looks like the WGOM has a case of the Mondays. Closed circuit to SBG, I have my top300 Twins of the first 48 years list updated with complete stats through 2008. Did you still want to throw that up somewhere on the site? I tried to email it to SBG@stickandballguy.com but it bounced back. Do you want it and if so, where?

Aaarrrgh you going to have a latte?

Due in part to a discussion of new music in the CoC a couple of weeks ago, I decided to check out some new bands myself. Click my name for the first part of the discussion, also my short review of the Weezer concert.

Do you like the Ting Tings album? I've been thinking about getting it, but I don't know. "That's Not My Name" is a cute song and all, but I'm not really convinced that they are worth investing in.
If anyone wants another recommendation from me, I just picked up the "Live at the Annandale Hotel" by Life Without Buildings and I like it a whole lot. They aren't necessarily the WGOM's cup of tea, but they're who I'm diggin'.

isn't that latter clause sufficient to schedule a video, NG??
New Guy replied on October 6, 2008 at 1:47:47 pm
It's true, I do enjoy foisting my weird tastes upon the unsuspecting Nation...
But alas, I have checked and they don't have any videos.
New Guy replied on October 6, 2008 at 1:58:57 pm
Also, be careful how you encourage me brianS...
Unless, that is, you want me to unleash a series of Best Friends Forever and All Girl Summer Fun Band videos. I could do a "New Guy tortures the WGOM" week in which I only play music that I know other people won't like
brianS replied on October 6, 2008 at 2:04:57 pm
"New Guy Gone Wild Week". I could get into that.

The Ting Tings are one of the four I decided to check out. A couple of good songs but the jury is still out.

How is the new Wedding Present? They were once an E-6 fave--about 15 years ago. Which, technically, would make them "not new".
Excellent band, though. I'll be curious to get your take on El Rey.

Two new SBG library items (featuring The Killer) last week, and nary a comment. You got your review in the works, E-6? I'm taking a respite from my own posts for now...

I think the whole Nation is a little hung over these days.

It's kind of like that Simpsons episode where Marge Simpson gets Itchy & Scratchy cartoons to eliminate violence and the kids hate it so much they turn it off and go outside. There's a scene where kids start opening doors and rubbing their eyes like they just came out of a long sleep and then they start to play outside with each other, much like a scene from the 1950s, where they play stickball, shoot marbles, jump rope, ride bikes, etc. Of course, the cartoon violence eventually is allowed to return and everything returns to normal.
Right now, the Citizens have woken up to a new world that exists outside Twins baseball and are re-discovering it. But soon, it will be February and the pitchers and catchers will report and they will return in full. Actually, I'm sure most will be champing at the bit come November when the GM meetings kick off the hot stove mania in full.

Real life got in the way of virtual life. In addition to Ball Four, I finished Boys of Summer by Roger Kahn, too--i'll try to get them both to you by week's end.
Another book I just finished this weekend was Cormac McCarthy's The Road. Anyone else read this yet? Wow. A relentlessly bleak, yet uplifting book. Just brilliant. The cat can write.

I read both the articles, I just couldn't think of anything to say about them. But as far as I'm concerned, Killebrew-related content is always welcome.

I ran the Twin Cities 10 Mile yesterday. I like 55 and overcast much better than 75 and humid (last year).

Any one who is interested: I'm posting a Vikings game log in about 2 hours. yickit.com

I saw the movie "Leatherheads" last night. It was ok. Not great, but I felt my 2 hours was not a complete waste.

Sid Hartman reports
The Twins won't talk about it, but it's expected that Delmon Young, the left fielder they obtained from Tampa Bay before this past season, will be made available on the trade market.
Let the speculation begin!
Personally, I don't know what we could get for him at this point. It seems like selling low to me.
FirstTimeLongTime replied on October 6, 2008 at 5:07:46 pm
For the record, I realize that Sid doesn't seem too reliable. I just thought that it might be of some interest.
DK replied on October 6, 2008 at 5:12:20 pm
Hard to say. If you read through the comments on MLBtraderumors, it's pretty apparent that most baseball fans (like most Twins fans who don't read the WGOM) are still vastly overvaluing Delmon. Looking through some of those ideas...I don't know about you, but I'd be falling out of my chair to accept trades like Hardy or Encarnacion for Delmon. Now, obviously just because 90% of baseball/Twins fans still treat Delmon like a #1 pick and ignore his track record, doesn't mean that anyone in front offices do. But, maybe somebody out there (Jim Bowden anyone...?) still does, and if so, I think he's our best tradeable OF asset - he's probably got more trade value than Cuddyer or Gomez at this point.
brianS replied on October 6, 2008 at 6:15:13 pm
I would gladly trade Delmon for a young, league-average 3b. Free Jason Kubel!
I want to see Kubel take over LF or at least split time between LF and DH. It makes no sense to me that Kubel (115 OPS+ in 517 PA) got so many fewer PA than did _elmon (623 PA of 100 OPS+), particularly as a left-handed hitter.
but if you are talking about most tradable OF asset, wouldn't that be Darnell Span? He of the "where did THAT come from?" 122 OPS+ in 411 PA this year....
not that I'm dying to trade D-SPAN2, mind you. Just sayin'. If someone were fool enough to offer BS the nextEvan Longoria for him, you'd have to do that trade, wouldn't you?

D'oh! Beat to the punch!
Yickit replied on October 6, 2008 at 6:51:41 pm
I would miss the roller skates in LF.
Katana replied on October 6, 2008 at 6:19:25 pm
I this thinking about this a little differently the other day. Does anyone else think we try and sell high on Span? I loved his contributions this season, but I am still skeptical he's going to do it for the next 5 years. Could he bring back a decent 2B/3B, preferably right-handed?
Certainly the log-jam in the outfield/DH spots is one of the cruical issues entering the off-season. It's too bad the Cuddyer in the infield experiment didn't work out, because that would solve the problem. At least the log-jam problem. Not some of the other things.
CarterHayes replied on October 6, 2008 at 9:25:45 pm
Could just be a mix-up at MLB Advanced Media, but right now they have Michael Cuddyer listed at 3B... and has been that way at least since the 3rd of the month.
Anyone know if it's been like that for longer?
