Does It Come With Bubble Gum?

Arkansas man buys Honus Wagner baseball card for $1.62 million. My brothers and I spent many hours and many dollars collecting and trading cards. Alas, mom threw them all away when we moved to Minnesota.

This is why I've kept mine. I just wish Randy Johnson and Junior would hurry up and retire so they can get in the HOF and make my Donruss Rated Rookie cards worth something.

I second that.

My favorite was a Carl Yastrzemski Triple Crown winner card, must have been issued in 1968 by Topps or Fleer. I was a big Yaz fan for a few years in the 60's.

I don't know if it's part of their permanent collection, but when I visited the Baseball HOF and Museum in 1998, they had one of those T206 Honus Wagners. It's a very small card and very rare. I was under the impression that there were only 6 in existence, but the article to which I linked says that there are 50 to 100 in existence.

Two more things: this is the Gretzky card referred to in the article and no, it came with cigarettes. ;)

I think there are 5 or 6 in very good to mint condition

I was very happy to find that my baseball cards were still intact when I thought to retrieve them after college. I've since traded off many of them for Twins cards and only focus on singles of Twins at this point. And the owner of the local shop knows to save some of the bubble gum for me. The gum is individually wrapped now, so no dried-up shards lodged in you mouth when biting down anymore.

It always makes me sad to hear another "mom threw them out" story...
