Light Rail vs. Fausto
I don't really know how healthy Fausto is, and neither does anyone in the media. We'll find out, I guess.

I like the Goethe shout out too.
New Guy replied on July 26, 2008 at 5:30:37 pm
I would have gone with Marlowe, but I suppose that's just what I studied.
Yickit replied on July 26, 2008 at 5:43:34 pm
The terror of him who prowls by night, the stern scourge of one
who is profligate, both a Hercules, son of Jove, and a bird of prey
upon the rough brigand, is encased in an urn. Rejoice, ye sons of
wickedness; mourn, unoffending one, with hair in disorder over
your pitiable neck. The light of officialdom, the glory of the wor-
shipful law, lies dead.
It has a nice ring to it.
New Britain Bo replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:40:00 pm
Almost cut my hair
It happened just the other day
It was getting kind of long
I could have said it was in my way
But I didn't and I wonder why
I feel like letting my freak flag fly
And I feel like I owe it to someone
brianS replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:46:49 pm
Marlowe wrote that? Damn. Mebbe I'll have to go back and read his Faust.
davidwatts replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:00:29 pm
lets cast off those loss into the fire
tonight we get a win
brianS replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:09:25 pm
A little Spandemonium to start off.
nibbish replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:09:40 pm
So, Span is a touch better as a leadoff guy?
Yickit replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:10:25 pm
at least a tad.
brianS replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:11:07 pm
more walks that Ks so far in this abbreviated season for Mephistopheles.
whaaat? Casey Blake traded to the Dogggers? Did I hear Gordo correctly? That means we will go undefeated the rest of the year against the Tribe, right?
brianS replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:13:30 pm
yep
brianS replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:14:27 pm
"Progressive Field"
ick. Jacobs Field, pweese.
brianS replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:15:55 pm
and the best part: the Indians get Carlos Santana back for Blake.

davidwatts replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:17:16 pm

davidwatts replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:25:14 pm
6 runs!!!!
nibbish replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:25:51 pm
Ah, Dick... I suppose in some alternate universe it COULD be that we fed off the momentum from last night's 9th inning.
...in this one, it's mostly because Fausto loaded the bases with walks and has thrown like 90 pitches this inning.
socaltwinsfan replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:36:28 pm
The Twins have scored eight runs in the two innings not pitched by Cliff Lee in this series.
brianS replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:26:33 pm
See what happens when you don't have the leadoff hitter bunt?
nibbish replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:27:30 pm
Heresy! The leadoff hitter must bunt!
New Guy replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:27:10 pm
Wait, what is this? What does it mean when the Twins have more runs than the other team? I don't understand what's going on right now.
E-6 replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:28:15 pm
After getting skunked in Baker's last start, the offense owed him big time. Go Light Rail!
nibbish replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:29:09 pm
I had never noticed that they cut Rincon out of that commercial.
E-6 replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:31:37 pm
Who's Rincon?
nibbish replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:35:33 pm
It helps with the closure. Now the healing can start.
Yickit replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:37:57 pm
He might make it into this game.
nibbish replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:59:32 pm
Looking more likely every time Buscher bats.
New Guy replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:31:41 pm
As poorly as Carmona pitched in that first inning, the important thing is that nobody got hurt.
davidwatts replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:32:28 pm
dang...40 pitches for Carmona that inning
brianS replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:33:20 pm
at least he was efficient with his walks.
nibbish replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:33:45 pm
Very. No runners left on base.
brianS replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:32:32 pm
I'm telling you, the Blake Removal Factor cannot be overstated.
E-6 replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:36:30 pm
I was thinking the same thing, doc.
New Guy replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:39:21 pm
I was at a party last night with Blake's cousin. He was telling everybody that Blake was getting traded and that it would be announced today, but he thought it was going to be to the Twins.
brianS replied on July 26, 2008 at 7:03:59 pm
it is just as well. Bringing him to the Twins would be like bringing matter and anti-matter together.
nibbish replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:32:45 pm
You know how I can tell that Harris isn't playing today?
uncledoj replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:33:36 pm
I think I can
socaltwinsfan replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:32:56 pm
Great start. Baker needs to hold them in check in the first, so the Indians don't start thinking about a big comeback. Gotta keep them down.
brianS replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:36:08 pm
uncledoj replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:37:24 pm
alright, maybe I'm an idiot but someone needs to explain to me Baker's "light rail" nickname
brianS replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:44:58 pm
last year in a Baker start, twayn made some crack about him being Walter Johnson. E-6 responded with "`Big Train'? More like `Light Rail'".
the rest is history.
uncledoj replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:45:29 pm
perfect
nibbish replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:38:29 pm
Wha...?? I thought it was in Bremer's contract that he wasn't allowed to make good points.
Doesn't he realize that Gomez is SPEEDY??
socaltwinsfan replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:47:18 pm
The Indians' radio play-by-play guy has to be the worst in the majors. The guy was literally screaming throughout the first inning yesterday. Very, very annoying.
brianS replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:48:16 pm
nibbish replied on July 26, 2008 at 6:49:45 pm
So Baker isn't setting himself apart from the rest of the staff??
This comes as news to me.

I've got Bender's Big Score going, so a Slurms McKenzie greeting seemed about right. I need to check out the new one one of these days.
So good to have Futurama back.
cheaptoy replied on July 26, 2008 at 7:01:00 pm
Is it fairly safe to say that Carmona is somewhat rusty?
nibbish replied on July 26, 2008 at 7:03:49 pm
Seems likely.
uncledoj replied on July 26, 2008 at 7:04:45 pm
I would venture to say that that may be a possibility

meat replied on July 26, 2008 at 7:22:35 pm
Is NBB still in the house? I have a Q about how you cooked your lamb last night
New Britain Bo replied on July 26, 2008 at 7:24:40 pm
Fresh rosemary cut up fine, pressed into the chops, plus some Kosher salt. Cook fast on the hot part of the grill, then move off to the warm part to settle in. NBBW likes it medium, me rare.
meat replied on July 26, 2008 at 7:27:57 pm
I've never gone after the lamb chop before, I assume that rare means you can treat it like a steak? I've heard alot about austrailian lamb being excellent and cheep and am interested in giving it a shot.
meat replied on July 26, 2008 at 7:31:36 pm
I should ask as well, how does the texture compare to other kinds of meat?
brianS replied on July 26, 2008 at 7:38:07 pm
tender, steak-like texture, in my experience. shoulder chops are chewier.
New Britain Bo replied on July 26, 2008 at 7:31:41 pm
Aussie chops are primo, also New Z. Only problem is the wife is worried about the fat content, so gatta ratchet back to salad nacht afterwards.
New Britain Bo replied on July 26, 2008 at 7:29:31 pm
Side dish of small Yukon Potatoes Casino, boiled then tossed with rosemary, butter, and Greek yogurt (2%).
brianS replied on July 26, 2008 at 7:36:57 pm
hrmmm. I don't know from Potatoes Casino. Interesting. How much yogurt and butter? Do you peel the taters after boiling? quarter them? leave 'em whole?
New Britain Bo replied on July 26, 2008 at 7:42:42 pm
With the lil potatoes, no peeling. Pat o' butter, spoonful of yoghurt, cut 'em up while tossing. You, know, Casino.
brianS replied on July 26, 2008 at 8:05:34 pm
uhhhh, no.
E-6 replied on July 26, 2008 at 7:31:16 pm

twayn replied on July 26, 2008 at 7:31:42 pm
I think herbs were involved.
twayn replied on July 26, 2008 at 7:32:56 pm
Yikes, 9 to nothing? Looks like the Indians have us just where they want us.
New Britain Bo replied on July 26, 2008 at 7:35:27 pm
Yeah, I don't like this. Mebbe time for the Rally Kap.
nibbish replied on July 26, 2008 at 7:39:59 pm
Baker's pitching, so look for Bass to give up 10 runs in the 8th.
Yickit replied on July 26, 2008 at 7:40:14 pm
We have to be careful not to jinx the lead!
meat replied on July 26, 2008 at 7:34:44 pm

davidwatts replied on July 26, 2008 at 7:36:24 pm

davidwatts replied on July 26, 2008 at 7:41:53 pm

New Britain Bo replied on July 26, 2008 at 7:48:55 pm
In-laws out here earlier this week. A little worried that you'd make the chix call and they wouldn't get it. I told them I could ask you but they didn't like that idear at all.
meat replied on July 26, 2008 at 7:45:19 pm
not as loud on the Indians broadcast. At first I thought it was a rowdy fan heckling.
cheaptoy replied on July 26, 2008 at 8:06:14 pm
I really wanted to throw up a picture of Randy Quaid in Major League II for this one, but I couldn't find one for the life of me.

Now if he could only work on keeping that pitch count a little lower!
twayn replied on July 26, 2008 at 8:10:11 pm
I never gave up on Baker, either. His minor league numbers were just too good to believe he would fail.
