The Buffet Table

How much can they eat?

IP Hungry, Hungry Hippo
51.7 Livan Hernandez
50.7 Nick Blackburn
46.0 Boof Bonser
33.0 Scott Baker
23.7 Brian Bass

But what does the food taste like?

xFIP Hungry, Hungry Hippo
3.06 Scott Baker
4.41 Nick Blackburn
4.42 Boof Bonser
4.47 Livan Hernandez
4.85 Brian Bass

To a certain degree, Blackburn, Bonser, and Hernandez have all been approximately league average pitchers who have made every start and given the Twins innings. Baker's the closest thing they've had to an ace, but he's had plenty of trouble staying in the rotation. Some other notables:

The Kiddie Table
10.3 IP, 6.94 xFIP -- Francisco Liriano
8.3 IP, 3.58 xFIP -- Kevin Slowey
6.0 IP, 4.78 xFIP -- Glen Perkins

Slowey's had good peripherals so far and should be pretty darned good if his HR/FB regresses to the mean--hopefully sooner rather than later.

Eating Out
52.7 IP, 3.18 xFIP -- Johan Santana
52.0 IP, 4.82 xFIP -- Carlos Silva
25.7 IP, 5.37 xFIP -- Matt Garza

Garza's performance so far has been unspectacular to say the least. (Though I'm still trying to wrap my head around how Delmon has been hitting worse than Jason Tyner so far. I mean, yeah, I didn't expect the moon or the stars from Delmon, but really? Worse than TynyLF?)

Santana has the best xFIP in the NL to date and he's been eating innings.

Brian Bass is always on this list. Has he really been our 5th best pitcher? Or does xFIP not really apply to relievers like Reyes or Nathan

I think the xFIP table always contains the five pitchers who are in the "most innings eaten" table (to give an idea of the quality of innings eaten by the big innings-eaters).

Yeah, when he's pitched he's been "close" to an ace.

Baker: 3.06xFIP
Santana: 3.12xFIP
