Why?

You may be asking, Why? Why, SBG, did you change the look of your site so much? What's with the colors? OMG, are you crazy?
Well, yes. Yes, I am. Glad you noticed.
In case you didn't notice, I like tinkering with this site. In fact, I like the tinkering almost as much as I like writing about the various topics that I write about. One school of thought is that a site should be bare -- you know, focus on the content, that's what's important to readers. That's fine of course, but this is my little baby and I like to work on the look of the site, too. So, I do.
A few things to notice. One, I have added RSS feeds for the Music and SBG Headlines categories on the left. I dumped those from my main feed because of sites like the Twins Geek's MNGameDay site. He's running a little RSS feeder on the front page and if I've got 15 links a day going to that reader, one of two things is going to happen. Either I'm going to drown out everyone else's stuff with non-Twins related stuff or TG is going to get frustrated and pull my feed. I don't want either to happen. But, alas, some people want to have feeds for their readers that include this stuff. So, I have created separate feeds to which people can subscribe to get their fill of WGOM goodness. Win, win!
Two, I have created another column. Someone please stop me. I created the SBG Headlines feature as a way to link to articles and start discussions that might otherwise be buried in the Cup of Coffee. I wanted this to be open to more people than just me, so anyone with permission to post can post in SBG Headlines. Ideally, I'd like to see at least 10 new headlines a day, but however the spirit moves you. SBG Headlines is really dedicated to linking to other articles. That's separate from the CoC, which is where anyone can say just about anything. There is an insanely easy way to post to SBG Headlines (you won't believe how easy it is). If you have permissions and want to know how to do it really easily, drop me an E-mail at SBG [at] stickandballguy [dot] com.
Where was I? Oh yeah, that other column. I've decided that the Notes from the Ditch semi-feature is moving to a side column. This column is intended to be my thoughts about this and that. This column is reserved for me alone. If I want to post a thought about life, it goes there. The rest of the site is pretty free for everyone else, but I'll claim that spot.
Three, OMG, the colors, they burn! Get used to it. I chose these colors so that they were safe for all browsers. (Mother@#$@#ing IE.) I also like them because they clash with each other a little. It's kind of 60s or 70s. I don't know, I'll defer to E-6 on what they look like (other than like s$#@). I can change them if I want, I suppose, but I'll stick with them for now.
Four, what is the preferred brower here? Well, I use FireFox at home, although I think the site looks better on Safari, which I have loaded on my PC, too. I find the PC version of Safari to be a little unstable, but it renders the site terrifically, even better than FF. Specifically, the video is the right size in Safari and in FF it's too small. As for IE, what I'll say is this: at least the columns now longer smush onto each other. The video column is still a problem (at least in IE7, I don't know about IE6). I'll try to figure that out.
Five, you can expect more changes. I think the front page won't be changed much, but I want to fix the single post pages a little more. You've seen the Cup of Coffee post page change. I want the Twins Game logs to have a distinctive look, too. I'll probably keep the basic header, but I have some ideas for features that would make the Game Logging more fun. I'll work on that next week.
Six, so what goes in the main column if you have all of these side columns? Game logs, regular features, analysis pieces. Ubes has provided the lion's share of stuff there recently (and he is the one of the most creative baseball writers out there), but as the season starts, I expect more and more stuff to end up there. Maybe, the Nation will have More Problems, maybe there'll be more Previews in Blog, etc. This isn't some blog, it's the WGOM. All this content needs a place to hang out.
I hope you enjoy the site half as much as I do.

I enjoy it three fifths as much as you do!
I'm going to reserve judgment, because change is not always good.
I think it looks good, and the colors are intriguing. My only concern is that someone visiting the site for the first time might feel slightly overwhelmed by the abundance of information. There's going to be a little bit of a learning curve for any other potential New Guys.
I hope you enjoy the site half as much as I do.
So you want to get twice as much enjoyment from the WGOM as any other citizen? Not very egalitarian of you.
Okay, I hope you enjoy it at least half as much as I do.
You certainly achieved the "Mid-Century Modern" or "Retro" color scheme you were after. I think the layout is swell and I'll soon get used to the splash of color. Just like our post-war Nation did back in the 50' and 60's.
(The music room still needs a couple of these, though.)

I'd like to report a typo- check the header.
Ouch, that stings.
I'll play with whoever you write in the lineup each day, SBG.
I'm not a huge fan of the SBG Headlines (especially 10 a day - my God, some of us have work to pretend to do!) but whatever. It takes a lot to feed a Nation.
Site looks fine in IE6, except for an overly-long margin below the video, pushing down Notes From the Ditch and Cuppa Joe. Say what you will about IE, but the lion's share of visitors will be using it (unfortunately).
A thought for the Game log pages: How about dropping links to the day's MLB Gameday, MLB Audio, ESPN's live boxscore, etc. at the top of the post? Makes it convenient for anyone to quickly jump right into a game, right from everyone's favorite site.
(btw, how's your reading going? I'm about to send Eric my list of corrections)
That long column is a huge improvement from what it was.
The game log idea is along the idea of what I want to do. If it works, I'm going to put a live score widget in place.
w00t -- WGOM is the happenin' place!
I'm not a huge fan of the SBG Headlines
You got a problem with anal incontinence, Rhu_Ru?
SBG Headlines are pretty fun, I think. 'cept for the anal incontinence part.
Indirectly, maybe, but like Felix Pie's testicular torsion problems, it's not a topic that needs to be explored further.
