Sonic Youth “Teenage Riot”

Fantastic version of the SY classic. From German television, 1996.

Beyond their music (which I happen to think is awesome), these guys deserve props for exposing visual artists like Gerhard Richter, Richard Prince, and Richard Pettibone to a wider audience.

I think I may have over-estimated the WGOM's aging hipster population. (If you didn't like this one, you prolly won't like the next the 3 days either.) Wink

  • I love the Repository. It has some of the best humor writing going. From the Sonic Youth entry:

While even the New York press ignored Bad Moon Rising upon its release, now viewing the band as too arty and pretentious, Sonic Youth was becoming quite critically acclaimed in the United Kingdom, where the new album had sold 5,000 copies in just six months.[

5,000 copies in only six months. That's AMAZING.

Huh. They are from NYC. And I always figured they were from Seattle.

Huh. Since when do record sales have anything to do with the quality of the music? Wink

      • Market test, baby! Smile

I'd have to listen to this about a thousand times (and prolly smoke about as many joints) before I could decide whether it was great or just more garage-band junk. But I'm (slightly) embarrassed to admit that I can't recall ever having actually heard any of their stuff before.

          • I've been scouring the country all summer vetting VP candidates for McCain (the POW/MILF theme--not my idea, but whatever). Next stop, Juneau. We've got a lot of prepwork to do before the governor meets the press! But I managed to find a moment to drop in tonight, and loved this video. Thanks.

Smile Hey! Good to see you, 'wig! (And good to see a fellow SY fan, too.)

POW/MILF. Yeah, that seems like a fringe party fetish, if you ask me. You broke Timmy's heart with that pick.

              • Timmy should thank his lucky stars, really. His dorky blandness wouldn't have played well outside the Land O' Lakes; and if he had assumed the role of evangelical poster boy/attack dog for the national party, which they would've wanted, it wouldn't have played well back home. Might have been the end of his public career.

            • I'm speechless.

I found this picture of you on the internets. Are you coming home someday?

Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore get my vote for rock and roll's coolest married couple--they just celebrated their 24th anniversary. Congrats, kids.

    • What about Keef and Mick??

or, slightly more seriously, Weymouth and Frantz? They are in year 31.

still, any high-profile, touring, performing arts couple that has made it as long as Gordon-Moore should be lauded. You'd have figured they'd have been done after 18 months Wink
