Top Ten Reasons to Attend SBG Convention 2008

In case you haven't heard, the SBG Nation is having a Convention on Saturday June 21, 2008. We are going to have a picnic around 2:00 at an as yet undetermined site and then head to the Twins game that night. Banjo and I are going to supply all the food and soft drinks and you can bring an adult beverage or three to enjoy. It promises to be a great time. We'll get $20 tickets and I'm asking for $5 a person ($7 for a family) for the picnic. Believe me, you'll make out on that $5 easily. We want you fully satisfied. This is not a money maker -- I'm pretty sure I'll lose on the thing. That's okay. We're there to have fun.

Anyway, in case you haven't committed yet, here's ten pretty good reasons to do so.

10. Discuss with ubelmann which is the best stat to use when evaluating pitchers, WINS or SAVES.

9. Tell Gleeman and Seth that deep down, you like their sites better than the WGOM.

8. Find out if you can catch my knuckler.

7. Live vicariously through Andrew.

6. Eat until you puke. (By that I mean eat a lot. We're not intending to serve botchulism.)

5. Laugh at the out-of-towners that can't make it.

4. Ask Will Young if he's related to Delmon.

3. Find out if "Lucy" and "BabySBG" are real persons or just figments of an old misanthrope's imagination.

2. Show off your taste in beer.

1. Have a good time with some of the best Twins fans out there.

You don't have to come to both events. If you can only make one or the other, that's fine. The main crew will be there for both. I promise that we'll have a good time. Go ahead and sign up in the comments of this post or send me an email at sbg at stickandballguy dot com. Bring friends, family, wives or girlfriends (I'm advising against both). I'm planning on buying tickets in about 9 days, so hurry up and commit yourself to the (SBG Nation) Event of the Year.

  • This may betray my interest in #2, but: are there any parks within walking distance of the Hiawatha line? Obviously Fort Snelling, but I haven't been over there in a LONG time and can't remember if the logistics would work out. Minnehaha might be busy on a weekend, but it's still pretty big. Little Corcoran is about 6-7 blocks from the Lake St station.

All I'm saying is, there may be a lot of beer (given this crowd), and if that can be parlayed into avoiding dome beverage prices without inducing risky driving, that would be pretty cool. Plus no dome parking!

    • SBG

That's a consideration for sure. The original idea is for Minnehaha Falls.

    • I guess something on a bus line that goes past the dome would work, too. I've taken one that goes through Falcon Heights/St. Anthony park area, through Prospect park, eventually down past the dome, I could check that if you want.

  • I will throw my hat into the ring.

Can we have a KUBELLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!! shouting contest?

  • I'll make reservations for two plus a toddler for the picnic (not the game though). My son and BabySBG can talk about whatever it is toddlers talk about at social functions.

  • the SBG Nation is having a Convention on Saturday 2008

Is the particular Saturday being kept secret, maybe from folks following links from AG's site?

All ten reasons send daggers into the souls of those who can't attend. Well, most of the reasons do, anyway.

  • A couple of things from me:

    1) I am most definitely in. I'll be the one in the Lew Ford jersey.

    2) Anyone that lives along I-35 from Des Moines to TC that needs a ride (GH?), let me know. I'll pick you up on my way up. Just let me know so Q has enough space for everyone.

    3) SBG, let me know if you need any help with anything. I'll do what I can from here.

    4) Do any citizens live near Fort Snelling? I'm thinking about doing the 5K Saturday morning and I was wondering if some lives closer than Chaska (where I'm staying with Q) where I could take a shower after?

  • It looks like I have a role at the convention, after all. I'll be one of the out-of-towners you'll be laughing at!

  • Family zooomx is still trying to make the trip happen. 2 adults and 2 kids (7 & 8). I will let you know as soon as I can SBG.

    BTW, I will probably be in my Hunter jersey in order to zing the boss a bit. Either that, or if I can get my hands on a Tony Batista jersey... that would be cool. ( ;

  • AMR

I'll have to talk things over with my wife. I should be a) in town and b) available that weekend.
Not sure if I'll bring kids or wife with. I'll be the only one to the game for sure.

SBG, wait for an e-mail confirmation from me.

Anyone good for a ride home to Brooklyn Park?

  • Dag...I will be out of town that weekend, and thus a laugh-worthy target.

  • crap!! I knew there was something else going on that day and I just figured it out. I have an alumni golf tourney that day in St. Cloud. Sorry citizens!

  • I'm thinking about attending but I'll be a gametime decision. Are the Twins tickets in a section of the park that will be sparse enough for me to find my way to sit with everyone if I end up purchasing my own last minute ticket?
