Cup of CoffeeWolves lose again by 22, Kevin Love down to 17 minutes. This is the worst possible situation for the Wolves. They are driving what is left of their fan base with a tremendous stretch of terrible basketball. Their best, or second-best, player has checked out and is getting buried on the bench. I doubt that Love is in their long term plans. How's that O.J. Mayo deal looking now? Citizens Online25 Users Online WGOM Sign InLog InRetired WGOM Jokes

For some reason, I'm having trouble getting excited about the baseball season starting. Maybe I just have too much going on in my life right now to pay attention to it. Or maybe it's because, for the first time in several years, I have no expectation that the Twins will be in contention. I'll still pay attention, and I'll still watch when I can, but my enthusiasm is down this year.
How about the rest of you? Are you feeling the same way, or is it just me?
Can't say I feel the same way. I'm counting down the days.
I'm with you. Normally I wouldn't think about dropping an extra forty bucks a month to get cable, but I don't think I'm going to this year. I watched the game yesterday, and the same interest wasn't there.
I'm sure I'll have the radio on or Gameday up whenever I'm home, but perhaps I'll get more work done this summer on personal projects without the game on every night.
Keeping up with the ex-Twins: Texas assigns Sir Sidney Ponson to minor-league camp.
SBG Bracket Pool Update:
Myself, freealonzo, banjo, and zooomx are all tied for first with 46 points. Will Young and his Duke hatin' are just behind with 45. SBG's Crappy Picks are as advertised, as he's in second-to-last.
Yeah, I suck and I'm proud of it. Two of my Final Four teams are out. The plan is coming together.
Georgetown let me down big time, but I feel real confident about the rest of my picks. I should be in it to the end.
Georgetown and Duke didn't let me down! (Sure I had them each advancing one more round, but I was using my personal motto for my picks: "If I win because Duke wins, do I really win?" and then applied it to Georgetown as well.)
I was on the Roy Hibbert bandwagon, until I remembered Michael Sweetney. Jump, tuck, and roll, and my bracket is saved.
On the other hand, I've moved up in the standings to the middle of the pack. But I have no delusions of moving up much further.
Wow, I didn't think I could suck that bad.
After looking at, like some statistics and stuff, I did a second bracket at work. I'm not sure how I made those decisions. I picked Davidson over Georgetown, WV over Duke, and Mich St. over Pitt. I've only lost Marquette from my Elite 8 teams on that bracket. That bracket has Wisc over WV for the national title. If that happens, I might actually win money.
If that happens, I'm going to go out on a limb and say you will win money.
Someone at Deadspin has stolen ubelmann's avatar.
"Identity theft is not a joke, Jim. Millions of families suffer every year!" I just got to thinking about this. Always makes me laugh.
Imitation, flattery, etc.
I've always wondered this: who is that man in ubelmann's avatar

Twins final cuts: Philip Humber, Denard Span, Brian Buscher and Jason Pridie.
So, the early verdict on the Tampa Bay trade: Garza and Bartlett over there, Young over here. Advantage, Tampa Bay.
What about Harris? He could keep Punto out of the lineup. That has to count for something.
Yep. Forgot about Harris.
It doesn't have to count for anything.
sending Humber Humber down with the youngsters...makes me nervous.
I think Denard Span is our Lolita.

Looking out at the still snow-covered Twins Cities landscape, I'm suddenly wishing that shiny new stadium they're building were going to have a retractable roof. I'm not real anxious to go see a baseball game wearing long johns, a parka, and pac boots. That would be okay in late September, but not early April.
Even with a roof you would need long johns, a parka and pac boots. The roof would have been an "umbrella". It would have slid over to prevent precipitation but would have done nothing to combat the temperature or wind.
You're right, of course. But I do remember talk early on about integrating some sort of heating system into the seating areas, like radiant floor heating in homes. Later that was amended so that only the field was to have heating pipes underground. The latest I heard was that there may be some sort of 'warming stations' in the concourse areas for patrons, but I don't remember any of the details.
Yeah..maybe they could've heated the thing somehow with the trash burner.
Don't forget at least $125 million more (with practically assured cost overruns) and an almost guaranteed ugly design to incorporate such a roof structure. All this for a couple of cold days in April. No thank you. Plus, I am sure the the stadium operators would get "Miller Park disease" and close the roof at even the hint of rain, wind, or temperatures dipping below 60.
Metrodome, we miss you.
Cuddyer strokes a 2-run, bases loaded double in the bottom of the third. After 3 full, Cards 0, Twins 2.
Bass lifted with bases loaded and no outs in the 4th (on 1 GR double and 2 walks). Reyes coming in to relieve. Bass goes 3 innings, 3 hits, 3 BB, 2 K.
Sounds like the Nathan deal is official.
Basketball-Reference.com keeps track of "Loss Shares" a somewhat esoteric statistic (and I can't even find out how they calculate it). It's only been calculated since th 77-78 season. Anyway, the top two "leaders" in loss shares have played for the T-Wolves. Can you name them (without looking)?
Hint, neither player accumulated the majority of their loss shares with the Wolves.
I'll go with Mr. Feed My Family and Starbury.
Feed My Family is correct, he has the second most (actually tied for second), ever. Starbury is 18th. I see that the fourth player on the list was briefly with the Wolves, too.
Rickey Davis
The guy they traded Ricky for - Mr. Shimmy.
Sister Christian!!
I don't care whether it's true. I just wanted to take that line for a walk.
Mr. Shimmy is the correct answer!
And number 4 is Juwan Howard.

They had to cut it off.
Howard Sinker has a pretty good article today
There is a PowerPoint presentation that has been making the rounds in league offices and among ad buyers for the past six months.
Distributed by multiple networks, the full color presentation uses a series of bar graphs to bash everything about ESPN. It describes ESPN’s multiplatform strategy as a flawed concept. It calls ESPN’s marketing machine a myth. It says that a sports property’s TV ratings consistently decline on ABC and ESPN.
Tough weekend for my family and I. My father suffered a massive stroke on Saturday morning. Doctors weren't sure he'd even make it through the weekend, but being a tough guy, he's still hanging on. Unfortunately, CAT scans indicate the severity of his stroke will preclude any substantial recovery. Should he survive the week, it's into a nursing home, something he would abhor. He's 87.
Call your dads, everyone. Tell them you love them. (Grandfathers, too.)
I probably won't be offering up much in the way of commentary until I find a clearing in my head -- and heart. (Brian, I'll have to slag your musical choices some other time.)
Sorry to hear that, E-6. Best wishes to you and yours.
My family's thoughts and prayers are with your dad and your family at this difficult time.
Best wishes, E-6, to you and your family.
E-6: condolences and best wishes.
I promise to provide you with plenty o' slag-able material when you are ready to return.
sorry to hear that E-6. The zooomx family will say some prayer for you and yours. Hang in there!
E-6: A Nation turns its lonely eyes to you.
aw, E-6, we'll be praying for your whole family. That's a tough situation. Make sure you have a good support group there for you - it's a lot of work and stress on your own.
I just now saw this, E-6. You and your family are in my prayers.
Sorry to hear that E-6. Be well.
Thanks for the kind words, everyone. They mean a lot to me.
Dude. We are here for you.
Is anyone else getting a blackout message from MLB TV when they try to watch the Red Sox-As game? Does ESPN 2 have some exclusive right to broadcast the series? I can't imagine living in St. Paul would make me ineligible to view a Boston-Oakland contest played in Tokyo?
Must be a national blackout, like the Sunday Night Baseball games.
