm

*tries...to...post...Cali graphic. Can't...overcome...apathy. slumps in a heap in front of Spider Solitaire*

Rhubarb_Runner replied on September 2, 2007 at 2:47:06 pm

Ha! Dazzle sticking up for Niekro with the file in the back pocket. Jack and Dazzle could extend this discussion for several innings and we wouldn't miss anything.

twayn replied on September 2, 2007 at 2:53:16 pm

Hey, what's with the white flag lineup today? I thought we were still in this thing.

Rhubarb_Runner replied on September 2, 2007 at 3:01:21 pm

We are?! *hustles outside to replace white flag with Twins banner*

brianS replied on September 2, 2007 at 3:11:59 pm

good lord. I think I need to go mow the lawn.

twayn replied on September 2, 2007 at 3:07:32 pm

I just played 18 holes after going to the State Fair yesterday. My legs are shot. And I was the Nick Punto of golf today. But the whole foursome played poorly. I kept score, but didn't even bother to tally the strokes at the end and nobody wanted to ask for their score.

Kris replied on September 2, 2007 at 3:08:56 pm

So, it's come to this.

I gave up on the game and finished watching Blades of Glory.

I'm pretty sure it was more entertaining than the innings I missed.

Nice job covering, Cali.

brianS replied on September 2, 2007 at 3:16:29 pm

Carmen's brain has already gone to Cali.

Rhubarb_Runner replied on September 2, 2007 at 3:17:09 pm

Carmen Cali wants to sit in the dugout the rest of the season, it appears. Too found of standing around on the mound and watching everyone else make the plays (not).

brianS replied on September 2, 2007 at 3:18:22 pm

What did Pat Neshek do to deserve pitching in this disaster?

Rhubarb_Runner replied on September 2, 2007 at 3:18:44 pm

Neshek?! It's a freakin' 6-0 ballgame! Give the guy some well-deserved rest, huh?!

NOW what is Gardy doing?!

Jeff A replied on September 2, 2007 at 3:25:09 pm

Somebody in the comments at AaronGleeman.com recently referred to the number of set-up guys Gardy has burned out since he became manager. I didn't check to see if the comment was really accurate, but it does seem like he's so intent on saving Nathan for save situations that he burns out his set-up guys. Maybe somebody who's less lazy than I am could take the time to see if this is really true.

Rhubarb_Runner replied on September 2, 2007 at 3:43:06 pm

somebody who’s less lazy than I am

That translates to "ubelmann"

Jeff A replied on September 3, 2007 at 10:37:08 am

How'd you guess?

ubelmann replied on September 2, 2007 at 4:44:45 pm

I don't think his usage of Nathan has been all that bad. I'd like to see him be more aggressive with Nathan every now and then, but for the most part, the Twins have had good set-up relief pitching, so using Nathan in the 9th hasn't been strategically such a bad option.

Overall, I would be surprised if Gardy has hurt arms in the bullpen at an alarming rate--actually, I would guess the opposite is true. I tend to think that many short appearances are more detrimental to arms than fewer longer (1+ IP) outings, and until Reyes arrived on the scene, Gardy didn't bother so much with the matchup nonsense.

Rhubarb_Runner replied on September 2, 2007 at 3:26:09 pm

Ha ha heh heh heh - sorry, so far the only good thing about this game so far is getting to catch up a little at The Dugout

brianS replied on September 2, 2007 at 3:27:04 pm

Is that a Bronx cheer for the Twins breaking the seal on the scoreboard?

brianS replied on September 2, 2007 at 3:27:39 pm

Gardy pinch-hits Buscher for Punto now?????

brianS replied on September 2, 2007 at 3:45:59 pm

Moss replied on September 2, 2007 at 4:13:16 pm

Moss was flipping channels during the game, and landed on Lifetime (showing a high-school movie) just in time to hear that Jason Bartlett memorial t-shirts would be available for sale.

Apparently it's some teen flick called "Girl, Positive".

Rest in peace, Jason Bartlett. Why God, why couldn't it have been Nick Punto??

Rhubarb_Runner replied on September 3, 2007 at 8:50:21 am

There is a "Jason" in that movie, but no record of his last name. I even scoured:

Jeff A replied on September 3, 2007 at 10:39:17 am

Unless Mrs. Moss was forcing you, you have no business watching Lifetime, ever. I don't care what the alternatives are.

Moss replied on September 3, 2007 at 12:43:07 pm

There wasn't any watching involved, pure flipping. Jennie Garth caught Moss' eye for a fraction of a second, and the line about Bartlett followed immediately.

RR, if you google -- jason bartlett girl positive -- you'll find it. Interesting that IMDB does not have the last name listed, tho.

Andrew replied on September 3, 2007 at 1:12:29 pm

They show "Still Standing" at 6 while every other station on the planet is showing "Everybody Loves Raymond". It's a funny show.

The cable provider here just re-did the lineup and some good and some bad came out of it. NFL and Big10 are now part of the normal cable with ESPN. But, now there is a Lifetime Movie Network, dedicated only to Lifetime original movies. I'm glad my sister is off to college or else that's all I'd ever get to see.

davidwatts replied on September 3, 2007 at 4:12:40 pm

thats pretty sweet. I still do not have either the NFL Network or the Big Ten Network
BUt my cable company added ESPN U to my sports package to go along with Fox College channels and College Sports TV, which means I have about 10 football games to choose from on Saturdays
