Jacoby Ellsbury's Postseason "Blog"
The Halos are on the brink of elimination and will have to beat Josh Beckett at Fenway to keep their hopes of advancing in the playoffs alive. Fortunately the Angels will have Joe Saunders toeing the rubber tonight at Fenway. Saunders is 4-0 with a 2.75 ERA in six career games against Boston, and hopes to keep this series alive.

I guess if both the Cubs and White Sox end up out of the playoffs, I'll have to start rooting against the R.Sox by default. I wonder what the odds of a inside the park homerun are tonight with our friend manning center field.

It seems to me that ball was Torii Hunter's to catch. Instead, he watches it drop and three runs score. 3-1 Boston.
Jeff A replied on October 5, 2008 at 7:51:36 pm
A homer by Napoli ties the game at 3.

Bells'll ring ting-a-ling-a-ling
That's amore
Jeff A replied on October 5, 2008 at 8:26:11 pm
Napoli hits a second homer to put the Angels ahead 4-3. Apparently the ball, to his eyes, is a big pizza pie.

Bella, Padre! Bella!
Jeff A replied on October 5, 2008 at 8:45:46 pm
Youkilis doubles to tie the game at 4.

can FROD get out of this?
Banjo replied on October 5, 2008 at 10:49:46 pm
No.
Banjo replied on October 5, 2008 at 10:45:11 pm
You see ii's baserunning gaffe?
brianS replied on October 5, 2008 at 10:54:48 pm
haven't watched any postseason baseball. And I just got back from post-piano recital dinner, so, no, I didn't hear it either. What did he do?
Banjo replied on October 5, 2008 at 10:57:43 pm
He hit a ball down the third base line - tried to stretch it into a double and was out by 10 feet.
brianS replied on October 5, 2008 at 10:53:30 pm
Juiced!
sean replied on October 5, 2008 at 10:55:00 pm
Bases loaded, two outs. Let's see F-Rod wiggle out of this.
sean replied on October 5, 2008 at 10:56:09 pm
And he does. Onto the 11th!
brianS replied on October 5, 2008 at 10:55:40 pm
How about a wild pitch here?
brianS replied on October 5, 2008 at 10:56:14 pm
damn. But 34 pitches for FROD.
brianS replied on October 5, 2008 at 10:57:12 pm
Heh. They're playing "Thriller" at the stadium between innings.
Banjo replied on October 5, 2008 at 11:07:41 pm
BS -- Have you had this brew from Full Sail?
brianS replied on October 5, 2008 at 11:14:14 pm
nope. I've seen it around, however, and have been meaning to give it a try since someone here mentioned it was from Full Sail.
brianS replied on October 5, 2008 at 11:19:34 pm
I had one of their special bourbon-barrel porters on tap once in Seattle or Portland. Easily one of the top ten beers I've ever had.
Banjo replied on October 5, 2008 at 11:20:38 pm
Very clean.. I like it. $12.99 a 12er. Do you have any thoughts on Redhook's Longhammer IPA?
brianS replied on October 5, 2008 at 11:29:01 pm
I think the Longhammer is a respectable IPA. Not as good as Full Sail's, and not in the same league with, say, Anderson Valley's Hop Ottin' or Victory's Hop Devil IPA or Bell's Two-Hearted Ale.
I liked their Redhook Rye too, although they seem to have discontinued it. The Sunrye they replaced it with gets mediocre reviews.
Banjo replied on October 5, 2008 at 11:36:32 pm
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... Bell's. I'm not a big fan of the Oberon, though.
brianS replied on October 5, 2008 at 11:37:50 pm
The Two-Hearted Ale on cask is a wonder to behold.
Banjo replied on October 5, 2008 at 10:59:19 pm
Nice night for a ballgame.
brianS replied on October 5, 2008 at 11:12:25 pm
nobody wants to win this game.
brianS replied on October 5, 2008 at 11:16:55 pm
He went to Jered's!
Banjo replied on October 5, 2008 at 11:22:55 pm
The little man's gonna end it, right?
socaltwinsfan replied on October 5, 2008 at 11:33:04 pm
The little man gets his first hit of the series to score the go-ahead run. Of course, the little man is Erick Aybar instead of Dustin Pedroia.
Banjo replied on October 5, 2008 at 11:28:58 pm
For those of you who find empathy with "goats", this was in my "top headlines" feed.
brianS replied on October 5, 2008 at 11:34:52 pm
Would it work on Cubs fans?
socaltwinsfan replied on October 5, 2008 at 11:31:38 pm
Howdy, all! Nice night for some extra innings.
Say what you will about Torii, he is now hitting .319 for his career in the postseason with an OPS close to .900. I can't fault him too much for getting thrown out since he was just trying to be aggressive and make a play for his team.
Banjo replied on October 5, 2008 at 11:40:18 pm
He's been very good, but in this case it didn't seem like smart baseball. I dunno..he's got the bum knee..a little too much "your mind writing checks that your body can't cash", for my taste.
socaltwinsfan replied on October 5, 2008 at 11:50:08 pm
I'm not saying it wasn't a mistake, but more like it's one I can live with and I know without a doubt that the Angels will never complain about that. They preach being aggressive on the basepaths even more than the Twins. So much so, that Vlad has become an absolute train wreck. He is without a doubt the worst base runner in baseball.
brianS replied on October 5, 2008 at 11:33:05 pm
Erik Aybar, American hero.
brianS replied on October 5, 2008 at 11:36:52 pm
Ok, I'm fading, kids. take 'em home. sounds like this series will get extended.
socaltwinsfan replied on October 5, 2008 at 11:38:39 pm
A one-run lead on the road in the playoffs in the 12th inning. No problem, right Torii?
