Semi-Hilarious ASG Note

Posted by ubelmann on Wednesday, July 16th, 2008 at 9:01 pm

Even in the All-Star Game, Joe Nathan managed to get a lower leverage situation than he probably deserved. Though it was partially a matter of the game being a bit strange, Joe Nathan had the lowest leverage appearance of all 23 pitchers who appeared in the game.

Other notes:

- Uggla had a ridiculous -.634 WPA which would have been much, much lower if you throw his defense into the mix.

- J.D. Drew had the highest WPA of all players and got the MVP award--coincidence?

- Amongst pitchers, George Sherrill had the highest WPA, with Aaron Cook just a shade behind.

- Guzman kind of gets shafted with a -.292 WPA since he had a couple nice plays in the field. If you accounted for defense, there would likely be a significant chunk of Cook's WPA that went to position players, including Guzy.

Don't worry, he'll be back. The light is on at the WGOM (see photo above).
