Yikes. Not good news, friends:
Doctors today found a torn labrum and torn rotator cuff in Boof Bonser’s right shoulder, leading to more extensive repairs than what was first thought.
Bonser is out at least six months, but probably the whole season.
I thought that Bonser was our 5th best starter going into the season, maybe 6th-best. Either way, this is a big blow to the Twins' pitching depth. I wouldn't count on him for more than 75 replacement-level innings in 2010, either.

Damn
Rats. I still had hopes Boof could be a solid contributor. And he still may be, at some point, but as ubelmann observes, that point is quite a ways off.
Not to sound too cold when talking about someone getting injured, but from the Twins perspective wasn't there a decent chance he wouldn't have made the roster anyway after the Ayala signing?
I'm not as high on Bonser as some others. His potential seems to top out at serviceable 5th starter/middle reliever. Those guys come up from AAA on a yearly basis.
Bonser would have made the roster. I can't see the Twins going with a bullpen where Guerrier is their only long reliever and I don't think that Humber would have beaten out Bonser.
I've torn my labrum. I was back playing basketball in 3 weeks. But then again, that's pickup ball at the Bell Center, not major league pitching. Also, it was my left (non-dominant) arm, so it really doesn't do anything while I'm playing anyway.

I guess that explains why you never went "big time" with your basketball skills!
Among other things*.
*Including, but not limited to: lack of jump shot, dribbling skills, court vision, leaping ability...you get the idea.
Lack of jump shot?
I thought you grew up in Indiana!?!?
He's got an awesome two handed set shot.
When I lived there, I had an awesome jump shot. Then I moved, quit playing all day every day, then grew 2 feet and got uncoordinated. I'm getting it back, slowly but surely.
These time frames for injuries are rarely very clear. Will he be ready to pitch in six months or will he not be able to pick up a baseball for six months? That's about six weeks difference right there I would think.
"I once knew this guy, name-a Boof Bonzer, threw this humdinger Booferdoodle. Blew his shoulder clean off. Kid, you don't want ta throw the Booferdoodle. Oh, and get off my lawn."
+12 to 6
One wonders how long this has been a problem... did he pitch with it last year?
Hmmm...good point. If he did pitch with it last year, it may explain some of the difference between his peripherals and his ERA.
