Let's hear it for baseball. First Kubel AB of the (pre) season.
Interesting camera angle for NESN. Way off center, so tough to tell left/right location (or movement), but almost right at ground level, so it's easy to see vertical movement.
Sweet Joe Mauer, it's baseball. There goes my day tomorrow.
Tee hee, Punto's such a pop-up whore.
Here's a link to gameday, for anyone who wants it.
Delmon and Buscher with some good placement. Delmon definitely hustled to make it from first to third. Gardy will appreciate that.
DY was dead to rights there. Redmond doesn't even need spring training--he's already dinking it into RF.
The Twins are SMASHING the ball!!! (Note: not really.)
Wow, Bard took forever to get that to second base.
Boy... seeing eye bleeders through the infield... pop ups blooping in just in front of the outfielders... sending runners home that have no business scoring... God damn if it ain't the Twins.
Lots of walks so far, too. I could get used to that.
Tight zone, knuckleball, S3. :)
Masterson's got a sharp-looking delivery. Not throwing many strikes, though ...
Dustin Martin appeared where I expected the Anchorman to be...
Tolbert trying to bunt for a hit in spring training. Somebody's got his Gardy-approval talking points in order.
Just make sure to steer clear of the dreaded slug bunt.
DING DING DING
Dazzle hits the "groundball-type pitcher" button on Ayala
Heh. Whether or not people want to play the semantical game over referring to Ayala as a "sinkerballer", the data shows that he is definitely not a "groundball-type" pitcher.
I approve of the new "Youk-fu."
I can't tell you how good it feels to hear Gordo and Dazzle calling a Twins game. OMG, did I just type that out loud?
Hit 'em where they are, watch them misplay it.
1) Kevin Youkilis talking reminds me of Tim Meadow's "Lady's Man"
2) Alejandro Machado looks pretty darn smooth at 2B
3) Who's this Gosling pitching for the Twins? Not too bad (XSS)
4) On the other hand, Jones, et. al, had better throw strikes.
5) I could have sworn that was Tim Laudner in the 9th inning crowd shot behind home plate.
6) Once Brian Daubach arrived in the booth, did either of the announcers realize that there was a ballgame going on?
7) hot d@mn, there's baseball again!
Daubach had a handful of interesting things to say, but yeah, they sure up and ignored the game there. Too bad...I liked the Orsillo (?) guy pretty well.
They did tout the whole "the Twins do it year after year without any stars!" junk that always bugs me, though. Mauer, Nathan and Morneau (and perhaps Liriano) are all stars, and a couple of the starters would be if they'd done the exact same thing on higher-visibility teams. It's not like we're doing this with the cast of Major League.
Once Brian Daubach arrived in the booth, did either of the announcers realize that there was a ballgame going on?
I stopped following at some point, but NESN basically treated it as a 3-hour commercial for the Red Sox. I'm not necessarily 100% opposed to that, since spring training games shouldn't be taken too seriously (even if the Mayor's Cup is on the line), but they could have structured their off-topic conversations around the players that were coming in and out of the game. I'm not complaining, though, 10 years ago I wouldn't have been able to see anything at all.
1-0 in the chase for the Mayor's Cup!!! Suck it Red Sox "Nation"!!!
One victory down, 196 to go. That's right baby, 197-0! Heck, why not? 208-0!!!!
If they stay healthy, it's just inevitable, really. Here's to our perfect season!
