ALCS Game 2: CLE at BOS

I picked the Indians to win the ALCS because I want them to win more than anything. The other big reason was because I thought four starts by Captain Cheeseburger and Fausto Carmona would give the Tribe an advantage. Then the big beef patty gave up a bunch last night and one has to wonder, coming off of two short starts whether he has much left. Cleveland needs this one tonight.

It seems to me if you're going to call CC "the big beef patty" (I like it, btw) you'd best capitalize it.

GreekHouse replied on October 13, 2007 at 6:31:49 pm

Does this mean we can call Manny "The Hamburglar"?

brianS replied on October 13, 2007 at 6:49:42 pm

and Bobby Kielty as Ronald McDonald???

brianS replied on October 13, 2007 at 6:50:57 pm

In support of the Injuns, I'm making saag paneer (albeit not with homemade paneer) and chana dal tonight.

Rhubarb_Runner replied on October 13, 2007 at 7:08:51 pm

They can use all the mojo you can give 'em. Me, I've updated my voodoo doll avatar.

brianS replied on October 13, 2007 at 7:22:30 pm

I'm making whole wheat honey bread. I mean whole wheat Injun bread.

New Britain Bo replied on October 13, 2007 at 8:19:29 pm

I used olive oil instead, and topped with Kosher salt. Not bad.

New Britain Bo replied on October 13, 2007 at 7:22:30 pm

brianS replied on October 13, 2007 at 7:25:12 pm

brianS replied on October 13, 2007 at 7:26:14 pm

New Britain Bo replied on October 13, 2007 at 7:42:38 pm

Youklis' facials reminds me of a cousin.

Many years ago, said cousin and I are riding back from town in my dad's GMC pickup. Looking ahead, I see an irrigator at work.

NBB: "Bruno, open up your window."

Bruno: "OK".

(Irrigator shoots blast of water directly into Bruno's ear. NBB yucks it up.)

Carmona struggling with the lil things. Ortiz looms in the distance.

New Britain Bo replied on October 13, 2007 at 8:27:00 pm

Huge KO by Faust. Yet lefthanded Papi remains.

New Britain Bo replied on October 13, 2007 at 8:31:08 pm

Bases loaded, 2 outs. Ramirez up to bat.

GreekHouse replied on October 13, 2007 at 8:32:23 pm

Why must this keep happening?

New Britain Bo replied on October 13, 2007 at 8:33:35 pm

Cremona whiffs one run in. Manny RBI for standing there.

New Britain Bo replied on October 13, 2007 at 8:35:51 pm

Creamate continues to struggle. Sox score at will.

New Britain Bo replied on October 13, 2007 at 8:37:46 pm

Croatoa saved by broken bat.

Jeff A replied on October 13, 2007 at 8:45:42 pm

Garko's going to tie this thing up.

Jeff A replied on October 13, 2007 at 8:46:10 pm

Well, he kept things going, anyway.

Jeff A replied on October 13, 2007 at 8:48:01 pm

New Britain Bo replied on October 13, 2007 at 8:48:15 pm

Schill hung her up there in the middle. Nice.

Jeff A replied on October 13, 2007 at 8:52:28 pm

I still think it seems wrong to hear an ad about Christmas parties when you're listening to a baseball game.

New Britain Bo replied on October 13, 2007 at 8:58:38 pm

Don't mind the mums in the grocery store - don't like the X'masery until Thanksgiving done, tho.

Jeff A replied on October 13, 2007 at 8:53:42 pm

Good timing: a Cleveland eye clinic has Peralta as its spokesman, talking about laser eye surgery he had.

New Britain Bo replied on October 13, 2007 at 9:00:15 pm

Craymonia still strugglin'.

Jeff A replied on October 13, 2007 at 9:02:09 pm

Cleveland announcers note that Manny Ramirez has set a record for most bases-loaded walks in a post-season series.

SBG replied on October 13, 2007 at 9:02:25 pm

At least the Clevelands are in this game. Last night was uk-ly. Then again, Carmona has been less than stellar.

New Britain Bo replied on October 13, 2007 at 9:04:48 pm

More cow-bells!!

SBG replied on October 13, 2007 at 9:06:24 pm

In about six or seven years, Top Jimmy'll use that line.

New Britain Bo replied on October 13, 2007 at 9:08:56 pm

Blue Oyster madness.

GreekHouse replied on October 13, 2007 at 9:09:09 pm

That might be my second favorite Joe Buck moment ever.

SBG replied on October 13, 2007 at 9:11:25 pm

Number one is a good one.

Jeff A replied on October 13, 2007 at 9:07:00 pm

As brianS noted, the dead air in some of the breaks on Cleveland radio is annoying. I assume we hear the network commercials, but get dead air in the time alloted for local stations. The Twins network either plays "Twins Territory" spots or public service ads (e.g. "Bert Blyleven, Traffic Safety Private Eye") during those times.

SBG replied on October 13, 2007 at 9:11:57 pm

Grady!

Jeff A replied on October 13, 2007 at 9:12:06 pm

Sizemore Sizzles!!!!

SBG replied on October 13, 2007 at 9:13:15 pm

Rosenthal: Sizemore is Cleveland's version of Derek Jeter.
SBG: Except he can really field his position, too.

brianS replied on October 13, 2007 at 10:37:31 pm

Grady Dreammore.

Jeff A replied on October 13, 2007 at 9:18:33 pm

Tom Hamilton (Cleveland radio) says the Boston crowd acts like they think this series is a formality and they won't get excited until the World Series.

brianS replied on October 13, 2007 at 10:36:48 pm

I thought nobody gave a crap about the N.L. teams???

Jeff A replied on October 13, 2007 at 9:19:24 pm

Delcarmen brought into a tough spot. If Garko gets into one, this game could be over.

Jeff A replied on October 13, 2007 at 9:23:06 pm

Delcarmen does the job.

New Britain Bo replied on October 13, 2007 at 9:29:27 pm

Carmonet seeyabye.

New Britain Bo replied on October 13, 2007 at 9:31:49 pm

GreekHouse replied on October 13, 2007 at 9:35:17 pm

6 seconds.

GreekHouse replied on October 13, 2007 at 9:34:31 pm

Ortiz shows off his wheels.

Jeff A replied on October 13, 2007 at 9:37:34 pm

What happened to that pitchers' duel a kept hearing about?

New Britain Bo replied on October 13, 2007 at 9:39:01 pm

Lowell smoke on the water.

New Britain Bo replied on October 13, 2007 at 9:40:02 pm

God, that was really out there - bounced off the billboard.

SBG replied on October 13, 2007 at 9:39:12 pm

Owie. Owie.

Jeff A replied on October 13, 2007 at 9:39:40 pm

Not exactly what Wedge was hoping for when he brought in Perez.

GreekHouse replied on October 13, 2007 at 9:40:13 pm

Are they chanting MVP for Lowell?

New Britain Bo replied on October 13, 2007 at 9:41:33 pm

cat pitcher | sed s/'Perez'/anyone/g

Jeff A replied on October 13, 2007 at 9:46:38 pm

It sure sounded like a great double play.

New Britain Bo replied on October 13, 2007 at 9:46:50 pm

Nice DP there by th' Native Americans.

Jeff A replied on October 13, 2007 at 9:49:24 pm

New Britain Bo replied on October 13, 2007 at 9:52:07 pm

Nite, padre.

New Britain Bo replied on October 13, 2007 at 9:57:05 pm

Tie game. Time to mix it up, mgrs.

GreekHouse replied on October 13, 2007 at 10:01:59 pm

I would not want to stand in the batter's box against a guy who is throwing 90mph and not looking at where he's throwing.

New Britain Bo replied on October 13, 2007 at 10:04:12 pm

Okajima outta control.

New Britain Bo replied on October 13, 2007 at 10:07:17 pm

Bases loaded for Pronk.

New Britain Bo replied on October 13, 2007 at 10:14:08 pm

F7-outage there. Well done.

GreekHouse replied on October 13, 2007 at 10:25:01 pm

I predict Indians win in 17 and another game that goes to 2 AM.

brianS replied on October 13, 2007 at 10:32:02 pm

I dunno. Youk, Papi, ManRam next up.

brianS replied on October 13, 2007 at 10:34:14 pm

Dusty Baker to the Reds? What does that mean for the Twins/Reds nexus? Will we be able to unload ALL our crappy veterans on them?

twayn replied on October 13, 2007 at 11:12:55 pm

I feel Cincinnati's pain.

brianS replied on October 13, 2007 at 10:35:38 pm

Betancourt arrives in the 7th. He's gonna get at least 4 outs tonight, no?

brianS replied on October 13, 2007 at 10:40:05 pm

Milli Vanilli called. They say you can keep the dreads, Manny.

brianS replied on October 13, 2007 at 10:43:39 pm

Manny's batting helmet == disease vector. If you touch it, your skin crawls off and dies.

brianS replied on October 13, 2007 at 10:44:07 pm

Betancourt wins the face-off.

brianS replied on October 13, 2007 at 10:50:46 pm

Nice catch by Coco. AND he replaces his divot.

brianS replied on October 13, 2007 at 10:52:37 pm

I am older than Mike Timlin, but not a lot. Where'd he get the juvenation treatment?

brianS replied on October 13, 2007 at 10:59:51 pm

How the hell can Lowell play baseball with those two caterpillars above his eyes?

twayn replied on October 13, 2007 at 10:59:58 pm

After an evening of troubleshooting, I finally managed to get my intertubes working again. Some game, huh? This is the way playoff baseball should be, only without Buck and McCarver and Fox.

brianS replied on October 13, 2007 at 11:04:22 pm

the mute button works wonders, twayn.

brianS replied on October 13, 2007 at 11:02:19 pm

twayn replied on October 13, 2007 at 11:05:29 pm

brianS replied on October 13, 2007 at 11:03:19 pm

damn. after all that, Lowell gets crossed up on...a changeup??

twayn replied on October 13, 2007 at 11:06:05 pm

84 mph, looked more like a breaking ball.

brianS replied on October 13, 2007 at 11:06:04 pm

a little asdrubaler to second from Varitek.

brianS replied on October 13, 2007 at 11:09:07 pm

the closer in a tie game? is that allowed?

twayn replied on October 13, 2007 at 11:10:19 pm

Ever try to get a Windows 2000 laptop to connect to your Windows XP wireless network? No matter what I try I can't access anything in the workgroup, all I can do is get a 'net connection.

brianS replied on October 13, 2007 at 11:13:26 pm

sorry. I'm all XP at home.

Even so, getting multiple machines to talk to the one that was physically connected to my printer was an absolute nightmare.

brianS replied on October 13, 2007 at 11:14:46 pm

and I don't think I EVER succeeded with the laptop. It just talks to my router.

twayn replied on October 13, 2007 at 11:17:27 pm

Yep, same thing here. Since I can't get in the front door, I'm going to try the back door and enable my two XP machines for remote desktop access from the laptop via the internet, or maybe try a VPN if I get worried about security.

96 mph, low and outside. Unhittable.

twayn replied on October 13, 2007 at 11:18:34 pm

Big AB for the Pronk here.

brianS replied on October 13, 2007 at 11:19:52 pm

Pronk scoops a 90-mph breaking ball up the middle. And he's done for the night as Josh Barfield gets some face time.

Viktor von Doom with the chance to be a hero.

brianS replied on October 13, 2007 at 11:20:44 pm

that didn't take long for Barfield. Papelbon apparently doesn't care about the runner.

brianS replied on October 13, 2007 at 11:21:49 pm

yikes. and that takes the bat out of Martinez's hand. It's up to Garko. Interesting strategy.

brianS replied on October 13, 2007 at 11:25:23 pm

Lowell makes it look easy.

brianS replied on October 13, 2007 at 11:31:23 pm

that's dumb.
