SBG Nation Provides Your Daily Source for Half-Baked Crap

WGOM Mail

Posted by SBG on Saturday, September 15th, 2007 at 8:14 am

Have you ever wanted to e-mail an SBG Nation Citizen just to chat about something, but didn't know their e-mail address? Well, I haven't because I have a list of email addresses that each of you gave to me when you registered to the site. But, I am loathe to hand those addresses out. What to do?

Well, here's an answer. Part of my domain package includes an e-mail client. That's right, I have an e-mail account sbg at stickandballguy dot com. Cool huh? Well, I am opening up the client for all citizens of the Nation. Here's what I'm thinking. Send me a message and I'll open an e-mail account for you using your screen name. So, for example, if you want to discuss beer with brianS, you would just e-mail him at brianS at stickandballguy dot com (assuming he plays along).

The client is web accessible and it's pretty easy to use. Plus, you can just port the email over to another account if you wish. I've tried it out with Andrew (Andrew at stickandballguy dot com) and it works just fine. If you want an account, let me know and I'll set you one up. I'll also put a link up for you to access the mail on the front page (and one the single post). Plus, I'll put up a mail directory up on a mail page.

Sign up (by leaving a comment here). It's free. Here's the WGOM Mail Login Page. After you sign up, I'll send you an e-mail at your registered e-mail account with a password (change that, please).

I set up my WGOM account so that anything sent to that account automatically forwards to my gmail account. Once you're set up with the an account here's what you do:

  1. Go to the Login Page
  2. Click on http://mailboxes.stickandballguy.com/ link under the login boxes.
  3. Use your login information here
  4. You are now in the "Mailbox Manager"
  5. Scroll down to "Keyword Filters" and click "Add New"
  6. Change drop down menu to say "when email to contains your SBG address
  7. Choose the radio button "Forward it to this address" and chose the address you normally check
  8. Now anyone can email yourname[at] SBG and it will automatically end up in your GMail, Hotmail, or any other account and you don't have to check your SBG inbox

Hold the phone on the auto forwarding. I just tested it and I'm getting bounce-backs. It did work at one point. I'm on it.

Count me in. I love getting email---it gives me an excuse not to work.

It occurs to me that I don't say thank you enough to SBG and all the other major contributors around here. You guys put in an awful lot of time and effort so that we hangers-on can have fun. It is appreciated.

I'm in. Now if I could figure out how to have it auto-forward to my yahoo address.... I wasn't cool enough to get a gmail account at the time. Now, whaddya gotta do, sleep with somebody?

Not at all. Just go to the site, click the "sign up" link, and proceed to sign up for a gmail account. I'm not sure exactly when they stopped requiring an invitation for an account, but they have.

I got a Gmail account a few weeks ago. All the variations of my name were snapped up long, long ago, so I had to ponder another way to identify myself. If you're ever looking for me, I'm ihatepunto at gmail dot com. Seriously.

I don't really want another email account. But you're more than welcome to link to my "real" email address. I don't really mind sharing it, so just add it to the mail directory.
