Cup of CoffeeWolves lose again by 22, Kevin Love down to 17 minutes. This is the worst possible situation for the Wolves. They are driving what is left of their fan base with a tremendous stretch of terrible basketball. Their best, or second-best, player has checked out and is getting buried on the bench. I doubt that Love is in their long term plans. How's that O.J. Mayo deal looking now? Citizens Online39 Users Online WGOM Sign InLog InRetired WGOM Jokes

The floodgates are now open for the T-Wolves.
All they do is win!
Phoenix is clearly coasting since clinching their division, as the Desert Dogs lost to Surprise 11-6. No Twins pitchers appeared in the game. Dustin Martin was the hitting star, going 2-for-3 with a walk and a two-run homer. He drove in three runs on the game. Steven Tolleson was 1-for-3 with two walks and a run scored. Danny Valencia was 0-for-4 and struck out twice.
In Venezuela, the Tigres got back on the winning track by defeating Magallanes 6-2. A four-run sixth was the key to the victory. Luke Huges was 1-for-5 with a run scored. Jose Mijares pitched a scoreless eight, despite giving up two hits. He also struck out two.
I saw a Carleton College license plate holder on an Escalade today. Isn't that against some kind of alumni rule? Or is this just a really smart person being ironic and me not getting the joke?
You have to remember that Carleton isn't just Thorstein Veblen's (theorist of "conspicuous consumption") alma mater or where Paul Wellstone taught. It's also the alma mater of Melvin Laird (Nixon's Sec'y of Defense) and many other conservatives.
It's like that old commercial where the proto-Palin comes home from the office to the lyric, "I can bring home the bacon/fry it up in a pan/and never, ever let you forget you're a man". We can do it all.
Was there a Deadhead sticker on it?
I'm hoping for Black Flag.
That's like when Crossfire was filmed at GW. Paul Begala would do his douchey, "The environments!!!!one!!111eleven!!!" spiel on television and then turn around and roll out in his Escalade to drive about 3 miles in city traffic to wherever his house is. Such hypocrisy.
By the way, a certain "Unidentified Male" got to be on Crossfire one day defending the great state of Minnesota (scroll towards the bottom).
Question for brians and anyone else who may have input:
I actually get to name myself. Of course, the catch is that I have to give myself a Hebrew name (to put on the ketubah). Now, I'm drawing a blank on any good Hebrew names that I want to keep for the rest of my life.
Right now, the top choices are Zev (which was the most common Hebrew name associated with William because it means Wolf so the W and L are in the right spot) or Abraham (because he was a fantastic President and a ancestor of mine on my father's side - however, I feel sort of guilty reaching so high into the Jewish history foodchain and taking Abraham, the Patriarch!, and not even converting plus it might piss of Sheenie's father since he's in love with the South and thinks Lincoln was the worst President this side of FDR).
So any other alternatives I should consider before I name myself for the rest of my life?
I'm not a member of the Tribe, but how about Adam? True, he's like the father of everyone so that maybe a little presumptuous, but Adam Sandler wrote a cool song about Hanukkah. So, there's that. Plus, you could go with Aaron, Moses's right hand guy and the name of some Twins blogger. Or Jacob. He had a lot of sons and he's also Joe Mauer's brother. So there you go.
You'd recommend Jake Mauer, when Joseph Mauer is right out there for the grabbing??
Hosea? I liked that for my son who ended up Henry, but Wife objected that too many people would think him an Hispanic Girl. Seems there was a well-liked Gophers Basketball player with the name. I'm pretty sure it's a Hebrew name because he was a prophet. (But now I seem to remember the Red Hot Chili Peppers telling me that Bob Marley was a prophet, too, and "Robert" is clearly Germanic.)
How about Samuel, for the first Twins manager to take the team to the World Series?
I'd offer "Haman" as an opening gambit.
funny, my "christian" name is on our ketubah.
Zev works. Abraham works. How the hell can your FIL argue with going patriarchal? But remember, while he's the patriarch, he's the patriarch of a lot more than just the jews. If you want to get specific, you gotta go with Jacob.
Here's a good place to look.
My current favorite is "Barak" (meaning either "lightning" or "Barry" depending on mood).
I ended up choosing Abraham. The FIL doesn't have a problem with the patriarch, he has a problem with the person who presided over (in his words) The War Between the States.
Is it too late to change it to Moishe?
I thought that was known in the south as "The War of Northern Aggression"?
Well that, too, but mainly he gets hung up on the Between the States part because "it cannot be a Civil War since they were two separate countries"
Denard Span was named to the Topps Rookie All-Star Team.
bS: I'm at the albuquerque museum. Art and history to be exact, but not natural history (that’s across the street), and not the atomic museum (also across the street). When are you going to cruze through? If you're here and want to see something special (at least IMO) check out the NHCC's exhibition of the de la Torre brothers' newest works. Afterwards, you should check out the marble brewery (corner of marble and 1st street), but if you're only going to be in Santa Fe you can taste some of the marble's brews at the sleeping dog tavern or blue corn cafe
The food and the beer aren't too shabby at the 2nd street brewery in santa fe as well, the place is just a bit off the beaten path.
Watch for mail at the Museum tomorrow or Sat, meat.
meat: I'll confer with the Powers That Be. We are planning for a Dec. 25-30 visit, but don't have tix yet (or at least I have not been informed. Need to know basis, and I don't need to know).
I believe I've been to the 2nd street brewery, although it has been a few years. I'd love to check out marble.
It is now only a matter of time until they discover the giant underground oxygen machines! Huge Buried Water Glaciers Discovered on Mars
I totally grok that, water brother.
Tell me about your home world Usil.
+ a free lunch, twayn.

did anyone see that the Red Sox traded Coco Crisp to the Royals the other day
I dont like that move, because it seems Coco kills Twins pitching
I don't like the move because now we'll have to see him making that annoying kissy face when he hits way more often.
I think it means they want to move De Jesus to LF and trade Teahen.
GMDM must really believe that relief pitching is overrated in the market... He just dropped his #2 and #3 righties for guys that I don't think are awesome. (#1 is Current Royal and One Time All-Star Joakim Soria.)
I didn't want Crisp as return for Johan last year, and trading him one-for-one for Ramon seems to be a downgrade for the Royals (depending on what they can get for Teahen, though). I think I'd prefer Gathright and Ramon to Coco and no one.
Yeah, I bet Coco can't do this!
You may have seen this, but the Twins have added the following players to the major-league roster:
Drew Butera
Brian Duensing
Luke Hughes
Trevor Plouffe
Wilson Ramos
Deibinson Romero
Anthony Swarzak
Steven Tolleson
Drew Butera? Seriously? I mean, I loved his dad, even though he wasn't very good, and I'd love to see Drew make it, but right now, he has about as much business on a big-league roster as you or I do. What, Corky Miller isn't available? Chris Heintz won't return their calls? They won't pay the price for Danny Ardoin? I know you need a certain amount of depth at catcher, but if you can't find a Drew Butera in an emergency, you'd better revamp your front office.
Yeah, Butera has gotta be 4th or 5th in line of succession for catching.
Corky was with the Braves' organization, And Chris was with the O's IIRC.
I'm disappointed that they didn't put Julio DePaula back on...
added to the 40-man, or to the "Major League roster" (the 25-man)??
The article said "major league roster", but I'm sure it must be the forty-man roster. Still, what's the point? Are you really afraid someone is going to take Drew Butera away from you? And are you really afraid you can't replace him if they do? Why wouldn't it be better to just leave the roster spot open in case you acquire someone you want to add?
davidwatts mentioned recently that the library for "FSN Twins Classics" seems to consist of about five games from the last three years. He got that right. Tonight they are again showing the Liriano v. Kazmir game from 2006, which they just showed a couple weeks ago.
What's so annoying about this is that it's just laziness on someone's part. Somebody just simply doesn't care enough to do their job properly. FSN North has been showing games since what, 2001? And before that it was MSC, which started around 1988 or so. Even assuming they don't keep them all, they have to have recordings of a whole bunch of games. All it would take is somebody spending a little time with a source like baseball-reference.com, finding some good and/or significant games, and then going and finding the recordings. I know someone else's job always seems easier than your own, but this just does not seem like it would be that hard. All that keeps them from doing it is that the person whose job it is apparently doesn't care.
Well, they do edit the games a bit, but it can't be more than a
Can I get the LeCroy Grand Slam in Toronto? Or was that a Victory Sports game? I think it was the Victory Sports season, so even though it was a day game, it would have been televised. I heard that on the radio and never got to watch it.
Can we get Garza's debut to make us feel not so bad about letting him go?
Mauer's debut was a Victory sports game, I think.
Can we get the Koskie chair game? That was in Baltimore, right? I remember an awesome Morneau game in throwbacks in Baltimore. Same game?
Mauer's 5-for-5? Morneau's homer off Zumaya? Silva's 81-pitch cg (is that the same as the one against the Angels)? A game when Radke toughed it out with a shoulder made of wax and sawdust? Milton's no-hitter?
Who else has suggestions? Maybe we could compile them and send them to FSN.
the Mauer 5-5 game (against the Dodgers?) would be sweet
How about the 1973 debut of another left-handed Twins phenom: Eddie Bane?
Eh, maybe not...
Now, that is one I would love to see because, as I've said here before, that's the first game I ever saw in person.
If I remember correctly, Silva's was 74 pitches and it came against the Brewers. I managed to be at that game, it was a pretty awesome performance.
lets make a list of games we would like to see:
Paul Molitor's 3000th hit in Kansas City. I know that game was on tv.
This is old, and they may not have been televising then, but Kirby Puckett's 6-hit game against Milwaukee would be tremendous to see. Actually, it would be fun just to see a random game from the Puckett-Hrbek era.
I'm adding the 87 WS to my Christmas list today for this purpose (and Blyleven as well).
