2007-08 Game 51: Los Angeles Lakers at Minnesota Timberwolves

Posted by GreekHouse on Wednesday, February 13th, 2008 at 6:00 pm

<GreekHouse>The Wolves had a pretty good stretch that had everyone feeling a lot better about the team, but the recent skid has brought them back to reality. Still, the Wolves are playing better ball than they were a month ago. The problem is that they're still worse than most of the teams in the league and can expect to lose plenty.

The losses against Houston and Boston were close and the Wolves can feel good about how they played in those games. The Toronto game was a bit of a blowout, but I don't feel like the Wolves played as badly as the scoreboard would suggest. Toronto has a good defensive team and they kept the Wolves lackluster offense in check. On offense, they shot over 50% despite the fact that they were mostly taking jumpers. Granted, many of them were wide open, but I feel as though they still made a lot more of those shots than they would expect to make on average. Not a great game, but nothing to get too hung up about. Then, last night in Jersey, the Wolves managed to keep the game close despite a terrible offensive outing. The Nets' bigs did a good job of disrupting the team's offense and cause them to miss a lot of inside shots that I'd normally expect them to make.

Tonight the Wolves get the Lakers, and despite giving up over 100 points per game, the Lakers actually rank 8th in defensive efficiency. However, most of that was with Bynum. Now, they've got Gasol instead. It's gonna be a tough matchup for this team for sure.</GreekHouse>

I've been remiss in my setting up game log posts. What can I say -- I'm busy down here in Mom's basement. :)

The Wolves are 10-40, the exact same record as they had at this point back in 91-92, the year they ended up with a franchise low 15 wins. The era of good feeling might be over now, but maybe not. In any event, it's a long season. In ten games, we might still be feeling good about this team. Or, we might be back in a deep depression.

I think we can win 6 games to avoid that franchise record

Yes, this is a better team than that one. That team was pathetic.

Did you see Phil Jackson talking about the Wolves? He was trying to pump up the Wolves, and it was totally unbelievable.

Did he say that we have 4-5 futer HOFers on the team? Because that's totally plausible.

Foye is teh suck. Bassy went out, he came in and the Lakers went to a full-court press. They can't get the ball up the court, they have no threat of penetration, and there is zero flow to the offense.

So I'm assuming that means the Wolves haven't given up on making Foye a PG? The kid just doesn't have the instincts/handles to do it, IMO.

Now I remember why I hate Kobe. It's not enough that he's the best 1-on-1 player in the world, but between all the fake calls and flying elbows/legs, he's a gigantic pansy to top things off. This is where the NBA really needs to take a lesson from the NHL...goons would never let crap like that fly. Of course, that's kind of crazy so the next best thing they could do is bring in international refs who won't give a call every time a guy gets grazed (see James, Lebron in last year's Worlds).

If it was the NHL, the Lakers would put a bruiser on Kobe's line and anyone who had a problem with Kobe would have to go through the goon. Maybe Kobe's goon would get a bit fed up and tell him to cut the crap, but probably not.

Was that the 1st alley-oop of the year for the Wolves?
