2008-09 Game 11: Garnett at Jefferson
November 21st, 2008 by GreekHouse
<GreekHouse>I feel like I've been riding Wittman pretty hard recently, so in honor of the Wolves' second win of the season, I'll ease up a bit. Really, I shouldn't be too hard on him. He does some things that I don't like, but in reality, he has very little to do with the current state of the Wolves. That honor belongs to misters McHale and Taylor.
I've always liked Taylor as an owner. He has shown a willingness to spend money on players to produce a winning team and has spent a lot of money renovating the Target Center to make it a better place to watch NBA basketball. However, his allegiance to McHale has always bewildered me. Pretty much everyone that follows the Wolves thinks that McHale is a terrible GM, so I wonder what Taylor sees in him that the rest of us don't.
I've often wondered why there are a disproportionate number of former players who rise up to front office positions. Being able to play a game and being able to tell who can play it well are two completely different skills. Does being able to throw a curveball make it easier to tell what pitchers can get hitters out? Does being 6-10 make it easier to judge point guards? The answer to me is clearly "no". Turning former players as coaches is one thing, turning former players as GMs is totally different. In recent times, we've seen two former NBA greats turn into the two worst GMs in the game. The Knicks have taken care of their problem. The Wolves still need to take care of theirs.
Tonight when Boston comes to town, we get to watch our old friend KG. If it hadn't been for KG, I probably wouldn't have gotten into basketball the way I did. Unfortunately, when I think of him down the road, he will symbolize the futility of this front office to me. In 20 years, when Garnett is in the HOF and McHale is (hopefully) long gone, I will only think back on his years with the Wolves and wonder what could have been.
When KG won the championship last season, it was the happiest I've ever been to see a particular player win a championship in their sport. Seriously, I almost cried.</GreekHouse>

When the big trade for KG was made, the one thing I though might slow them down was a lack of depth (being a bad team and trading half their team to the Wolves). Right now, the Wolves bench is sticking it to the C's reserves.

The Wolves are playing really well right now. It's a shame they can't make a shot!

Since I am at my parent's house this weekend, I can actually watch NBA games on TV for the first time this season...but I think I am going to end up watching more Hornets-Thunder tonight, because CP3 might be my favorite player in the league right now.

Well, if you haven't been watching the game up until this point, now is not a good time to start.

Boston outscores the wolves 35-10 that quarter. Good lord.

That was not pretty.
E-6 and I were at the game. The first half was ragged for both teams, but in the third quarter, the Celtics came out and clamped down. And it was over.
