Game 159: Twins at Boston
Posted by ubelmann on Thursday, September 27th, 2007 at 5:05 pm
If I had to rank the four AL teams according to how much I don't like them, for whatever reason, I would rank them this way:
1. Red Sox
2. Angels
3. Yankees
4. Indians
I just can't stand the Red Sox anymore, and it would be great if the Twins could sweep the Red Sox while the Yankees win out. It's not going to happen, but it'd be great.
Some splits:
.237/.337/.295 -- Nick Punto, April-May
.166/.245/.223 -- Nick Punto, June-August
.311/.344/.393 -- Nick Punto, September
.289/.373/.450 -- Michael Cuddyer, April-July
.253/.329/.395 -- Michael Cuddyer, August-September
.353/.446/.480 -- Joe Mauer, April-May 4th
.271/.364/.395 -- Joe Mauer, June 8th-Aug 26th
.233/.292/.372 -- Joe Mauer, September
.131/.212/.231 (oppenents' averages), 1.49 ERA -- Pat Neshek, April-July 19th
.288/.368/.513 (oppenents' averages), 6.14 ERA -- Pat Neshek, July 21st-September 16th
[Note: On July 19th, Pat Neshek made his sixth appearance in seven days.]
.165/.230/.291 -- Rondell White
Clearly, what this team needed was more players playing hurt. Hike up those skirts, Sally boys!

need a scorecard tonight
J. Bartlett
J. Kubel
T. Hunter
J. Morneau dh
M. Cuddyer
G. Jones 1b
M. LeCroy c
B. Buscher
N. Punto
I really like that Jones is playing. I'm not a huge fan of his (I like the kid and all, though), but his playing time has been so limited, I'm really fond of seeing him play.
I kinda wish I had accepted and invitation to watch the game tonight, though, rather than sitting at home listening to John and Dan occasionally remember to tell me what's going on.
somebody offered you a ticket to Fenway???
I'd fly to Boston if that happens. Nyah, just to go over and watch the game on TV, as I don't have one.
GASP!
No Bones, no House, no Bionic Woman? No Heroes, no Smallville? No The War??? What kind of insane freak ARE you????!!!!!!
btw, I watched Bioinic Woman last night. I'm not afraid to say it.
What's up with these sci-fantasy series? New, secret, uber-technologies and surgical techniques that allow an accident victim to recover from a multiple amputation/prosthesis implant in a matter of hours? And, uh, these technologies are so super-secret that they haven't been commercialized? Puh-leeeeeeeeeeeeeeze. Doctor Lovestruck woulda had a fat wad of grant money and venture capitalists peeing all over themselves to fund his work. Where are the low-power prototypes? A civilian who has just been in a catastrophic accident and should be hospitalized himself can order around the staff of the super-secret lab and perform what surely had to be many hours of surgery within minutes of his accident?
of course, it won't stop me from watching. When does the good bionic chick get her hands on the Witchblade???
of course, Michelle Ryan appears to be selling a sluttier image. So she's got that going for her. Which is nice.
Lucky you. You aren't faced with the CSI or The Office premier conundrum.
Office
no doubt about it
Oh, for sure. But the GF wants to watch CSI. She's watching her show at her place, and I'm watching mine here. Then we'll meet up later to go out. We probably won't be able to have a TV in the bedroom in the future.
DVR is a wonderful thing my friend
DVR? I don't even have cable.
If Beckett wins the Cy Young, does he become honorary Vice President of Red Sox Nation?
I think the whole Red Sox Nation thing is why they have passed the Yankees as #1 on my most-disliked list.
Between the Sox and the Patriots, I'd be OK if England re-colonized that whole area.
As long as we retain control of the lobster and clam rights in the area.
At least the Sports Guy has managed to get through Thursday without writing a Red Sox/Patriots column...or maybe I've just been too busy at work.
The "woe is us" attitude of that region's fans is so freaking annoying.
he's probably cranking one up for ESPN THE Magazine as we speak.
I actually dont mind if the Red Sox win. I know they are Yankee-lite and they get WAY more press coverage than they deserve. But maybe I hate the Yankees so much more that tempers my Sox hatred
I'm just hoping for Angels and Indians ALDS victories. One of them MUST win or I will boycott the ALCS.
Yeah, another Red Sox-Yankees ALCS is one of my worst nightmares.
Twins Win!
Kubel!
Jeremy Beckett.
aww, cr@p.
Well, at least it wasn't with Cuddyer at the plate for the strike out/throw out DP.
Manny batting second?
Well, he's a table setter, you know. High OBA guy!
Didn't take Boof long to lose that lead.
quite an AB here
Bad throw by LeCroy, but the guy was definitely out.
Yep, replay showed Jones got his foot on the bag before the runner.
Dazz now launching into LeCroy as the problem here. Boof's still gotta make pitches.
Cuddy launches one!
CudDOINKER!
HAHAHA
nicely played
way to go Cuddyer!
Didn't Beckett long to lose the lead. How many more runs to this team before he's summarily dropped from the Cy Young ballotting?
That was "Didn't take Beckett long ..."
about 30?
I have to agree with Ubes here...
My hatred, or dislike if you want to keep it to a low tone, is much more for the Red Sox than it is for the Yankees...but I don't think I could list the Indians, or any other AL Central team as the team that I liked the most.
Honestly, I prefer the Angels out of all the four AL postseason teams in 2007...and it's mostly by default.
So let's play a game...
If the Twins were to trade one of their many pitching prospects, major league ready or not, who would YOU have them trade and what kind of return would you see the Twins getting on that respective pitcher(s)?
trade one of our lower tiered pitchers for a secondbase man!
no one would see that coming
That's "Twins baseball" right there according to DickBert.
Here comes the loss of focus by the Boof man.
lots of hits for the local 9 tonight
Seems like he coulda caught that with some more mojo.
Somebody's not on the right page. After Silva pitched the other night, Gardy went on and on about how LeCroy called such a good game. Tonight, all Dazzle can talk about is how, in effect, Bonser is having to try to succeed despite LeCroy's pitch-calling. Which is it?
I believe the answer is "when in doubt, the new guy must be responsible." In this case, LeCroy is kind of an old new guy, but my point remains. Team fails to hit in August? Must be Casilla's fault, since all we changed was going from Castillo to Casilla. Team struggling with Mauer behind the plate? Boy do we miss Henry Blanco.
If Philadelphia makes the playoffs, they're the team I'm going to root for, just for the sake of ex-Twin Charlie Manuel.
What hooks me into the Indians is that I feel they've done a good job constructing their team, and I can hope that if Sabathia+Carmona+Sizemore+Hafner=WS that Santana+Liriano+Mauer+Morneau=WS.
Has there been any thought at all given to starting Johan on Sunday to try to get him the strikeout leadership? He only pitched three innings last night, so it's not like it would be that hard for him to go on three days' rest. I'm not saying they have to do that, but I'm just wondering if there's been any talk of it anywhere.
Johan told Gardy his next start is Monday
Starting for whom?
his family's pickup softball game I assume
this was all mentioned during the radio pregame show.
but who knows, things might change
What happened to start the fifth?
Punto power!
Nice catch by Lowell. Too bad, Kubell woulda made trax on that ball, Punt-o scoring.
Slight miss, there, boyos. Troubles in the pahhk.
I guess we'll take runs any way we can get them.
I take it Ortiz hit the ball squarely?
d'oh!
34 delivers pizza to the right field bleachers.
NESN: you can't hit a bit much hawdah than 'at.
Big Papi is strong like bull!
Bill Russell in the house at Fenway tonite.
Dazzle really seems like he's in a bad mood tonight. I normally like the fact that he's not afraid to say what he thinks and criticize people, but tonight it seems like nobody can do anything right. Lighten up, huh?
I noticed that too. I think its a hangover of yesterdays non-effort and millions of hours of rain delays
Jonesy!!!!!!!
Garrett! Pally!
Garrett hit that one a long ways.
weeee
Homer!
Given what they've said of Buscher's travel plans, I'm assuming he's not married.
Guess I was wrong.
Ubes, we have the same top 3. My #4 is easily The Fighting LaRussa's. Add in a dose of Edmonds, a dash of the Hitler Youth SS, a drunk driver and you get a toxic potion of obnoxiousness.
Adam HATES So Taguchi. It's mostly irrational, but it's always an immediate answer whenever anyone asks "Who's your least favorite player ever?", "Who would you kill if you had a freebie?", etc.
So Taguchi looks exactly like my neighbor across teh hallway at my apartment
its crazy
I should mention Adam is a huge Cubs fan for those that don't remember previous mentions of him. That will explain some of the Taguchi hatin'
Well, I'm out, friends. Have a good evening.
have a good one
Man(ny) aboard.
I can't believe the best fielding second baseman of all time dropped that.
Sweet DP there by the Twin.
Mike Lowell hits into DP in clutch situation. He would fit in well with the Twins.
Hey SoCal, you interested in doing a BKAC entry?
Sure. I could.
Just email me at sbg-bkac [at] hotmail [dot] com and I'll get you setup.
OK
Something other than dead presidents, please.
Who doesn't love dead presidents?
And yes, I'm aware Ben Franklin was never actually president.
When is Greenspan going to be on the Greenback?
Come on, you can't take Ben Franklin off of a bill. Screw Grant is what I say.
I'm currently reading "The Autobiography of Ben Franklin". He's only like 25 at this point, but he's already lived more than I probably ever will.
Hamilton wasn't a president either.
Zap! (Kite and key scene). Franklin: While my guitar gently weeps!
He was 1st Secretary of the Treasury though. Grant's presidency was notoriously corrupt and ineffective. If you want to honor the man, create a military honor with his name.
When's Ollie North going to get on a quid? Or fin?
