Cup of CoffeeWolves lose again by 22, Kevin Love down to 17 minutes. This is the worst possible situation for the Wolves. They are driving what is left of their fan base with a tremendous stretch of terrible basketball. Their best, or second-best, player has checked out and is getting buried on the bench. I doubt that Love is in their long term plans. How's that O.J. Mayo deal looking now? Citizens Online23 Users Online WGOM Sign InLog InRetired WGOM Jokes

I watched him run the 100 but missed the 200. The guy is crazy fast.
You "missed" the 200 because it hasn't been on TV yet -- he just ran it this morning. Tonight.
He's aptly named.
Do you guys think the 100m will ever break the 8 second barrier? Personally, I don't see why not. Bolt is a freak of nature and is a great sprinter simply because of his height; which in turn effects his stride length. Why can't someone just a few inches taller than Bolt be born with the same freakish athleticism? Then a little taller...a little more taller...a little more...
Bold prediction: The 2020 Summer Olympics, which will be held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, will be the first time someone breaks the 8 second mark. That person will be an even 7' tall.
Quote me on that.
Can't wait to see the 200m "live" here on the West Coast. This whole scheduled broadcasting thing NBC has thought up is totally nuts.
We will save this for the next 12 years and pull it out when the Olympics come to Minneapolis. Perhaps Kevin Garnett's kid will do it.
Hey, let's try and break the 9 second barrier first, huh?
When you say "break the 8 second barrier" do you mean sub-8 ( <=7.99) or a time in the 8's (8.00-8.99) ?
Some math:
To run the 100m in 8.99s would be 11.123 m/s. Bolt's current WR is 9.69s -->10.319 m/s. That increase is 7.22% in speed.
For comparison the 1968 WR was run in 9.95s -->10.050m/s. The difference from 1968 to Bolt's current WR is only 2.61%.
Is there a way that they can just let him run alongside the 400 as an exhibition?
Looks like Lane 1 is always open.
If you look at the progression of world records through time (there's a cool graphic here), I think asking for lower than 9.0 seconds is asking for a lot.
The 100M record hasn't even dropped a full second yet in 96 years. And if we assume that there is some limit to human performance, it should become exponentially more difficult get further improvement as the limit is approached.
That said, Bolt is a freak of nature. It's too bad he didn't run hard through the 100M final because I'm curious what his time would have been.
In the same graphics library as the link above, there is also a cool historical medal tracker. I recommend it, if only to see how the East Germans came out of nowhere.
Bolt really screwed up in the 100. If he shaves another .05 off the record, he would have been legendary. As it is, he's merely outrageous.
It's pretty legendary to me already. That nitrous oxide kick at 40M was awesome. It's not like he's done now, or that the WR needs to be set in the Olympics to be credible. Just watch what this guy does in the future...
There is talk over at Fanhouse that maybe he dogged it a little so he didn't break it too much all at once. I don't know if someone can really have that kind of foresight, but it does make for interesting conjecture.
Yeah, but what better venue to just kill the record. The whole freaking WORLD is watching. If he breaks it in some European event, no one in the US at least will even notice.
Balls out at the Olympics has always been my motto.
That would be a serious wardrobe malfunction.
