BushSheets vs. Slowey
The older I get, the faster time seems to go by. I can hardly believe that we're already to the second half of the season.
Double play rates for Twins hitters (as of June 23rd):
3-10, 30% -- Tolbert
3-13, 23% -- Punto
2-10, 20% -- Redmond
10-52, 19% -- Delmon
11-60, 18% -- Mauer
13-78, 17% -- Morneau
7-50, 14% -- Harris
7-52, 14% -- Cuddyer
4-36, 11% -- Lamb
2-21, 10% -- Casilla
3-43, 7% -- Gomez
1-16, 6% -- Everett
3-51, 6% -- Kubel
1-20, 5% -- Monroe
0-5, 0% -- Buscher
0-4, 0% -- Macri

I am glad this is the last time the Twins will play a NL team until October
Is that a prediction?
This will be the first time I've watched the entire game live for a while, so I'll hang out with you guys for a while.
aw man, tough luck there
I hate stealing with Mauer at the plate. He walks so frequently that the runner at first will often get 2nd base for free.
On the other hand, Mauer hits so frequently that by putting the runner in motion he can often gain an extra base. Plus, Mauer hits the ball on the ground to the right side a lot, so sending the runner can avoid a DP when the ball's hit on the ground.
But on the other other hand, it opens the door for Mauer to line into a DP.
2 innings, 2 double plays. ubes might have set the tone for the day
Slowey looking pretty good today. Painting the corner, working both sides of the plate.
we are on pace for a 100 minute game
We've seen 18 batters in 3 innings
Rhu_Ru is slacking off today.
yes indeed.
Getting in touch with your inner Dude. It's all good.
MLB Gameday having its typical one-batter paralysis again today.
afternoon gents.
MEEEEEEAAATTTTTTT!!!!!
Black Jack all get off my lawn with the Wisco. drivers- Hi-larious
awesome pitch to Prince. take a seat!
Kevin really has no out pitch. This message brought you by Benefiber.
Sheets is just pumping in those nasty curveballs for strikes.
Canadian Club time?
I could use one right now. A little hair of the dog.
red wine hangover? Those are the worst in my opinion.
It's probably been a decade since it passed my lips, but I vote Jagermiester as the worst.
Yeah, two bottles last night, a cabernet and a Smoking Loon pinot noir. Good stuff, but we've become lightweights in our old age.
Jagermeister gives a pussy's hangover, E-6. Real men suffer from the Weed. (or rather, dumb high school kids)
Ah, right in Justin's wheelhouse and he missed it
Kubel will come through.
Nice call, sir
Just like I drew it up.
Rally time? I vote yes.
Hrm, Delmon + 1st pitch = no rally.
Dude abides
Abide with me...
Delmon Young == First Pitch Swinging
I love Slowey's non-out pitch
Slow Ride takin' it easy.
I'm starting to think that Slowey is in the running for staff ace this year.
oh man, thats a great play on defense
Yeah, and I think a good call
Talk about backing up the play. Sheesh.
Nuts and bolts.
The Silence of the Lamb.
Sheets is filthy.
Gogo gadget triple! w00t!
Gogomez! Carlos triples to left!
And GoGo soils Sheets.
Laddie!
Laddie!, GOGO.Twice now we've had clutch hits and then the next batter doesn't let the crowd sit down before ending the momentum
Hard to sustain a rally against a pitcher like Sheets.
OkGO!
Bremmer is stridently dull.
I would take bremmer over the dazz- I just don't have $$$ for Mlb Tv.
Dick and Dazz: Like comparing rotten apples and rotten oranges.
Sundays are the only games on free TV in the Metro, so my Dick'n'Bert intake is once a week, at most.
what's so wrong with fermenting fruit, E-6? :-)
Dick Bremer has his moron hat on today.
Why do are peanuts in Cracker Jacks packages always on the bottom
2 people from small market teams never get voted onto the All Star team
I just kind of thought that was the default setting for Dick. Linds comments all the time that Dick might be the most moronic person she's ever had to listen to for an extended period of time.
I usually listen to Gordo and Dazzle musings, so Im not used to the comical stylings of the TV crew
Still, one must occasionally count blessings. I watched the Sox-Cubs game on WGN Friday with the Hawk in the booth.
on purpose?
Nice.
Keb Slo be money.
Keb Slo. I like that.
+ 1 hat.
someone will have to explain 'Keb Slo' to me
There's a (sort of) blues musician who goes by the moniker Keb' Mo. His real name is Kevin Moore.
Slowey is teh animal
Anyone out there have a good curried chicken recipe? I'm looking for something a little different tonight-
Like a Thai curry? Indian? Jamaican...
I was thinking indian, but any will do- a wild hair if you will.
Shit. I tried calling my sister (not home) who has a fab recipe for baked curry chix. Serves it with a basmati pilaf with golden raisins, lemon zest, cilantro, scallions, and slivered almonds. Dee-lish.
I'll take it whenever you get it- always in the mood to try something different- I think I found tonight's- meal coconut milk curry chicken - we'll see how that turns out.
I have a rep-ih-see for a Thai grilled chicken dish that is teh bomb, meat.
works best with strips o' breast meat, but I've done it w/whole (boneless, skinless) breasts too; and it would work great with boneless/skinless thigh meat as well. And probably work well with bone-in, skin-on pieces for that matter.
Marinade:
5 Tbsp (or more) Fish sauce
1/4 c. (packed) brown sugar
1/4 c. coconut milk
2.5 Tbsp lime juice (uh, juice of one large/two small limes?)
2 Tbsp chinese five-spice powder (or make your own; recipes abound)
2 Tbsp soy sauce
1 Tbsp crushed red (hot) peppers)
1.25 Tbsp curry powder (we usually use something like Madras curry powder)
Mix well and pour over 4-5 lbs chicken for at least 2 hours or up to overnight. We usually put it in 2 ziplocks overnight. Grill or broil chicken (I usually grill using a grill basket) as desired. Serve with dipping sauce, basmati or jasmine rice and a salad.
Dipping sauce:
1.5 c. rice wine vinegar
3/4 c. + 2 Tbsp sugar
2 Tbsp minced/crushed garlic
1 Tbsp plus 1 tsp crushed red pepper (really).
Let sauce stand for at least 3 hours to blend flavors.
this recipe is Mrs S's standby to serve to guests during the summer. It's not really all that Thai (other than the fish sauce). but it be good.
Call tech support, I'm sure somebody in Bangalore has one.
+1 thank you, come again
Dang it. Somebody turn the fans on high.
FIRST PITCH!!!!
DELMOOOOOOON!!!!
Delmon!
DELMON

nice one, dw.
I'm.... I'm.... he.... but.... WTF? DEEEEELLLLLMMMMOOOONNNN!!!!
REPENT!
Delmon DOES strike twice!
Delmon, I take back all the nasty things I've said about you. At least 'till tomorrow.
Hehe. Somebody turned the fans on high. :)
*busy filling out All-Star ballots*
oh baby!
FTLT - Do you live in Buffalo, NY?
I do indeed
I've been trying to get back to beefalo ever since I left- I love that town- and the bars in that town (not near chippewa)
I live in allentown myself. Did you go to school here?
Yeah, My wife and I both got our masters at UB- I went for fine art- she was in english- we lived all over the elmwood area- the final place was across the parking lot from Big ORbit gallery- right up the street from the essex street pub- that wasn't really a good thing- I drank a load of 2$ 22oz. icehouse that year- the old pink was one of my haunts too. good times in beefalo.
Essex just reopened. They were closed for a while. The Big Orbit area itself is gentrifying quite nicely right now. One of my friends just bought a house on that street.
I am actually all done with school and looking at moving to Minneapolis in the winter.
The rust belt cities all have their charms, I miss the art community in Buffalo, and I see now that the Min. non profit Artspace has opened a new residence / gallery in Buffalo. What's the name of the candy shop on Main street across from the south campus of UB? We held seminars there for 2 years- just nothing like that place here in NM- oh well.
Parkside candy, perhaps? That shop is actually featured in "The Natural" as well. Buffalo is a really great city, as are most rust belt cities. A grain company in Minneapolis actually just bought a bunch of the old grain mills on the water front. For all of the years that we were trying to tear them down we are now going to be using them, of for all things, grain.
It is funny that you say you miss the art community in Buffalo... My last girlfriend if from Minneapolis originally, she just moved back, and she tells me about what a better art city Minneapolis is... I get a kick out of that.
better for who? If you're matthew barney you certainly think that Minneapolis, and the walker >>>>> Buffalo- but as an artist of no note I feel that the community in Buffalo is willing to support experimental and conceptual art for established and emerging artists- big orbit, artspace, (the now closed Formula), CEPA, Hallwalls, Squeaky Wheel, Ron Ehmke's house (for non-productive performance art), soundlab, man the list goes on and on- Minneapolis has great art, but the vibe for young up and comers is different in Buffalo-- not to rant too much here- Did you go to UB, and what for?
I started off at UB but I ended up transferring to Buffalo State after a while. I started off in journalism and kind of had the Bill Simmons revelation that I will never get to write for a sports section, then Gleeman actually got me to thinking that I don't need to go to college to be a writer.
At the point I got a business degree and now run the Buffalo operations of SPoT Coffee.
Though, as I mentioned before, I am thinking about moving out to Minneapolis. The idea of having to watch Juan Rincon in Buffalo now kills me. I went to a Bisons game last night and just prayed that he wasn't going to pitch.
dude- I feel for ya- I was there in the Coco Crisp era of the Bisons- was fun to watch him develop into a player but felt robbed when the Indians fleeced the team in september-
I had a number of good friends who went to Buff State- most of them in the art conservation program-
Let's pick up this Buffalo chat another time. I am off to Gabriel's Gate to have some drinks. Have a fine afternoon, go Bills?
Man I miss that place too- have a good afternoon-
best wings in town.
FTLT-what's your connection to the Twins and/or Minny?
Game 7 in '91. I was six years old and became a fan for life. I fly to Minn once a year for a series and I go to Toronto and Cleveland for a series a year as well.
Awesome.
Gotta work for something, right? Though it would just be cheaper to love in Minn.
I loved the trip to TO to see the twins play- and if they play the Pirates PNC is a good place to see a ball game-
Slowey has not backed down to the Prince today. He's challenged him every time.
Slowey is getting lucky with these strikeouts. He still doesnt have an out pitch
:p
Slowey sitting them down today.
+6 escargot (with garlic butter)
Waiter, there's snails on her plate!
all right Lamb!
Slowey's only thrown 85 pitches, and 60 of them have been strikes. That is dealing.
71%
0% out pitches
Super effort by Hart. But Im glad that goes in our favor
Laddie! (With some help from Hart)
Jesus John, did he catch the ball? did the ball get away? did we buy a jimmy john sub? wtf.
he dove, caught it, but when Hart hit the ground, the ball popped out
I can see how that would be a bit difficult to describe but the call was SO unintelligible it was like a monkey translating chinese into english.
Meat, I do. I responded a bit higher above but I was not sure if you would get it.
I did, and I did.
hee hee.
I've grown to like Gordo for just that sort of unintended comedy gold.
You notice what happens when Punto starts and when he doesn't? 'Nuff said.
After what Souhan said in the paper recently about Gardy being brilliant maybe Gardy too will realize that we loose with Punto in the line up
5 2-out RBIs today
Bring out Kevin. Long live the king.
I don't know if Weeks went around on that, but I appreciate the strike call on the appeal.
I think we have a new staff ace
with no out pitch.
I love to hear the loud roar of the crowd
Nice gamescore for KS today; have to see how ESPN scores it.
Sal Mineo has a kid that plays baseball?
who's got the matches?
Slowey=pwnasaur
Keb Slo with the complete game shutout. Outstanding outing.
9 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 8 K.
Y'all come back now.
I APPROVE!
I love it- 4 series wins in a row, a long winning streak, I just love it.
I love the complete game. That has to be a game score in the high 70's/low 80's right?
Oh yeah, 80s for sure, with the high Ks/no BB/3 hits
Isn't that five? Twins win 2 of 3 from Brew Crew to bookend three straight sweeps.
true- excellent catch-
Fantastic outing by Keb' Slo.
TWINS WIN!
If this Slowey kid ever develops an out pitch, he might actually be a decent pitcher some day. :)
Twins living right, right now. They will miss Kenny Rogers and C.C. Sabathia in the next week. They might even miss Justin Verlander if the Tigers don't skip their fifth starter.
Thats if CC is still playing in Cleveland-
All five RBIs with two outs, did somebody say? Love it! Also love seeing the guys who got 'em get 'em. Mark my words, we'll grow to love Delmon.
Boy, it'd sure nice if he'd join the hit parade. As a power-pop act, that is.
Game Score of 89, tied with James Shields' 4.27.08 for 5th best of the season so far in the AL, behind Lester's no-hitter, Shields and Garza's one-hitters, and Cliff Lee's 4.24.08 shutout.
when was the last time a Twins pitcher had a GS that high?
Bakers near perfecto? a Johan 15k start?
Yeah, Baker last year had a 93 in that game, and Johan's 17k game against the Mets was a 95 - Johan tied with Verlander for second-highest and Baker tied at 5th highest with Buchholz's no-hitter in the AL in 2007.
