Technically, they pan Farrell, but like the film when he's not on screen. A glance at Metacritic shows it not getting a lot of love from the nation's critics, in general. I think the film sports an "Inspired by the book Loose Balls by Terry Pluto" tag. What they should have done is made a film about Marvin "Bad News" Barnes. Talk about your tragicomedy. If you haven't heard it, "News' has one of the all-time great sports quotes.
Yeah, I was using the STRIB's headline methodology in an effort to goose readership. Shameless!
Yeah, but you can't wrap fish in yours.
I was thinking I might not see Semi-Pro, because I've seen Blades of Glory and Talledega Nights, and I was unsure if I wanted to see Ferrell go through his sports routine again so soon, but the City Pages review almost has me wanting to see it. Mainly because I figure that even if it's not especially memorable, I'll probably enjoy Ferrell's time on screen, so if the rest of the movie is good, maybe it's worth seeing. Plus, I'm a big Outkast fan so I'm curious to see Andre Benjamin's performance.
Uni-Watch with a groovy ABA-themed edition. I'm digging these Minnesota Muskies jerseys.
(To say nothing of the Floridian's ball girls.)
I saw the movie and I actually didn't think it was too bad. Better than Blades of Glory, that's for sure.
