2nd Annual SBG Convention in Pictures
Posted by Andrew on Tuesday, June 24th, 2008 at 8:28 am
Hey everyone. Here are some pictures from this weekend's convention. I posted these in kind of a rush. I haven't had a chance to tweak them in Photoshop yet, so some of the pictures are a little dark. I'll re-post them when I have a chance to clean them up. Also, I know I have pictures of New Guy and Greenmachine somewhere too, so I'll make sure they get up.
Our picnic spot SBG snagged for us. It wasn't his first choice, but it turned out to be an excellent spot.
Banjo on the grill. The brats were excellent.
SBG's Babe Ruth throwback. He bought it at Yankee Stadium, so it's alright.
ubelmann in his Bobby Kielty shirt.
AMR's game-worn Julio DePaula jersey. I'll have to post a picture of me in my Lew Ford Jersey to complete the trifecta. (Two complete strangers complimented me on my jersey - one each at the picnic and baseball game)
Some of the best food I've had in a long time. Many thanks to Banjo and SBG for the meal.
Nick's friend Robby is a HUGE Gleeman fan. He was pretty excited to meet a guy who sits in his mom's basement own basement, thank you very much, in his PJs and writes about baseball
Will and ubelmann. I told you I had photographic evidence he exists. However, his avatar is completely misleading.
SBG and ubelmann. I will definitely have to lighten the faces and re-post this.
Will brought a birthday cake for his wife Sheenie and my birthday.
Rick Aguilera threw out the ceremonial first pitch on the day of his Twins HOF induction.
Conor Jackson grounded into a 6-4-3 DP in the 1st inning.
Will's cousin and everyone's favorite player. No matter how many times New Guy predicted the HR, it never came from Delmon.
Aaron and Banjo sharing their thoughts on the game
Seth and Will
Seth, Will, SBG, Aaron (Clockwise from lower left) That is a lot of blogging prowess in one spot.
UPDATES
Enjoying my birthday cake in my Lew Ford jersey. Thus completes the DePaula-Kielty-Ford triumverate of jerseys no one should really have.
Jon Marthaler, Robbie, some of Gleeman and Nick N.
Group Shot
Seated (left): I see BabySBG's head, so probably at least Lucy. I can't make out who's sitting next to them, though.
Standing (left): Algonad & Moss
Left bench: Moss Jr, Andrew' (GM's friend), GreenMachine, Banjo
Right bench: Robbie, AMR, New Guy
Standing (Right): Jon Marthaler, Gleeman, Nick N., SBG, Will, Seth
My trusty sidekick Q, with the Boss in the background
The elusive New Guy. It's like trying to capture Big Foot

You're right, Ubelmann looks nothing like his avatar. I, on the other hand, am a dead ringer for mine.
Thanks for the pics, Andrew, looking forward to seeing more.
I like the shot of Aggie throwing out the first pitch. Reminds me a bit of Robert Longo's work.
Actually, I'd like to see an entire game played with the players wearing suits and ties. You know, class it up a bit...
Cool idea. I could see Slowey doing a fine Robert Palmer on the mound

Now someone like Dennys or Boof in a suit might look a little less refined
A few other contributions to the photostream:
No pictures of me; that's a win for everybody!
Lush Life, boyos! What a pretty spot for the Convention.
I especially enjoyed the shot of Will telling some fish tale to fresh-faced ubelmann. "I once threw a curveball that broke thiiiiis far!"
clearly, ubes wasn't buying it. In fact, I think he was working out some equations right there on the picnic table during the story.
ubes knows that "breaking balls" don't break, they just slow down and gravity takes over. He definitely wouldn't have bought it.
You know how much I love it when you use xFIP? This much
awesome! thanks for sharing
That's a pretty awesome shot of morneau, with the ball about 6 inches before reaching his glove, and Jackson about a yard before the bag.
you think that was an awesome shot of Morneau, check out the second pic from my blog of about 2 years ago:

Thanks for the pics, I'm sorry I missed it but I was sailing on Lake Pepin. Hopefully I can make the convention!
That's an excellent action pic, alonzo, but it's obviously not Morneau. Who you trying to snow, huh?
high socks, tho. +a golden ticket for Charlie.
speaking of high socks, I loved the outfits in the Giants/Royals throwback game. Everyone in Negro League outfits, and the baggy uniforms and high socks were the cat's @ss.
Just goosing page views for the blog.
I should point out that I wore the Ruth jersey so that people would recognize me even if they hadn't met me before.
Minnehaha Falls is a GREAT spot for this event. There is playground equipment for kids, a waterfall 50 yards away and a beautiful picnic area protected by huge oak trees. Fantastic.
Thanks to all who came and enjoyed what was a truly fun day.
You put a lot of thought and effort into the weekend, SBG, and I'm sure it was appreciated. I'm going to make a serious effort to get up there for the next one.
It was a great time; kudos to Banjo on the excellent brats.
Sorry I didn't make it over to sit with you guys at the game. There didn't look to be any empty seats around you and we had a pretty good view as it was.
Check out some more Twins talk and extended interviews from Buscher, Bass and Bonser during their day off at Kent Hrbek's Bass Fishing Classic. It's all on "Sports on Demand" on myfox9.com:

Looks like you guys had a great time. In a few years I will be up there more often and maybe join you.

No one will ever have photographic images of my face.
I'm sneaky!
