davidwatts mentioned this in the CoC, but it deserves its own post. Per Joe C., Livan and Monroe are out, Liriano and Ruiz are in.

Sorry, The WGOM is no longer accepting Letters to the Editor on this article.
We need a quick pot of Dunkin Donuts House Blend to balance the 'hoof on the palate.

Congratulations to Randy Ruiz--could have saved $3 million by not bothering with Monroe in the first place, but alas.
It's about time for Liriano, and I hope he starts tomorrow, and they push Perkins back to Monday, which would separate the lefties. I know they don't want to pay Livan's incentives, but I'd rather they DFA Bass and keep Hernandez around in case they need a spot start or something.
In a real pinch you could have Boof do a start. But that pinch could leave an ugly bruise.
Bass and Boof are both former starters. Livan hasn't worked out of the bullpen since his first career appearance.
This news excites me. Here's hoping Ruiz makes the most of his shot.
...and here's hoping Liriano has smoothed out a bit. I'm not expecting 2006 (really, who is?), but a sub 11 ERA might be nice.
This move is probably just as good as anything we could have gotten in a trade.
Amen.
I'm rather impressed that Bill Smith would make these moves. A lot of GMs might have wanted to save face and dump Bass and put Livan in the bullpen instead of just dumping Livan and his salary. Also, I had not heard any indications that Monroe's job was in jeopardy, but it makes sense with the emergence of Span and Cuddyer working his way back. The team's average age just dropped quite a bit and that's good. Nice to see Smith is more concerned about correcting his mistakes and optimizing his roster now and not concerned as much about how he looks in the eyes of his bosses and the fans.
Ruiz is DHing tonight
