But Livan is 8-1 at home!!
With a 3.91 ERA in the Dome. And Floyd has a 5.29 ERA on the road. But none of those numbers comfort me.
Don't deny the power of the vest!
#1 #1 #1 #1
OK, so it's not super likely with Mr. Munchy on the mound, but let's do this thing!
Belly up, Livan. And bring your appetite.
speaking of food
I am eating some lunch leftovers. Boy did I miss the mark on this
I tried to make sesame orange chicken and rice, but I think I got the breading wrong on the chicken, and my orange sauce tastes like....orange!
live and learn. I'll probably try it again some other time.
I've been down in Anderson, IN since Monday, and we've been hitting up a pretty tasty dive near my hotel. Had one of the best patty melts I've ever had tonight. The only shitty part is I was drinking Bud the past three nights, though it tastes frickin awesome after spending 12-14 hours in a damn dairy plant.
I loooooooove a great patty melt. There is a place in town called Blodines (its a 50's theme cafe) and... WOW best. patty melt. I've ever tasted.
It really is a great sandwhich. It ranks up there with reubens for me when it comes to judging restaurants.
Im not much of a Rueben fan
but, a lot of restaurants will use Kraft cheese on thier melts, cause its cheap. Buts thats not real cheese, its processed something or other. Real patty melts will use melting cheeses and fresh meat
I agree. Kraft cheese on a patty melt (or anything, really) is pretty wrong. This one was 1/3 pound of freshly shaped beef with onions and swiss on it served on rye.
A good Rueben is food of kings. In total agreement that it's the sign of a great deli/diner/cafe.
Great Dane in Madison, WI. Great reuben. They make their sauerkraut using their ESB. Plus, they have excellent beers to wash it down.
One the best I've had was at the Berghoff in Chicago. Lotsa lean corned beef, great caraway rye, and just the right amount of kraut. Good beer selection, too. Locally, I like Whitey's in NE MPLS, but I'm always looking for a challenger.
My pasta salad now seems inadequate.
*sigh*
Wow. Cleveland already up 5-0 on Detroit in the 3rd inning.
They're eager to get a shot at Farnsworth.
go Tribe!
8-1 in the 3rd inning now
yes!

Gardy on the radio: Punto is "the most logical choice" to bat second. Ahh, it's the good old times again.
/pointless lineup complaints
Obviously Gardy hates winning. Hence, Punto is the logical choice to bat second. QED
I would rather have Punto at 2B than Harris
Gardy not the only one with "batting order = fielding position" disease
So, who should be batting second?
I almost thought Young made some logical sense (I'd like to see how he hits with a little lineup protection), but I've been told that's lunacy.
...and I guess I'd sooner see Harris at second base, with Punto at short, but whatever.
I'd just bump everybody up. Punto has had a good streak very recently, but I expect his OBP will mostly go down. Why put a mediocre or low-OBP guy above your best hitters?
Other than Mauer & Morneau, the Twins don't really have anything but mediocre/low OBP guys (or, at least, none without the dreaded S3 clouding their numbers).
Your idea makes sense.
That's what Gleeman advocates.
Q
Chomp chomp WHOOPS
mlb.tv didn't go to the game until the middle of the AJP at-bat. I saw their "Keep Watching" ad about 30 times.
Why does it seem like the only games I get to watch lately are Livan starts??
I don't get it, I thought Livan was supposed to be amazing at home.
Nobody said he would pitch a shutout.
It's only the first, let him eat some innings and get a 15-hit, 6-run complete game.
Only if it's a 13 inning complete game.
He could totally do it, it would be the 10th inning, he'd have 130 pitches, and he'd just look at Gardy and say "you're not taking me out of this game".
Why do I have the feeling that Livan attends a non-dominational church.
Gameday on Livan's pitches this AB.
Fastball, 84 mph
Changeup, 83 mph
I love when that happens. Its not a Livan start until he confuses Gameday.
Wow, that was one hell of a throw by Mauer.
What exactly happened to Ramirez there? He's a pretty speedy guy, and it didn't look like he got that bad a jump. I know Mauer's good, but he was beat by a mile.
ready...aim..Mauer!
HE GOT SMOTE!
'Smote' works out great with with the jawbone of an ass, but I guess a bat works also.
Is it too early to start the GAVIN FLOYD'S THROWING A PERFECT GAME jinxing?
I think you have to go all the way through the lineup at least once first.
I didn't want to say anything...but I'm just sayin'
Harris has the approximate range of a slug.
we need an out
and again.
Secret Confessions
Here in this Norisstown, PA hotel, have GameDay and WGOM fired up, but also secretly watching 'Maid of Manhattan', featuring JLo and not-yet-Voldemort-Ralph Fiennes. Yet another ripoff of Pygmalion IMHO.
Never seen it, but I'm not a big JLo fan. Overrated, top to bottom.
I wouldn't recomend watching that movie...it'd probably "bum" you out.
Saw Fiennes in London playing H. Ibsen's Brand. Was cool.
Sounds like step-child Fiennes twill be Tom Riddle in next H.P. segment.
She was quite good in Out of Sight---though that was the perfect storm of source material, director, and co-star. (Elmore Leonard, Steven Soderberg and Geo Clooney.)
Beyond that, she ain't much.
(Man, I miss that editing option...)
Good to hear I'm not the only one stuck in a hotel with Gameday and the WGOM fired up. I think I;m going to watch Strange Brew on the ole instant Netflix and try to figure out this crazy Hamlet crap Rottentomatoes was telling me about.
On the menu tonight, BBQ chicken, broccoli cheese rice, field greens salad, Diet Dr. Pepper. Some really sweet cantaloupe for desert.
Grilled chicken and sweet corn.
And a chilled Madison River Brewing Salmon Fly Honey Rye brew.
ooooh. That latter sounds...interesting.
T-bone on the grill, couscous salad w/garden zucchini, tomatoes and herbs.
The SFHR is a wonderful concoction. Great balance between bold hops and sweet clover honey.
But the gem of the Madison River Brewery is their Scotch Ale...it's good enough for breakfast.
My wife thinks Alexei Ramirez is pretty. Not handsome, pretty. Or as she puts it, "He'd make a great drag queen."
Why do the White Sox, players announcers and fans, ALWAYS complain about the umpiring?
They have paranoid delusions based on their inherent inferiority complex. /Freud
Delmon's arm gets a little respect there.
Nice. But the bases are still loaded for Quentin ....
pewp
Schnikes. Quentin pays us back for last night's base-clearer.
There's just no way Liriano can be counted on to exceed the performance of a true veteran.
an aside: Manny to the Marlins?
They were just talking about him on ESPN (don't know about what though, I try to tune out ESPN at times.) They only showed him hitting home runs off the Twins and Indians. It's obvious that ESPN hates the AL Central.
ESPN needs no reason to talk about Manny.
FOOOOOK
double play
Man, that DP is looking big right now. Sweet hit by the Mountie.
We got a frickin run! Coulda been more, d'oh.
Finally.
LaTroy going to Houston.
Traded for class A 2B Matt Cusick.
Dazzle was saying that the Houston GM still think the team is in the race
With the Cards, Brewers, and Cubs in your division....hmmmmm
Denial is not just a river in Egypt.
They always say that so the fans will keep coming to the games. Just like teams are never rebuilding.
