I've heard Rick Anderson say a couple of times this spring that Baker might surprise people this year. And of course he's going to surprise people--the Twins have been feeding the media nothing but negative thoughts about Baker from the moment he stepped on a major league mound. One of my high school classmates started shouting maniacally at me last year on the 4th of July when I dared to stick up for Baker. When I saw him again in September, he was very sheepish about the whole thing. That's going to happen again since Sloweys a control pitcher who needs repetition and is still young. It didn't sound anything was that well hit and he was consistently ahead of the hitters. Slowey would seem to be the quintessential Twins pitcher: Great control, works quickly and is smart.
