I know that this is really of only concern to myself, but my goodness, what a heartbreaking loss for the Bills last night.
There is nothing quite like going to the stadium to watch you team lose on a last second field goal on Monday Night. Blerg.
I have always been a distant fan of the Bills. Maybe it's the "loveable loser" complex. Being a Viking fan, I see many similarities between your team history and mine. Many playoff appearances, many hall of fame candidates, just can't win the big one.
That, and I drafted Marshawn Lynch last year and kept him this year too.
I suppose, at least, he had good numbers last night.
I watched the last 10 min of last nights game instead of preparing for a debate on the south's secession that I had in class this morning. Its a decision I don't regret.
Back when I cared, I liked the Bills, too. I've seen a couple of games in Orchard Park and I was a Phil Hanson fan (I played intermural basketball against him when he and I were in college). Also, I loved Jim Kelly.
I was a fan of Joe Ferguson's Fu Manchu and of the Electric Company, which probably presaged my future as an offensive lineman.
Aragua was rained out last night, so the only ball to report on is in Arizona, where the Peoria Saguaros scored in the bottom of the ninth to defeat Phoenix 4-3. The Desert Dogs remain in first place by five games.
The only Twins pitcher to appear was Jeff Manship, who pitched three innings, giving up two runs on two hits and a walk. Manship leads the league in innings pitched. Steven Tolleson came back into the lineup and was 1-for-4 with a walk. Dustin Martin was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Danny Valencia was 0-for-4 and struck out twice.
Desert Dogs have already clinched the division title and will play in Saturday's title game. Manship will get the start.
Pete Newell is headed to the Big Man Camp in the sky. RIP.
Had some good news/bad news this past weekend with the beginnings of my master bathroom remodelling: my plan was to change the single wall sconce into two separate sconces, one over each sink, and then add an outlet below between the two cabinets (we have a split vanity with a single countertop over them). Well, moving the sconce wiring went well, particularly since this dust mite-allergic handyman had to dig around among the rafters and insulation. When it came to adding the new outlet, I cut the holes in the wall needed to restring the wiring, but when I reached through the outlet hole to pull the wiring through, I felt moisture. Gah!
After doing some thought exercises with my neighbor across the street, I determined that the exterior work we had done last year included a nail striking the horizontal drain PVC connecting the two sinks, and water was seaping out a crack in the back and down the stud. The good news is 1) the outlet hole I had cut was only 2" from the leak, or I might never have noticed it, 2) it is right in between the two sink cabinets, so I don't have to tear out more than just the drywall between them, and 3) I should be able to repair it myself.
Well, sorry to make a short story long, but through all this, I think I'll be able to maintain the smoke and mirrors that I know what I'm doing. Plus, the phone calls consulting with my dad also help me to let him know that he's still Da Man.
Since we're talking home improvement, our gutters on the top floor of our house are steel and have rusted completely through in several sections (great timing!). Sheenie and I have had a parade of gutter people through and around the house to get estimates, but it sounds like a couple of them can get us in before the worst of winter rolls around.
On the bright side, it all adds equity!
some might say that winter in Minnesota is a good time not to have gutters, Will.
I would agree with that.
I like sconces, especially cranberry ones, with a Venti.
I found this blog post to be hilarious. A parent's tale of delivering Precious Child's forgotten violin to school. Numerous Bad Words invoked, however.
btw, RJ Swindle is available on the FA market for a song.
My Bacon Number to Swindle is two, so I'm interested in seeing him succeed. If Jamie Moyer can have an 80-year career in the Majors, surely RJ deserves another shot.
Tonight's Twins Classic on FSN North: Twins v. Boston, June 13, 2006. If you don't remember I won't spoil it for you, but you'll want to watch all the way to the end.
I love that game.
I wish FSN would add more 'Classic Games' They seem to run the same 5. (The one meantioned, the Bert shaved head game. Liriano against the Rays, a couple against the Brewers)
What I really wish is that they'd show some games with the great Twins teams of the '60s, or the championship teams of '87 and '91. I wouldn't even mind seeing a game from the average Carew-led teams of the mid- to late-'70s. Maybe I'm wrong, but I would think if you advertised that, there would be enough of a curiosity factor that some people would watch, especially this time of year when there's not much going on for mid-week sports.
I agree with you.
I have never watched a game with the Killer, Oliva, Carew. Never saw Jim Kaat pitch (and barely remember Bert in the 87 series)
I think there would be great interest in digging into the super archives somwhere
from the average Carew-led teams of the mid- to late-'70s
I would hope you really meant "from the Carew-led average teams" instead. Rod was never average.
I think that would be a great idea. Those early 70's teams were the ones I remember most from my childhood, also including; Braun, Brye, Reese, Mitterwald, "The Blade", Cardenas, Tovar, Perry...and you gotta think the announcing from back then would sound refreshingly informative as well.
