Thankfully, they heard from Sheenie and me yesterday. I think 2007 will be the last year in which we get a refund.

Hey Will, I think we'll give the Mattress Factory a try for lunch tomorrow. Weather here in Omaha is supposed to be real nice, so it should make for a nice walk. The hotel's shuttle driver highly recommends the burgers there. He said it's owned by firefighters(?)

Dread Pirate Will Young replied on April 14, 2008 at 9:46:32 am

Yup, the owners are both firefighters (so my grandfather knows them and their fathers) and my cousin-in-law is the manager. If you see a stocky guy with a shaved head making the rounds, his name is Peter and tell him I sent you.

Rhubarb and Will- are you guys familiar with the upstream brewery in Omaha? I've enjoyed their ales and food on a number of trips through Omaha-

Rhubarb_Runner replied on April 14, 2008 at 2:42:30 pm

Yeah, I've eaten a the Upstream. I personally like Old Chicago, and I frequent Asian Mongolian BBQ as well when I'm in town. But when the weather is bad (which is ending soon, thank God), I end up downstairs at the Doubletree's restaurant. Well, their corn cowder is okay.

I totally got pwned on my withholding this year -- refunds coming from both Feds and State. Damnit!

Of course, the Mrs is delighted. I think the bones are already spent.

Scrubini Fixation, 2008. Gardy on Punto:

"A couple years ago, he wasn't starting, and he came along pretty good in this role," Gardenhire said. "Maybe this clears his mind a little bit, so he's not worried about going 0-for-3 every day, and he'll come back and be a great player. He already is to me because he's so valuable everywhere you play him."

Not good, not adequate, not a fine backup. Great.

By the way, Punto's "strong" start is based on six at bats. Six.

I hope you all got a good look at the amazing scoreboard in Kansas City. I did a lot of work on the software that runs it.

SBG replied on April 14, 2008 at 4:32:16 pm

I didn't get to see a game in the series, but thanks to bjhess, I got to see pictures of that amazing device!

For real? I'm interested - what kind of software environment does it run in?

kg2005 replied on April 14, 2008 at 5:08:25 pm

There are a lot of different interfaces involved in equipment like that. I work mostly with statistical programs that score the game and decide which stats are most relevent to the in-game situation.

Here's a funny story about one of our Dakstats computers in Minute Maid park.
