Cup of Coffee: November 17, 2008

November 17th, 2008 by SBG

Sunday night was the first T-Wolves game that I've watched pretty much start to finish this season. Man, they are something.

The AFL obviously wants its players to go to church on Sunday, so the only ball to report on is from Venezuela, where Caracas scored two in the ninth to defeat Aragua 3-2.

It was not a good day for Twins players. Luke Hughes was 0-for-4 and struck out twice. Carmen Cali came in to start the sixth and walked the only batter he faced. Jose Mijares came on in the ninth with Aragua leading 2-1, runners on first and third, and two out. He promptly gave up a two-run double to give Caracas the ultimate margin of victory. Mijares' line shows one-third of an inning, one hit, and no runs, but that's not a good day. Bobby Korecky had the best day of any Twin--he did not appear in the game.

I've heard that the AFL isn't exactly the most uptight league ever assembled. I think it is interesting that they don't play on Sundays -- one would think that Sundays would be the best attended games. I suppose, though, they figure they can't compete with the Arizona Cardinals on Sundays. Ha!

Monday: the weekly odyssey begins. I blame this guy:

[Just wanted to use this picture]

Seriously though, is it baseball season yet?

Maybe now MLB owners will let him join the club.

Just watched the first episode of History Channel's series Extreme Trains. The host is a little too wide-eyed and enthusiastic for my taste, but it's a neat show to check out.

I'll have to get my H to watch that. Tuesdays at 9pm looks like it may be too late for an almost-3yo... Hopefully I can find reruns on Saturdays or something.

Poo-holes wins NL MVP

Hard to argue too much with that. The VORP gap between him and the 2nd-ranked guy (Hanley Ramirez) was as large as the gap between 2nd and 7th.

Not to mention Pujols is probably the best defensive first baseman out there. I was somewhat expecting the writers to fall for their obsession with RsBI and give it to Howard, but I'm happy they got this one right.

Another of the possible helps for the Twins bullpen is gone, as the Giants signed Jeremy Affeldt to a two-year contract.

Sorry, the LTE form is closed at this time.
