But Livan is 8-1 at home!!

twayn replied on July 30th, 2008 at 6:37 pm

With a 3.91 ERA in the Dome. And Floyd has a 5.29 ERA on the road. But none of those numbers comfort me.

OK, so it's not super likely with Mr. Munchy on the mound, but let's do this thing!

Belly up, Livan. And bring your appetite.

speaking of food
I am eating some lunch leftovers. Boy did I miss the mark on this

I tried to make sesame orange chicken and rice, but I think I got the breading wrong on the chicken, and my orange sauce tastes like....orange!

live and learn. I'll probably try it again some other time.

I've been down in Anderson, IN since Monday, and we've been hitting up a pretty tasty dive near my hotel. Had one of the best patty melts I've ever had tonight. The only shitty part is I was drinking Bud the past three nights, though it tastes frickin awesome after spending 12-14 hours in a damn dairy plant.

davidwatts
davidwatts replied on July 30th, 2008 at 7:38 pm

I loooooooove a great patty melt. There is a place in town called Blodines (its a 50's theme cafe) and... WOW best. patty melt. I've ever tasted.

cheaptoy replied on July 30th, 2008 at 7:44 pm

It really is a great sandwhich. It ranks up there with reubens for me when it comes to judging restaurants.

Im not much of a Rueben fan

but, a lot of restaurants will use Kraft cheese on thier melts, cause its cheap. Buts thats not real cheese, its processed something or other. Real patty melts will use melting cheeses and fresh meat

cheaptoy replied on July 30th, 2008 at 8:04 pm

I agree. Kraft cheese on a patty melt (or anything, really) is pretty wrong. This one was 1/3 pound of freshly shaped beef with onions and swiss on it served on rye.

A good Rueben is food of kings. In total agreement that it's the sign of a great deli/diner/cafe.

Great Dane in Madison, WI. Great reuben. They make their sauerkraut using their ESB. Plus, they have excellent beers to wash it down.

One the best I've had was at the Berghoff in Chicago. Lotsa lean corned beef, great caraway rye, and just the right amount of kraut. Good beer selection, too. Locally, I like Whitey's in NE MPLS, but I'm always looking for a challenger.

My pasta salad now seems inadequate.

*sigh*

 I love Gardy

from Joe C

Gardy gathered the media for his pregame session and stressed that no decision has been made about Alexi Casilla having surgery to repair the torn ligament in his right thumb.

“So you can unblog your blogs,” Gardenhire said.

greenmachine
greenmachine replied on July 30th, 2008 at 6:59 pm

Gardy on the radio: Punto is "the most logical choice" to bat second. Ahh, it's the good old times again.

/pointless lineup complaints

GreekHouse
GreekHouse replied on July 30th, 2008 at 7:03 pm

Obviously Gardy hates winning. Hence, Punto is the logical choice to bat second. QED

davidwatts
davidwatts replied on July 30th, 2008 at 7:11 pm

I would rather have Punto at 2B than Harris

greenmachine
greenmachine replied on July 30th, 2008 at 7:15 pm

Gardy not the only one with "batting order = fielding position" disease

;)

nibbish
nibbish replied on July 30th, 2008 at 7:16 pm

So, who should be batting second?

I almost thought Young made some logical sense (I'd like to see how he hits with a little lineup protection), but I've been told that's lunacy.

...and I guess I'd sooner see Harris at second base, with Punto at short, but whatever.

greenmachine
greenmachine replied on July 30th, 2008 at 7:24 pm

I'd just bump everybody up. Punto has had a good streak very recently, but I expect his OBP will mostly go down. Why put a mediocre or low-OBP guy above your best hitters?

nibbish
nibbish replied on July 30th, 2008 at 7:30 pm

Other than Mauer & Morneau, the Twins don't really have anything but mediocre/low OBP guys (or, at least, none without the dreaded S3 clouding their numbers).

Your idea makes sense.

socaltwinsfan

Nobody said he would pitch a shutout.

nibbish
nibbish replied on July 30th, 2008 at 7:22 pm

It's only the first, let him eat some innings and get a 15-hit, 6-run complete game.

GreekHouse
GreekHouse replied on July 30th, 2008 at 7:25 pm

Only if it's a 13 inning complete game.

nibbish
nibbish replied on July 30th, 2008 at 7:31 pm

He could totally do it, it would be the 10th inning, he'd have 130 pitches, and he'd just look at Gardy and say "you're not taking me out of this game".

Gameday on Livan's pitches this AB.

Fastball, 84 mph
Changeup, 83 mph

cheaptoy

Here in this Norisstown, PA hotel, have GameDay and WGOM fired up, but also secretly watching 'Maid of Manhattan', featuring JLo and not-yet-Voldemort-Ralph Fiennes. Yet another ripoff of Pygmalion IMHO.

The SFHR is a wonderful concoction. Great balance between bold hops and sweet clover honey.

But the gem of the Madison River Brewery is their Scotch Ale...it's good enough for breakfast.

They were just talking about him on ESPN (don't know about what though, I try to tune out ESPN at times.) They only showed him hitting home runs off the Twins and Indians. It's obvious that ESPN hates the AL Central.
