Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel “Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me)”

A dandy pop confection from the UK, 1975. Top of the Pops.

  • what a catchy song
    ohhhh la la la

  • I like the song but it bothers me when people smile when they play music. I think it reminds me too much of Up With People or the Osmonds or something.

    • E-6

Well, it's not like the song is called "Make Me Frown." Wink Seriously, I think I do know what you're saying. Still, it is a great little number, nonetheless. Love that flamenco style guitar solo.

  • I'd never heard of Steve Harley before. Apparently, this appearance was populated by session musicians because his entire band had quit.

"In a television interview recorded in 2002, Steve Harley described how the lyrics are vindictively directed at the former band members, whom he felt had abandoned him – a fact not obvious in the apparently happy chorus."
