You didn't want to pay attention to that work this afternoon, did you?
I got my gigantic bid package out for the job we're bidding around 11. My afternoon is completely free.
It's responsible employees like you what give us slackers a bad name, Andrew.
Don't worry. I only work about 3 hours a week. It's just usually all at one go.
You are well-trained for a State job, then.
quite the auspicious start so far
Rangers are stealing signs. 'Course, when the sign is "throw it down the middle", what would you expect?
Livan does not seem very hungry today.
"the throw gets away from Cuddyer"
Gardy, the genius
Hey, it's only four runs. That's no big deal for our offense, right? Right?
Our resident Man of Faith
Mauer on a roll, yet he's sitting out against a righty. Idiotic.
He needs a rest sometime. Might as well be today.
hindsight, it might as well have been last night
Delmon, this would be a really, really good time for you to hit your first home run as a Twin.
Or a bad time to hit into an inning ending double play.
Guess not. Oh, well. I still don't doubt his talent. I'm not sure exactly what he has a talent for doing, but I don't doubt that he has one.
He has a talent for getting his name in the lineup every day.
C'mon "Everyday" Delmon.
Let me get this straight...Padilla is a righty. So we sit Mauer & Kubel ?
WTF
This feels like a give up game.
Obviously, Gardy was just saving them for extras.
Radio guys gushing about Harris, saying how comfortable he looks at SS and that he's made some solid plays.
Still, I'm going to trust the data from last year more than I trust 2 innings...I don't like Harris at short.
still, if I were SS, I'd feel much more comfortable with a veteran 1B to throw to. Thanks muchly, Gardy.
Twins in today's lineup hitting better than .300 = 1
Rangers in the lineup hitting better than .300 = 4
Twins in today's lineup hitting less than .250 = 5
Rangers in the lineup hitting less than .250 = 2
w00t Gogo!
Gomez!
Good job, OKGo
what's the over/under on give-back runs top of the next inning?
I'll put it at 1/2.
See? We're half-way back already!
We're half-way
backbaked already!Maybe it just took Livan a little time to work up an appetite.
speaking of appetites, I'd best get Livan's K's caught up:

Livan should be able to handle the meat of the order.
Delmon, your talent could start making itself known just about any time now.
A word of warning - The "Loco Burrito" at El Rodeo on 14th and Euclid is a LOT of food. Wear sweatpants if possible.
As if the last game and a half haven't been depressing enough, here's a line from Will Carroll's ongoing chat:
Nor modern statistical analysis. This is no Moneyball team, no matter what you may hear elsewhere.
True or not, Carroll has an axe to grind with the Twins. He's friends with longtime trainer Dick Martin, who was unceremoniously shown the door a couple of years ago.
Didn't the Twins have the fewest DL games in the Majors while Martin was here?
Carroll also is pretty horrible in general. Or maybe Pete Rose was allowed back into baseball during that month I spent under a rock.
That's why Redmond's playing instead of Mauer--it's his tenth anniversary in the big leagues. You've got to celebrate anniversaries like that.
Where is everybody today? Usually we get a lot of chatter in these weekday afternoon games. I know this hasn't been the most thrilling game, but come on, guys. Let's get fired up around here.
I'm on deadline for a couple of marketing deliverables, including a byline article for a tech pub. I'm eating lunch now, so I'm taking a short break. Wendy's spicy chicken sandwich combo, side salad instead of fries, and a diet coke.
I was out golfing
shot an 82 on a par 36. I stink.
shot an 82 on a par 36
that's one tough hole!
Dazzle just hinted at a possible roster move after the game, and mentioned Everett. Back to the DL for the man with the golden arm?
Yep, he's headed to the DL. Trevor Plouffe as a replacement? Perhaps.
Gardy checks cupboard.
"Honey, could you run to the store and pick up a couple more middle infielders? We're almost out."
And some bathroom caulk, while you're at it.
Go-go Gone!
Gogo deep!
GOGO!
Unlike Cuddyer, Gomez appears to be a difference maker.
Cuddyer has been making a difference. In my opinion of his value.
I still think Cuddyer is not really healthy. But then, as noted above, the Twins don't really believe in modern medicine.
I'm not sure Cuddyer isn't still hurting either.
OKGO!!
Johan who ?
Prior to today's action:
Gomez 2008 WARP3 5.8, $395,000
T. Hunter 2008 WARP3 6.4 $18,000,000
In other words, Torii who?
Another chance
That's quite a cost-savings for the hometown team.
He-who-is-NOT-related-to-Will can really test my patience.
I'm not liking that trade much.
I doubt Delmon's talent.
He'll go on a tear post all-star break, The 1st half of the season will be a distant memory.
Did Livan not realize what was going on or what?
Had an inning caught between his teeth.
Well, that's it. Work becons, lunch is over, and I don't want to risk losing it. I'll check in a bit later.
A note on Carlos Gomez and his relative worth to other CFers.
Cargo's VORP, prior to today is 5.9 (will most assuredly go up a couple after today's effort, unless he gets about 10 more atbats and goes hitless). He's got 8 FRAR as well and a projected 5.8 WARP3. He'll be 23 on Dec. 4.
Jacoby Ellsbury, mentioned in possible Santana talks is at 14.0 VORP, second in the AL behind Josh Hamilton's 23.8. He's got 13 FRAR and projects to an 8.2 WARP3. He'll be 25 on 9/11.
Adam Jones, who was traded to Baltimore in the Eric Bedard deal and whose very name causes the boys at USSM to hyperventilate is hitting .258/.301/.381 for a 1.9 VORP. He's got 5 FRAR and a projected 3.6 WARP3. He'll be 23 on August 1.
Melky Cabrera, also mentioned in the Santana frenzy is hitting .253/.321/.407 for a VORP of 4.9. He's got 2 FRAR and a projected 3.9 WARP3. He'll be 24 on August 11.
Torii Hunter, he of the $90 million contract, is hitting .286/.344/.470. He's got 8 FRAR and a WARP3 of 6.4. He'll be 33 years old on July 18. Torii's had one home run in his last 148 plate appearances after hitting four in his first week as an Angel.
Two months doesn't make a season, much less a career. However, CarGo is holding up well when compared to pretty much everyone on this list.
Most important takeaway from all that: Ellsbury and Rhu_Ru have the same birthday.
Yep, and 9/11/01 was Ellsbury's 18th birthday, making him come of age on that horrific day.
My best friend in high school, her parents' anniversary is that same day.
my birthday is many years before Ellsbury's, thank you very much
Ellsbury may be the younger of the two, but Rhu_Ru's contract isn't as large, and he's a run production machine (re: last night's late inning trivia).
pfffttt. not much WPA in that, but I did what I could.
Okay, here's the plan: Monroe gets on, Redmond gets on, and Lamb hits a three-run homer to tie the game.
That plan's already shot.
It wasn't so much a plan as a hope against hope.
Okay, new plan: Lamb gets on, Casilla gets on, and Gomez hits a three-run homer to tie the game.
Better plan: Gomez gets on, too, and then Harris hits a grand slam to put the Twins ahead.
better plan, Harris also walks, and Cuddy gets the GS to begin resurrecting his season
Better still: Cuddyer gets on, and Morneau hits a grand slam.
Ah, well, the best laid plans of mice. At least the Twins are back in the game.
Ah, well, the best laid plans of mice.
+42
You almost snuck the Slartibartfast quote by me.
I hate it when a plan doesn't come together.
BOINK!
If you can't beat him, plunk him!
Please, Baseball Gods, let Cuddy do something here.
A big hit here would be nice.
Damn it, should have thrown out the rally cap.
At least we got the two back that were given up at the top of the inning, right?
