MASSIVE FIAL

Yesterday afternoon, I got home from work and the site was down. I sent the ISP an email asking what was going on. They told me that I was dragging down the server and that I needed to implement a caching system. I have the caching system in place, so I removed the code that was blocking everyone's access (including mine) and I started to pull features out to make the site run faster. That's when they blocked my account. I promptly e-mailed back asking what I had done, because I had followed their procedures. No response. The WGOM was dead.
This morning I got up to a bunch of emails from concerned citizens. As you can see, the site is back up and we'll cook from here today. The guy at Dreamhost did some tweaking on the site and perhaps, perhaps it will run faster. He said blocking my account and then not responding to my e-mail message was "not cool". I'll say. I will be looking for a new ISP in the off season to try and eliminate some of this bull shit. The constant errors are a pain, I know. I hate it as much as everyone else. But, yesterday was unacceptable. They've obviously got too many sites on their servers.
Anyway, we'll have at it again today. If the site is working better, then hooray!

well, better to have people email you about a problem than to have the site go down and no one noticed
bS had to talk me down off the ledge. Thanks, doc.
Yes. Now, about your feelings toward your mother....

You're
a fraudFreud!Afreud of what?
Tunnels, caves, trains, cigars...
+ pooping
Man, a cigar is just a cigar (sometimes)!
It's a Brand New Day, people.
Time to get a new host imo.
Yep, will be doing that soon.
Boss, I think you should decide on a permanent contingency blog. Like how families are supposed to have a designated meeting area in case of a fire or whatever. Is ours now Yickit's blog? FTLT's? Gleeman's? Should we invade a lowly White Sox blog?
Also, have you ever considered not being so danged popular all the time?
heh. Now THAT would be funny -- to invade South Side Sox.
but yea. We need a contingency blog. Make a pronouncement in consultation with loyal lieutenants Yickit, FTLT, etc. Please.
Even funnier: to invade South Side Sox with extended conversations of Abstract Expressionism and Cabernets.
Yickit was a mensch for letting us crash on his couch yesterday. Thanks, pally.
Can we talk about Russian Constructivism too?
The way Mets has been melting down lately, you'd think SBG was serving up free streaming porn flicks.
I think we'll designate yickit.com as the contingency site for tonight. FTLT had promised to do it, but he'd be confusing his Buffalo crowd with a horde of Minnesotans.
In case of meltdown, head to Yickit's Mother's Basement.
I thought Buffalo was in Minnesota. There's another Buffalo?
There's also Buffalo State park. Nice man-made swimming hole, a decent golf course, and good family camping. Here I thought FTLT was a park ranger.
Hey- I put a lot of effort into that swimming hole.
Yickit, as much as I enjoyed stopping by last night, I hope that I only have to go there again for right wing politics.
I think I'll take that of some sort of compliment.
But there's already an emergency game log up over there.
What I will do is keep my Twins post from today up as a second contingency site in the event that we also crash yickit's site tonight. Hey-- This is a pretty important game!
I've had Dreamhost stop everything, even my email, without any notification. That was suck.
I was real close to dropping them about the last time you had a ton of problems here. End of '06? Since then it's been a lot better and I haven't been motivated to move on.
My fear is that you won't have much better luck in other shared hosting environments. Perhaps a dedicated host will be more solid? Unfortunately that comes with a lot of maintenance baggage.
What this really calls for, I think, is an alternative to the gamelogs. Something more realtime chatty, yet still perusable after the game is complete. Maybe an embedded campfire chat:
http://www.campfirenow.com/
Unfortunately, the cost is a bit steep for such a thing. I think there is a great opportunity here, but I haven't had a chance to really delve into it and seize the day...
Maybe an embedded campfire chat
what we need is an embedded bar.

Site seems faster today overall.
What the guy told me is that plugins that I didn't have activiated could be dragging down the site. Plus, the avatars might be, too. I pulled the sidebar on game logs a while back, so that should have made things better, but nesting comments also provides a load.
really? Unactivated plugins? Hmm. Gonna have to look into that.
