More vivid dreams. Last night it was Opening Day. I was listening to the game on the radio while I was doing a stakeout at a local park. Baker gave up three runs in the first two innings, but the Twinkies scored seven in the bottom half. The Dude abided with a two-run jack to cap off the scoring.
Also, Puckett was back with the team as a player/coach. He said he had to mostly DH because of his vision. He hit a single to right in that big inning.
I think everyone will know which of these is the Hall of Famer:
Moe Berg (1902)
Mel Ott (1909)
Jim Nettles (1947)
Larry Wolfe (1953)
Terry Steinbach (1962)
Glen Perkins (1983)
Perkins in 2033?
Now that's the audacity of hope.
I went and visited Mel Ott's grave last summer. It sits right along I-10 with a nice view of downtown New Orleans.
Trivia time: Of the Twins pitchers on the current 40-man roster, who has the most career victories?
I'm almost wondering if it's Crain. He had that one big year, if I remember right.
Eh, I was right about the year, but he's not quite as up there as I had thought.
I'll guess Joe Nathan. He was a stater at the beginning of his career, and he had I think one season with the Twins were he racked up a bunch of wins out of the bullpen
Ding, ding, ding! Nathan has 44 career victories, which is more than Slowey, Perkins, and Blackburn combined. Baker and Luis Ayala are tied for second with 28 career victories. Crain is third with 25. The Twins need to get Breslow his first career victory this season.
That would make Crain fourth, then eh?
There are six inches of snow in Washington DC, and the city and the surrounding area is effectively shut down. When I lived in Minnesota and North Dakota, a day with six inches of snow was called Monday.
or rather, Thursday, if recent memory serves
Right. Six inches couldn't shut down school. Here in StL, just the threat of snow has trigger-happy superintendents cancelling the next day.
Ha ha, good times. I always remember Fox district being the first to cancel. (Arnold area)
Yeah they're really wusses out here when it comes to snow.
March 2, 1962 Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points in a game
....and how much after the game?
On this day in 1874, at the fourth meeting of the Professional Association in Boston, the batter's box is officially adopted. Also, it is decided that the penalty for any player betting on his own team will be expulsion. Any player betting on any other team will forfeit his pay.
Seems to be a mix-up of incentives there. Betting on the other team is worse than betting on yourself?
I wonder if they meant betting on games you're not involved in at all.
I don't have any further explanation for you. That's all the source I have says. If someone knows more, I hope they will enlighten us.
Well, now that I have time to make a post or two, I would like to take this opportunity to give props to FTLT for being an excellent host and having fine taste in local bars. I very much enjoyed my time spent in Buffalo, drinking some good beer and having excellent conversation.
As for the wings, all apologies to Meat, but I have to really tip my hat to Gabriel's Gate. Those things were pretty much the perfect wing. (the big ass burger with sauteed spinach all over it was pretty excellent as well.) I was taken to Duff's (not the original one) on Friday night by the guy I was consulting for, and they were good. They're definitely trying to cater to the "hot as hell" market. Although, I had two of the suicidal wings, and, while quite hot, were not as dangerously hot as I was expecting.
Also, the hockey aspect of that city is pretty interesting. Them people are really into their Sabres like I imagine Minnesotans were before the North Stars left. (I think, though I was too young to really remember what it was like.)
Finally had a few minutes to put together a quick wrap up of Sunday's spring training game.
The money quote from bjhess:
Going through life ignorant of everyone else is no way to live.
The same Sawks fan was seemingly offended when a Twins fan said "Is that a knuckleballer?" His response? "That's WAKEFIELD!!!" As if only an idiot wouldn't know the all-timer that is Tim Wakefield.
It's not so much the team I hate, it's their fans. The whole town, really.
BTW, great pic(s), sir.
