Game 101: Twins at 1927 Yankees

Perkins vs. Mussina
Coming off of a 2-day break, the Twins head into their LAST GAME EVER AT YANKEE STADIUM (EVER!!!!1oneone!!!1111!!!), with Perkins and his 4.80 xFIP facing off against a borderline (or better) Hall-of-Fame candidate in Mike Mussina, sporting a 3.67 xFIP so far this year.
But! The Twins' two-day break will hopefully allow them to overcome those odds.

They should be all nice and rested up right?
At least today I've got work to fall back on if the game goes belly up.
Coming off of a 2-day break...
Nice.
Hi everybody!
Norm!
Hi Pirate Will!
crikey...this fawning over Yankee Stadium on the TV is a bit rediculous
But this is the last season that the Yankees will play in old Yankee stadium. The last. ever.
A groundout... of DESTINY.
Didn't know there was a day game. Good to know. Howdy all.
snappy inning for Perkins
That ground out by Mike Lamb to Robinson Cano was not all fun and games.
Not like it used to be.

Our line up today begs the question: Are we trying to punt this game?
Red Dawg is in because its a day after night game
Justin probably asked for the day off from the field, Lamb is the only backup
Oh, I get the reasons, but if our regulars can't get it done against the Yanks I have little faith that Lamb / Punto / Harris can do it. Stranger things have happened.
On the positive side Gomez is no longer batting lead off.
Well, Span's leading off, with Gomez in 9th again, so we're at least trying to look smart out there.
A Lamb sighting.
There went the no hitter.
Hi everybody!
(cue: "Hi Dr. Nick!")
Hi Punto-loving Nick!
wassup?!?
Nick, I didn't know you were a doctor. What field?
Simpsonology.
What about Simpsonomy?
Solid AB for Gomez.
Had it been Delmon, it would have qualified for "UNO!"
dang, tough luck for Span on that almost hit
Why do we insist on batting this bum leadoff!?!?
Pony Boy looks sharp.
This game is percolating right along.
Andrew, are you gonna stand for that pun?
Wow, Gladden sounds incredibly hungover today.
He did wake up in the city that never sleeps.
DazzL sounds so sedate, he must have popped a lude this morning.
It seems like FSN always televises Wednesday afternoon games, but never Thursday afternoon games. I wonder if there's a reason for this.
The only one my friends and I have come up with is that Thursdays are Senior Citizen's days, so maybe keeping them off the air on Thursdays is designed to
encourageforce them to come to the game instead of watching it on their TV.its the last game at yankee stadium ever
it better be on tv
I didn't notice it. I actually started humming Mary J. Blige. At least he didn't say perkolating.
I can not get Gameday to work today. Anybody else having problems with it?
I'm having some problems with the WGOM...
Me too. Lot of 500 Errors today
I don't know what's going on, but I've disabled a few features to see if it will work better.
It's like being on dial-up again.
Hopefully, the move to AJAXed inline comments will help.
last night, Gordo said "Get some EXTRA rest tonight, its a day game tomorrow"
"
Dazzle then said " PFFT ya right
I chuckled
I wonder if that hit by Lamb was fun or is that getting old, too? A quick check of his line this year indicates that it can't possibly be getting old.
Way to party like it's 2007, Punto...
Looks like Casilla got a case of the 2007's also.
Now if Mike Lamb would just come down with a case, we'd be alright.
Laddie with a bone-head.
There is no excuse for not knowing how many outs there are. Frack.
what happened? did Laddie throw the ball into the stands for a souvenir?
Tailor-made DP he gets the force at 2nd and starts trotting off the field like there were 3 outs. Runs Like a Field Plow Molina was the batter. Stooooooopid.
Well that sucked
Those won't show up as unearned runs because you can't assume the DP, but those are not Perkins' fault.
Again, as I mentioned in the CoC yesterday - it seems odd that the Twins can't win at Yankee Stadium since 2001. If only we could figure out something that changed in the organization. Something that might have an impact on the the players' focus and preparation.
So what was TK's record at Yankee Stadium, Will?
Tom Kelly in Yankee Stadium: 34-46 (.425)
Tom Kelly in all other games (postseason excluded):1106-1198 (.480)
Ron Gardenhire in Yankee Stadium: 3-19 (.136)
Ron Gardenhire everywhere else: 586-463 (.559)
TK's teams struggled in Yankee Stadium, but he could pretty consistently at least steal a game or two. Plus, the talent divide was much, MUCH, MUCH100 greater during the late 90s than at any point during the Gardy Era.
And they just look terrible, too. Terrible, awful. Every single time.
The only thing I can think of as being a constant is that the manager is Ron Gardenhire and I can't believe you mean that.
What a crummy defensive sequence.
These double plays are killing me a little.
I ride home for lunch and when I get here I see Captain America come through again. D'oh
Perkins has been really efficient. It's just killer to see him lose two runs on that mistake last inning.
Fuck.
ditto.
I'm Audi.
And the wheels fall off the bus.
I hate the f'in Yankees
This is just ridiculous. We can't beat the Yankees in New York to save our lives.
We can't stop looking at the pinstripes. /abagnale
Don't forget, we also couldn't beat the Red Sox at Fenway.
Not this year. But, we've handled them okay in years past.
Yeah really. We've had baserunners, but no rallies.
how bout a run or 5
just to make things palatable
White Sox tied 3-3 early. Hopefully we can hold steady. Although Millwood apparantly out with some injury after 1.2 innings.
A throw got by Jeter? No way. I don't believe it. Just. Not. True.
Mike Lamb: "Baseball is fun again!"
Yeah, decent game by Lamb.
I hope Bobby Abreu retires
or moves to the National League again
