Cool! With all the myriad of discussion topics here at WGOM, it's about time we got into String Theory.

Well, this place does seem to vibrate in, like, 26 different dimensions at once.

Who said it:
Can I just spend the rest of my space bitching about Tony LaRussa? Nobody has ever spent so much time trying to cultivate the mystique of genius --nobody, ever. On paper, at least, the guy has always had the seeming credentials of a flake --vegetarian, dance aficionado, drunk driver-- but he has zero charisma, and he's a pompous jackass. Remember his brilliant strategy of batting the pitcher eighth? God, what a pain in the ass. Lock me in a room with LaRussa, Buck Showalter, and Tom Kelly and you'd have the makings of the most insufferable reality show of all time, as well as my personal nightmare version of "No Exit."

The Google is my friend.

Not too much breaking ground - but I loved the not-so-veiled shot at the beat writer(s) for not providing a little more insightful material and the bit about someone who was in the clubhouse during the Morneau/Hunter tussle.

The Z rocks, and always has.

Action on the Howard Porter story at last!
Unfortunately, it's really bad news, as if getting murdered wasn't bad enough for a man with considerable demons.

Some news in my business arena, and involving Minnesota...

Can we hire this guy to replace Top Jimmy? What a well-written story. It might be the best baseball writing I have read all year. Just be forewarned if you're in an office that you might get something in your eye (but it's definitely SFW).

Bravo!
(And I think I got something in both eyes.)

When I read this, I immediately thought of this bit of dialogue from Bang the Drum Slowly:
Bruce Pearson: "Everybody'd be nice to you if they knew you were dying."
Henry Wiggen: "Everybody knows everybody is dying; that's why people are as good as they are."
A poignant story, and well told.

I can't get the image of that little boy out of my head; I'm having trouble reading my monitor through the welling tears.
Thanks for the article, Will.

I took a short hiatus from all things baseball related while I got settled in at school for the new semester. Lo and behold, the Twins found even more ways to fail against Cleveland. Other than the Light Rail doing his impression of a freight train against KC, was there anything that I should feel bad about missing?

Well, there was a Nick Punto single....
