Keeping up with the ex-Vikings: Warren Moon was arrested Saturday night on suspicion of DUI and driving with a suspended license.

This is not a first offense.

Jeff A replied on January 2nd, 2008 at 10:03 am

The way I understand it, he was arrested for DUI in April, but the charge was reduced to negligent driving. For purposes of charging him, then, it would be a first offense. If someone knows something different from this, feel free to correct me.

SBG
SBG replied on January 2nd, 2008 at 10:23 am

Why was his license suspended? For negligent driving?

SBG
SBG replied on January 2nd, 2008 at 10:25 am

Here's a little information from a Seattle area TV station website:

Lt. Dan Yourkoski with the Medina police said Moon was driving just east of the 520 bridge when he was stopped for expired tabs.

According to police, Moon produced a valid Texas license, but a check of his license showed his privileges to drive in Washington had been suspended.

A Viking QB double! I've heard stories of Tommy TooMany being in Detroit Lakes in the wee hours of a Sunday Day Game. Not too sure about the authenticity of the stories, but he was a hard living guy, for sure.

Tommy's old Twin Cities home is about 3 blocks from where my parents live and is definitely unique in appearance. It looks like quite the bachelor pad.

USA Today names Adrian Peterson its NFL Rookie of the Year. And the Associated Press named him NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year (the one that counts).

I sure hope this article doesn't mean what I think it could mean, because that would be bad. I'm going to assume its just a Get-to-know-'em piece, and not a sneak peek at the early company line. You know, like, "Tony Batista can still hit," and "Castro's a great fielder."

Jeff A
Jeff A replied on January 2nd, 2008 at 2:04 pm

I wondered about that, too. I find it unlikely, though possible, that the reporter had the idea for this article all on his own. I think the Twins are probably still trying to acquire a center fielder, but I also think someone is trying to prepare us for the possibility that it will be Pridie, and is trying to convince us that wouldn't be a bad thing.

SBG replied on January 2nd, 2008 at 2:07 pm

How about the author quoting BP and Gleeman?

twayn
twayn replied on January 2nd, 2008 at 2:41 pm

Well, that was cool to an extent, but it's likely just eye wash and window dressing. The Twins, beginning to fear that a Santana deal won't get done this year, feed Miller the story idea. Phil gets one independent quote from BP and pulls a line from Gleeman's blog to make the piece look "fair and balanced." Notice there's no shortage of direct quotes from (and background material on) Smith and Pridie, so this was obviously done with team access (i.e. through the Twins media relations office). If I'm pushing this story to a reporter, I'm also giving him that access to the GM and player to get it done. But I could just be paranoid, too.

That reminds me, what the heck is a Tampa Bay "Ray?" Are they referencing Ray Charles? That would be cool, have the Raylettes singing the National Anthem and making public appearances, RC's version of America the Beautiful during the 7th Inning Stretch, A silhouette of the classic Ray Charles pose: laughing with Raybans, on the jersey's. One can dream.....

SBG
SBG replied on January 2nd, 2008 at 3:20 pm

A good choice, but how about a Ray signifying a beam of light? After wandering around in the darkness for their entire existence, there seems to be a Ray of Hope, if you will.
