Anybody got the Rocks tonight?
The General wouldn't mind another game or two of advertising...
Ubes seems to think it's possible the Rox win this one. I'll be hoping he's right.
Mark Grace says pride will be a factor in the Rockies' win - just like the Padres in 1998, the Braves in 1999, the Cardinals in 2004, the Astros in 2005...
The Mets in 2000...Oops.
Yeah, I'm cherry-picking, but I think "pride" is pretty silly. Everybody has pride, so is he saying the Rockies' pride is greater than the Sox'? It's just silly.
Yeah, people are always trying to make up reasons that a team has an advantage. I mean, it seems so unlikely that they could be swept after winning 20/21 right?
Actually, the oops there was because I thought the Mets were swept. Turns out they won game 3.
From what I can tell, the last team to fall down 3-0 in the WS and not get swept was the 1970 Cincinnati Reds and there have been several sweeps since then.
Yeah, I won't be able to watch the game tonight, but Jon Lester wasn't all that good this year. He had a decent K-rate, but too many walks and too many fly balls makes him an awful lot like Glen Perkins has been so far. (And I'm on record as not being a huge Perkins fan.) Both Lester and Perkins would seem to profile better as relief pitchers to me.
Cook would scare the heck out of me as a Rox fan given his low K-rate, but when healthy he's gotten a lot of ground balls. With the layoff, though, he's a huge quesion mark, so who really knows what'll happen?
I think it's reasonable to expect a lot of runs tonight, and Colorado definitely has a shot. Hopefully they can pick up a game here, maybe the next one, and generate a little bit of excitement before the season ends.
I'm still hoping, but a fat lot of good it's done us so far.
It's not the end of the world, but you can see it from here.
I feel fine.
On the bright side, NBC is showing The Bourne Supremacy right now.
I'll be tuning in to The Next Iron Chef in about fifteen minutes.
Art Schlichter?
Supposed to nest under Anybody got the Rox tonite?
That shouldn't give the Colorado fans much solace.
Anybody else wonder why the Rox selected "Colorado" instead of Denver? It's not like here where there are two cities. Then again, expansion teams seem to be claiming the whole state: AZD, FLO.
The Dakota Bisons. Wait, that hasn't happened yet.
Fargo teams always add Moorhead to the name, although I don't know of a single team with the name Fargo-Moorhead that ever actually played in Moorhead.
They add Moorhead for the "class" factor, Stick.
B^P
They should erase the border and re-draw it N to S. West Dakota would actually be a pretty state.
Should have drawn it along the Missouri River. There'd be about 300,000 people in West Dakota, but it would be scenic.
I guess that would make the capitol of West Dakota Rapid City, considering half the people in the state would live there.

Two Senators. Slightly influential voters there, I would say.
Run the border right up the Missouri River?
What Stick just said.
Made a batch of beer couple years ago - called it '100 States', and listed them on the label: included several new states (Kuwait, Canadian provinces 'cept Quebec, Mexico, Cuba, etc.). Cali got split into four new states. Dakotas and Carolinas got combined. Don't recall but might have split Idaho into Washtanaho. Was an IPA if I recall.
did you give Texas its due and split it in 5???
I remember going out to Mount Rushmore about 5 years ago across I90. The difference crossing the Missouri was like night and day.
I love Chamberlain (the town at the intersection of I-90 and the Missouri) for that very reason.
I remember stopping at the Lewis and Clark center there on a hill over-looking the valley below and it was like God had taken a brown crayon and a green crayon and stayed in the lines.
I'll just hazard a guess and say it's because the mountains are west of the city proper (and cross the entire state). If you come into Denver from the west you realize right away that you're up on the high, high plains and not in the mountains anymore.
This kid reminds of of Denard Span. When he was in high school.
Do over?
Ugh, this isn't this wonderful?
Manny: New batch of hooch on my helmet should sustain here.
Manny - best hair in the MLB - doesn't translate into OB tho.
+5 5-finger discounts
Brazen! A future jail bird, for sure.
Sorry, Andrew...
You do what you gotta do, who am I to judge? I'm a 21 year old who thinks the campfire farting scene in Blazin' Saddles is the pinnacle of American cinema. I laugh so hard every time I see that.
Have you never seen This is Spinal Tap?
Oh, I own the special edition of Spinal Tap.
On of my formative libertarian experiences was seeing Blazing Saddles (or something vaguely resembling it) on network TV.
the farting sounds were replaced with horses whinying.
Dumbest. Edit. Ever.
I can't stop watching. I like the way he acts all casual when he crosses the threshold, then looks around a bit before snatching the chips. Then he just boogies outta there. I want this bird in my gang.
He does look rather anthropomorphized.
was this the test required to turn him into a made bird???
As long as he don't sing to the coppers, this goose is golden, knowwhatimean?
Nice basehauling there.
390 (F'way) deep vs. 415 (Coors) - great visual there.
Sea-level v. Mile-high.
Has anyone actually checked to make sure that's Ortiz playing first and not some dude wearing an Ortiz costume?
Testing Ortiz on a bunt might be a good idea to start an inning, not when there's a man at 3rd with 2 outs.
Dinner time gents. I'll be back later
Tul-O
Just in case anybody didn't already know, playing World Series drinking games is fun at the time but not so fun the next day. Especially when you don't stop after the game ends.
Drinking every time the Sahx score could prove fatal.
We based it on which team each person was rooting for. Each time your team made an out, you have to drink. Each time your team gets a hit or a walk, the other people have to drink. If you give up a home run or a stolen base, you have to do a shot.
We made up a game for the commercial breaks too, where the first person to say what the commercial is for doesn't have to drink.
Man it was a long game.
You writers are hellions.
Every time you post a comment on WGOM, you must take 5 drinks.
That'll thin the herd...
On the other hand, it will make it less painful for all of us when the Rock Stars lose.
Wow. An hour in and it's still a game. What's up with that?
Also, it's an hour in and past the 2nd inning!
Hey, doc! You sticking around?
I'll be in and out for the next hour and a half or so.
I'm starting to feel like the old alum who went to the homecoming party and stayed too long. Just me and the kids playing quarters.
well, I'm finishing dinner (the making of, not the eating). will have to eat it at some point. then I gotta go pick The Boy up from an event at about 8:15 local -- or about the 7th inning, the way things are going.
I'll be in the corner wearing a lampshade talking about how Husker Du could mop the floor with any of these young punk bands.
Did you know that Jon Lester had cancer? I think it was during a college football game.
Thank goodness it wasn't the coffin-corner variety.
Dice-K woulda got the guy at second on that.
'Tek Leadership and Pride. Rockies lack that Tek Wars approach.
Ruh Roh. Floodgates cranking open?
Meanwhile, cargo ships pull into the Boston harbor loaded with additional arrogance for Hub sports fans.
Lester is almost as good at bunting as Punto!
Boys, you cannot win if you cannot score.
That goes against all conventional wisdom.
Rooting for the Rox is a lot like rooting for the locals.
It's like a final dagger in the hearts of the Nation's Citizens.
so, will we be Undead during the off-season?
I would be willing to do a regular feature on necromancy if anyone is interested.
Grab GH a cold one.
+10
I'll have to come up with some ways to undo the damage.
Why wasn't Dumber calling for Torrealba to be out on that foul ball? I mean, according to him, a big chunk of the batter's box is in fair territory!
Dumber says Cook should not be batting as Cook gets his ownself on base. Shut UP McStupid.
ZOMG! Cook is better at bunting than Nick Punto!
GH -- The T-Wolves are doing a good job of unloading contracts now. It's going to be a cold winter, but what are your thoughts about the upcoming season in terms of development? The second round pick makes the club for the second consecutive year... is there hope?
I think the Wolves have a solid nucleus of young talent right now. I didn't get to see very many games last season, so I'm not as up to date as I would like to be. But last year's second round pick turned out to be a pretty solid player and I would expect him to continue to be a solid role-player/spot starter for years to come. Jefferson is a young stud and a franchise caliber player. Foye has All-Star potential and McCants might even pan out to be a decent player. We also have 3 (I think!?) first-round picks next season and will have a lot of money to resign players and possible get a good FA.
There will be some lean years for sure, but as long as McHale doesn't get impatient, I think that we could be pretty good in the near future.
Three?
Ours (assuming we don't lose it to the Clips, hahahahahahahahaha), Miami IF they miss the playoffs... and the C's?
